The best NFL Draft YouTube channels to follow
Kurt Warner, Kurt Benkert, Alex Rollins, Beau Allen, All_22, and so much more: Seaside Joe 1848
There are so many streaming services now but the one subscription that I could not live without is YouTube Premium. Frankly, I can’t believe anyone who watches YouTube regularly would sit through those ads, and I also don’t know why you wouldn’t watch YouTube regularly if you have the time and interest to learn more about something. Whether it’s football, movies, TV, podcasts, science, foreign countries, life…here at Seaside Joe though, it’s football.
I’ve done posts similar or maybe even exactly like this one before but I wanted to get an edition of Seaside Streams out covering some of the best draft-related YouTube channels. In Seaside Streams, I share some of the great YouTube videos I’ve seen recently. This time, I’m more focusing on channels and creators than specific videos.
For really great NFL written content, subscribe to Seaside Joe for FREE or upgrade to premium for only $5 per month or $55 per year:
These are some of the best NFL channels right now, including a few that aren’t necessarily focus on the draft alone I just couldn’t leave them out. If you want to add any to my queue and for the other Seasiders, let me know in the comments!
For a draft Substack, I’ve been recommending Sam Teets for a long time and continue to do so. For videos, check these out:
All_22_Films
Not a draft channel per se, but I wanted to bump the amazing All-22 channel because I will have a special post coming with him answering YOUR questions about Mike Macdonald’s defense with the Baltimore Ravens and what to expect in 2024+ with the Seahawks. If you just want a better understanding of the game of football, subscribe to All_22 on YouTube and watch the videos, I’m sure much of it will apply to Seattle.
Alex Rollins
Rollins has become the “appointment viewing” of NFL YouTube, his videos are the best football explainers being made today and that includes ESPN and NFL Network. They’re always about 10 minutes, he does a really great job of simplifying what it is that players are expected to do on a given play, he’s humble that he doesn’t always know what players are expected to do (as shown in Saturday’s Drake Maye film), and the graphics are top notch.
The 33rd Team
The linked video isn’t a draft video but it is relevant to Seaside Joe because one-third of it is about Devon Witherspoon. What I like about The 33rd Team’s channel is that they use former NFL players and coaches to explain football to fans. This is the channel where I first got keyed in on Witherspoon as Seattle’s pick because of Ronde Barber’s unadulterated admiration for the Illinois corner being the best in the class. They also have Greg Cosell, who is really good:
WR-Steve Smith’s Cut to It
Steve Smith might be even better on YouTube than he was on the field and he was a great NFL player. He’s really smart, but really humble. The best WR explainer videos that I know about and the perfect channel to follow if you’re hoping that the Seahawks will draft a receiver. A lot of the videos are actually for less heralded prospects who might be available on day two and day three.
DL-Beau Allen on Green Light
I love Beau Allen, and he’s the only former NFL player doing defensive line videos that I know of. I wrote about why T’Vondre Sweat could be an interesting selection for the Seahawks in Friday’s post.
QB-Pocket Presence with Kurt Benkert
Kurt Benkert went undrafted out of Virginia in 2018, signed with the Falcons, stayed with Atlanta until 2021, joined the Packers, backed up Aaron Rodgers for a year, spent a little of time with the 49ers in 2022. He’s been very active on Twitter since the start (I think) and now he’s able to make QB breakdowns on YouTube that I’ve only just discovered and think are pretty good. Whether or not a player had a good NFL career doesn’t matter to me that much, Benkert was in the same rooms as Matt Ryan, Rodgers, and the Jimmy Garoppolo/Trey Lance/Brock Purdy/Kyle Shanahan 49ers. That’s invaluable information and hours spent studying film with real NFL coaches.
QB-Chase Daniel
I get really annoyed by Chase Daniel’s thumbnails but he comes off very fair in his analysis. The last thing I want to watch is a breakdown with a person who has a clear bias to make the player come off better or worse than he should and Daniel is fair, although I think he needs to get a new thumbnail creator.
QB-Colt McCoy for Underdog Fantasy
This used to be Josh McCown’s spot before he became an NFL QB coach and his next project might be Maye; McCown coached Maye in high school and now he’s the Vikings QB coach. McCoy also does a great job explaining the QB position. Here he is able to use his NFL background to get Trevor Lawrence in for an Xs and Os explanation:
QB-Kurt Warner
I was 16 when I added Kurt Warner to my fantasy team in 1999. He threw three touchdowns in each of his first three starts this season but there was still a ton of skepticism regarding his ability to keep it up. Then in his fourth start, he threw five touchdowns against the 49ers. Now he’s making accessible videos on YouTube that average about 15-20k views; I can’t believe that a Hall of Fame QB gets less attention than some Xs and Os guys who never played the game. Not that there’s anything wrong with not playing the game but…KURT WARNER IS HERE TOO! You can learn the game from KURT WARNER. And he’s really good at it, he’s not an egomaniac, he’s fair, I love his videos. I’ve even been able to e-mail him to ask questions and get a response.
He also debuted a new website today.
Ryder McConville
Just seems like a nice young man. I support nice young people trying to become content creators who put in the work.
Brett Kollmann
I think we all know about Brett Kollmann at this point. I understand why he’s kind of pivoted to a “lifestyle football Xs and Os” channel or something, he wants to stand out in a crowded field of like-minded YouTubers who essentially copied the entire format that he started, but I do not love the intros or outros. Still, good information to consume before and after the draft.
Get a gift subscription for a Seahawks fan, you’ll be doing a solid for three people at once: Them, You, and Seaside Joe!
The O-Line Committee
Not a draft channel, but a must-watch podcast and random Xs and Os explainers for offensive line that I can’t recommend enough.
The GM Shuffle with Michael Lombardi
My favorite bi-weekly NFL podcast. Michael Lombardi for some reason gets a lot of hate, maybe that’s why I like him so much; he doesn’t care what people think! Regardless of how little respect you might have for the teams he was a GM of, Lombardi’s been around the NFL for about four decades and I really like his insights. Don’t agree with everything he says—you shouldn’t agree 100% with anyone!—but at least I know he believes what he says.
Jomboy Media Football
Don’t really know much about Jomboy, but the videos are good.
That Franchise Guy for mocks
Mock drafts are divisive, but if you’re going to watch anyone’s mock drafts then I kind of like That Franchise Guy for it. I don’t agree with everything he says—the moves seem a little off for me in this example actually—but you can just watch them on 1.75x speed and it’ll be over soon!
This isn’t a draft channel video but I had to share it
This is amazing and I’m sure many of you remember this game.
Channel: Bootleg Football. Its Brett Kollmann alongside E.J. Snyder (who is absolutely brilliant), highly highly recommended, great draft content
Maybe you could pin this article or in some way make it accessible to everyone.
I gave you a red heart to encourage the above and express my thanks for these sources.
Mich. State is currently beating North Carolina. I can't help but root for Isso. Is that his name? I admire him staying at Mich. State all these years, and his success is just below what Wooden did at UCLA. Just phenomenal coaching.
