The SSJ detail he uses gives me a chance at gaining a bit of clarity on what the intent MM has in all his moves. Nobody is overlooked. No position is lightly manned. Plus I have a new category: Taxi Squad.
I agree with you on TE, but I also wonder what Fleury is thinking about the position group. Reports from minicamp seem to suggest Ouzts working in an expanded capacity, or at least they seem to be experimenting with the idea. He worked more as a receiver as opposed to exclusively as a blocker. He worked with the TE group at least once. Maybe he will be used as a receiver in the way the 49ers used their FB as a receiver and blocker. Position versatility! Saubert was extended before Fleury. Perhaps Saubert will be fighting with Kallerup for the last spot. They will keep Russell for ST but he has TE ability. If Ouzts is also used occasionally at TE, Saubert may be in trouble given he was extended before the Fleury hire.
I agree with you about the ILB group. My personal favorite surprise to make the 53 is Chris Paul Jr. I watch more film on him in the past two months than any other player. The drawback on him coming out of college was that he was undersized. According to Dan Viens, he heard from Corbin Smith that Paul came to camp this year at 236 pounds. 15 more than what he was last year. He seems to have great instincts. - A nose for the football on running plays, and excellent understanding of zone pass defense. It shows on the film. If he takes to special teams play, and I think he will, I think the ILB on the 53 will be Jones, Thomas, Paul and either Knight or O’Connell. O’Connell hits like a truck. Violent and physical - just the way MM wants!
