I keep going back to something the head coach said, to the effect of, "The whole defense is built around Spoon." Or, "Spoon is the straw that stirs the defense." Something like that. To Mr. MacDonald, Spoon is key. And, yet, I voted for Lucas. Because I think we could replace Spoon if we had to. I think there are other DBs with his attitude, skill, and versatility. Not so sure about OT. Don't want to find out.
An OT is a very hard position to fill with an average tackle, let alone an above average tackle. Spoon is likely to be getting paid 2X what Lucas makes. He’s not 2X the player. An OT is at least as valuable as a CB. (Granted Spoon’s versatility is more than most CBs) Maybe Lucas couldn’t get more without playing out his rookie contract. But I feel part of signing a team friendly deal was Lucas’ desire to stay in Seattle. Same with D Hall. Same with E Jones. You may say they got all they could, but Coby Bryant had an offer last preseason and decided to play it out for more money. Lucas grew up in this area. Hall made it clear he didn’t want to play anywhere else. Same with E Jones. I remember him saying at a press conference while his agent was in negotiations, “I’m not going anywhere. We’re going to get this done.” People were joking about how his agent must be pulling his hair out hearing that comment. These players, who prioritize other considerations besides only the $$$, and accept a deal that is not what they might get playing out the contract and going to free agency are my favorite players. They are leaving some $$ in the cap trough for others to eat from. This makes the team stronger and allows the Seahawks to sign one or two other players where they might not otherwise have the capacity to find the money.
Abe all day, and I love spoon. But you can't tell me positional value matters here and spoon is what SSJ says, awesome football player but not necessity an elite cover guy.
I voted for Abe. Rams have upgraded their defense, which makes the offensive line more important than ever. Continuity matters more there than probably any other spot on offense or defense.
I super love Witherspoon, but I think the above factors weigh in favor of Lucas.

I think the world of Witherspoon, but I still believe that Abe Lucas is going to be a more critical part of the Hawks' success this year.

I think if you have a good or great offensive line, it makes everything on your team better.

This season I don't see how the offensive line is not the most critical piece ensure is running on all cylinders
Especially with a new rookie running back as # 1.
