It seems like in the past for both offense and defense, the Seahawks went for guys who were good in the running game on the assumption that they could be coached up in the pass game. This year, it’s the opposite on both sides of the ball.

Yeah

1. I am wondering if it is easier to coach up a lineman with pass blocking talent to run block than run blocking talent to pass block?

2. I am wondering if a TE with a talent for blocking or a RB with a talent for running is harder to find ( or needed ) than one as a pass catcher? ( Dissly & Walker )

3. Could more of these undiscovered secondary abilities been obscured due to the college systems they came from ?

I think this is a good change. Seattle needed to modify their strategy. Also for anyone thinking why we didn't draft these tackles with Russ here. We never had the number 9 pick and wouldn't of as it came in the trade. I like to think we would have taken Abe Lucas regardless. To often Seattle has missed under the radar talent in Washington State. Cooper Kupp stands out

Could of had the #10 pick this year and Russ if it weren't for a lousy trade for a safety...

It's still hard for me how Bryant can win the Jim Thorpe award and be a 4th round pick. He must have seen a lot of play on the other side of Sauce Gardner. My question is what is the criteria to win the Thorpe award ??

Thoughts

Thorpe award recognizes a lifetime of achievement by people who "set the living examples that influence others to strive for the highest goals and leadership of men, and who blaze the trails of accomplishments which leave behind the pathways of tradition for others to follow."

I think Bryant was a senior and a team captain. Then again , who knows what the Oklahoma sports hall of fame is looking at ( but I doubt they precog factor combine results LOL )

Basically, it's a lot easier to be a dominant player in college because smarts can compensate better for speed and athleticism than in the pros.

I understand, however Seattle pays people to know the difference. True your never going to be perfect. Simplicity speaking I wonder how they would have done just drafting players from Washington St or the Huslies. Vita Vea would never have slipped far enough. This is just a Hommer thought not serious

Seattle finally had a high round pick where all of the LT live each year in the draft. Abe was a local with Mike Leach connection (Cross to). Solari might have had a hand in the Seattle's prior draft style of lineman (large not necessarily athletic). The Seahawks missed a lot of local talent Kupp, Baker and the list goes on. I think Seattle signing Jones was a good move defensively the former Husky. King is still out there as a F/A from the same backfield and class I think this year is the first year in awhile that Seattle didn't play the long shot and picked more conservative which was overdue. Seattle has done well in UDFA and late round picks when you think of Baldwin, Kearse, Ford, Carson in the 7th. I think I heard Joe Thomas mentioned that pass blocking was harder to coach up in the NFL than run blocking. Sometimes instincts play a larger role in pass protection, as well as technique. It will be interesting to see how this year plays out with Seattle's picks and contributions. Thanks for the quotes Kenneth.
