So how does anyone feel about Ben Johnson after the NFCCG? That first half was dominant by the Lions vs the Niner's D, and but from some bad luck (fumble luck, particularly) could have won the game. I give the credit for the play calling to Johnson. Even the 4th down plays that didn't work were good plays just badly executed (passes dropped by usually-reliable players).

So Johnson for me has passed the "can he beat the Niners" test.

Then there is MIke MacDonald after the Ravens/KC AFCCG. The Raven's D didn't have the answers to KC's offense, even though it was poor play by Jackson that cost the Ravens a chance to win the game.

Mahomes is so clearly the best QB in the league right now, so maybe the guy who helped coach him up is the best bet, eh?

I was 12 for the Seahawks AFC championship game appearance. All I remember is hating the Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos and losing to the Raiders was the worst. I never minded the Chargers though.

As for today I will root for the Ravens and Lions. I have much more optimism about Baltimore but half expect I will be sad after both games today. If the Lions win I will be behind them in the Super Bowl regardless.

Before there were Seahawks I became a fan of two middling teams. The always awful, pre Franco Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers and the awful, but entertaining, Greg Landry led Detroit Lions. I guess I always loved an underdog. I moved to Morgantown, W. Va. (A little south of Pittsburgh) just before Harris joined the Steelers and rooted for them through 4 SB wins. Now it’s time to root for the Lions to finally get their SB win.

Did you know that Harris went over 10,000 yards in his career in a game against the Seahawks in the Kingdome? They stopped the game to announce it, and the entire stadium gave him, an opposing player, a standing ovation. I think that memory for Harris might have played into his decision to come play a few games for the Hawks after he was cut by the Steelers at the end of his career.

Landry was the best QB the Lions had until they drafted Stafford. That was my team!

To see Goff vs Jackson in the SB would be my preference, as both QBs have suffered some bad PR in recent offseasons. Mahomes is too rich and in too many TV ads and Purdy is too 'golden boy' for my taste. Also the Chiefs and their stupid war chant just ticks me off. They deserve to go through a name change just like Washington and (baseball's) Cleveland did. The Kansas City Moons, maybe?

Sorry, but I will never cheer for the whiners. Love what the Lions have done these last 2 years. Also, the more teams like KC and SF win SBs the harder it will be to catch them in that regard. I have this crazy idea that we should try to get more than one of those😉 I think on paper , it will be Ravens over SF, but I can hope for an upset. I’d be willing to do live game chats. That was fun last time. Thanks, Ken for the time you put into the Hawks for us casual couch potato fans.

Mostly Seaside Joe feels like the Daily Show of yore; facts presented with humor. But sometimes I wish he'd go full Onion with an article or two. I can just imagine Ken(neth)(?) Doing a full on article about the merits of Geoffrey Chaucer being the beginning of a new tale for the Seahawks in a language most people understand at the time, lol.

If Lions win all those teams who hired a HC will be second guessing their decision.

I sure hope the Hawks hire Johnson.

Imagine what they could do with JSN.

Hope Locket will restructure his contract.

He is just not as dynamic as Deebo

Detroit's least loved head official is officiating their game tomorrow. Let's hope we don't question the outcome due to late BS calls. If it is nothing but money driving the current NFL management, an appearance by our Lions in this super bowl will break records on viewership. In any event, I am hanging on to my preseason bet they win it all this year. Our guys are elevating their passions at the perfect time, which is expected by a coach like Campbell. I expect a second half barn-burner is in store, with kneecaps going at a premium. My concern is watching Carr take a beat-down and finds his senses are still intact. He must address this, as I believe it is why he was traded. We can bet his O-Line knows this and will not let anyone at him. I expect Johnson has designs specifically in this regard. Now it is time I begin my Rain Dance...

Completely conflicted!

Want the Lions and Ravens to win for obvious reasons.

But also want the Seahawk coaching search to wrap up ASAP - and that may require the Lions and Ravens to lose.

I have family members who have grown up in Chiefs territory so I feel justified in cheering for them. I understand why they are so hated, but I've never been sympathetic to those who hate teams only because they are successful. Though I don't really care if the Ravens win. I'll cheer for anyone in the Superb owl except the 49ers.

Given that the Seahawks beat Detroit, if Detroit beats San Francisco, the Seahawks will clearly be better than the 49ers, given that the 9ers loss would be most recent event and that the Seahawks win came first.

Can’t argue against it. It’s logic.

On that ‘logic’ we should be still watching the Seahawks play. Oh the disappointment.

1983 playoff memories... Curt Warner's rookie year, great secondary with Easley and Brown, Jacob Green rushing off the edge. Still remember Largent making a great TD catch to win it versus Miami in Dan Marino's rookie season. Easley doing stuff to receivers that are completely illegal these days. He'd tape up his forearm and basically knock people out with it. Unfortunately the Raiders overpowered our O-line in the next round and pounded Dave Kreig into having a poor game. We thought 'tomorrow the world,' and then Warner tore his knee in the 1st game of the next season. Such a shame. He was still a great back when he came back, but if you watch tape of his rookie year, you'll see some Barry Sanders type stuff. And huge cajones. He'd go to the other team's locker room before a game and tell them they'd better buckle up because he planned to kick their ass. Still dream about what could have been.

Keith Butler was one of the linebackers, went on to be the Steeler's defensive coordinator for many years; Mike Tice was a tight end that became a (head?) coach later.

Go LIons!

Ken you didn't share exactly why you think Detroit might win this game, but I will say why I think Detroit has a puncher's chance. Detroit's run game can be successful against the Niners DL, especially on the edges where Green Bay had some success last week. Gibbs has been getting better as the season has rolled along, and this could be a coming out party for him. If Detroit CAN run the ball, the P/A passing will be there for Goff also. Detroit has to score early and often--if they get behind and let the Niners control the game script, it will be very difficult for the Lions to win.

For the Lions on D, a lot hinges on how well Deebo Samuels is. If he is 'full go' the Niners on offense could dominate, but if he is not... Detroit's DL can get consistent pressure on Purdy. If he is uncomfortable, he will make mistakes, and it will be up to the Lions to take advantage.

I am hoping for a Lions/Ravens SB with the Lions somehow able to come out on top of that one, too!

At the beginning of the playoffs, I had Baltimore over SF in the Super Bowl, and I haven’t seen anything to make me change my mind.

The Ravens steamrollering of the Niners in Santa Clara was the most impressive win by any team this season. Second most impressive, though, is the Chiefs winning a January playoff game in Buffalo. Even so, Baltimore won eight games by at least 14 points, including four against playoff teams (two for the Chiefs). While I never count out Patrick Mahomes, the Ravens are the most dominant team in football. Baltimore 27-17.

Am I impressed by the Ravens eight wins by 14+ points? The Niners had nine such wins, albeit against lesser competition. Detroit has had a great season, but there’s no way a defense that allowed almost as many points as the Seahawks can handle the Niners’ skill position players in Santa Clara. This won’t be much of a game. San Francisco 34-14.

My hope is that the SB will be between the Lions and the Ravens. I don't want the Chiefs (for more reasons than one) mostly because I was glad to see the end of the Brady SB domination decade and do not want Mahomes to take us into another decade of every other AFC team being left out. The Patriots were plagued with accusations of cheating and paying off refs and the Chiefs are rapidly finding that same problem attaching itself to them. Whether there's any truth to it, it's unavoidable when they slide into the big game year after year.
