John Schneider said, on his weekly show, that he wished the draft was a lot faster, all at once. To me that indicates he KNOWS who he wants to take. I am entertained by all the comments and banter because all these sports shows and commentators just to fill in and make content for their jobs to be relevant. The many weeks leading up to the draft, imho, is far too long a period of time. But then again, I do find it entertaining ha ha
Yeah, it felt like he was talking about there was all this confusion and noise about the top prospects a few weeks ago and now people are coming back to reality. I sincerely believe they would have loved a QB-QB-QB-QB top four.
Joe - you've jumped the shark. Sorry - I don't read drivel, and I don't read drivel about drivel. You got off twitter and found a worse drug. STOP! Just watch tape, listen to confirmed reports from first-hand sources and go on from there.
I disagree. Kenneth’s never claimed to be an expert evaluator of draft talent or the X and O s of football. But I believe Kenneth is an expert on is what the Seahawks have done in the past eg the kind of player they have drafted and what the media narratives about the Seahawks are and why they might be wrong. This article is about media narratives and I for one find it interesting.
Fair point. This article came across as the "he said, she said" nonsense (a.k.a. drivel) we see too much of. There was not one quote from a Manning or Stroud. This, at best is 50-word "can you believe it" paragraph. This publication, the Athletic, and SI usually stay away from this crud. Hence the "Happy Days" reference.
I am most impressed by the historical honesty, balanced evaluation, and journalistic integrity that Joe brings. He admits errors and relishes predictions come true. Come to think of it - that kind of sounds like a an expert evaluator, doesn't it?
I find it crazy / infuriating / ridiculous that people get caught up in BS like this... to your point what Quinn thinks or says doesn’t matter, and to your point, what he said wasn’t even a diss.
I really wish people who engage is this sort of faux outrage would direct their time and energy towards things that actually matter.
i ignore most of this stuff and what people say on twitter etc. because it’s meaningless. What does bother me is the increase in violent sentiment and actions that we are seeing. Especially when it’s driven by meaningless and/or misrepresented info.
I can’t help but wonder how much better we would all be if we all just paid less attention this this stuff, treated others with respect, and focused our energy on being positive.
Draft Day "You get where I'm going here, guys? We need to find out what Bo Callahan's "something" is. Then figure out if it matters or not. All right? Figure out if it's something we can live with."
Sonny the Genius Seattle the Goat. LOL.
The point here is that all teams do their due dilligence beyond what any analyst does. So much of what you hear on the Podcasts, NFL, Espn and the list is endless, is simply this; trying to avoid what we used to call in Radio "Dead Air" The talking points are to fill space so the NFL can continue to advertise for another two weeks and milk the "Golden Goose" called the NFL Draft. (Great article Joe). Does all this expert white noise influence other teams? It depends on how savvy their front office is. (another great article Joe). So what about tendacies. Seattle blew those out of the water in last years draft. They didn't find a hot deal to trade down and stuck with their pics in logical places and needs. The one caveat; Geno. Still, remember that the QB draft last year was a weak class.
So now here we are, 2023. Seattle has filled their visits quota and much attention is paid to that because of a top 5 pick. Not so much at 27. JS/PC will use the influence and poker bluff wherever they can.
Sonny Weaver Jr. : They have that kid GM down in Jacksonville. What's his name?
Marx : Jeff Carson.
O'Reilly : Rookie.
Sonny Weaver Jr. : [getting an idea] Right, Jeff Carson.
Chess, an ever important GM skill prior to and during the draft. Schneider on his podcast this week spoke about drafting for need verses best player. Not in favor of drafting for need was my take.
Here's the good news. This years strengths in the Draft happen to be real Seattle needs. WR and RB are a little weak but there's still options in the first 5 picks. I think options may exist through 5th round to improve the roster at those postions.
Hybrid cars are the hot topic these days. I think Seattle posts a hybrid draft for 2023. There's are going to be some that fall in love with Seattle's choices, and criticisms of who they took or when they took him in other parts of their draft. Seattle is looking to be competitive with the 49ers starting this year and has their game plan and draft options to acheive exactly that. I believe the Seahawks are in a zone once again in their draft machine, with the capital to take advantage of it. I think Seattle adds midround talent that makes a big difference in the next two years. They'll make the impactful first round picks (and or trades) that work for their chessboard. We can all guess, but the final outcome is where the real fun begins
Sonny Weaver Jr. : [giving him the nonverbal "one minute" gesture] Anthony, I need five minutes. All right? Five minutes, and then you can fire me.
Let the games begin...it's contender or pretender all next week.
As always, thank you for your support and for allowing me into your homes (emails) every single day. It is TRULY appreciated! There is no such thing as a "small" show of support, even forwarding a single Seaside Joe newsletter to a single Seahawks fan in the world is considering sharing. And I am grateful every time you do that. It's impossible to grow as fast as people who use Twitter but I think this place will ALWAYS be better for it that I don't engage with that website or any other social media sites anymore. However, if you choose to share SJ elsewhere on the Internet, it could do a lot for us and we'd love to keep hitting these tremendous milestones that set us apart from the rest of the people who do what I do. To go from 115 subscribers when we transitioned over to this host in March 2022 to over 2,030 subscribers today is SO remarkable! To grow that much again, we will make a significant and lasting impact on the Seahawks universe! Thank you so much!
Speaking of rumors, according to Rob Staton, "Richard Sherman interviewed Geno Smith on his podcast today. Right at the end, Sherman casually drops out that Pete Carroll, “is going back to the scheme.”"
I went and found the comment at 20:04. "...I hear Pete's going back to the scheme, thank god...." and seemingly a "yea" and a nod of the head from Geno. So it may be true. We need to ask Pete AGAIN because I have heard people put the question to Pete during THIS offseason and he has confirmed they were "staying with the 3-4".
So this is news if it is true, and it changes a lot. Maybe Joe will comment or write a piece on this.
Don't feel that I would be the best person to write that article. I heard that part of the podcast too and I can only speak on it as much as you can probably, which is to say that it is interesting and I will keep an eye out for more.
How about the implications on certain positions? For instance a 4-3 requires a team have at least 3 LBers. We just make the minimum of 3 LBers if we count Rattigan or something like that. We wouldn't have as great a need for DT's though. The big winner would seem to be Darryl Taylor who seemed OK in the run game as long as there were LBers backing him up.
Draft wise, it puts pressure on us to get a LBer in a poor LBer year. At least that's how I see it.
Well, jeez, if Joe won't let me skomment then I don't know WHAT I will do.
I would rather have Stroud over Richardson if the Seahawks take a QB at 5 because he has proven to be good at football whereas Richards is a WIP, but I would rather have Carter over either, or just about any of the other D-prosects mentioned for the top 10 of the draft. Or Bijan.
What I definitely want people to avoid is taking this article as my personal condemnation or endorsement of literally any prospect in the draft. Only a condemnation of the media and the Internet and trying to set a rational and realistic "true north" for Seahawks fans because there is so much noise and nonsense out there these days.
My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek. And it (should) almost "go without saying" on this site re: the "noise and nonsense". That is why we are HERE.
This all does remind me of 2021. The difference is we don’t know what is going to happen with picks 2-5.
All I know is that 1) Young thinks he is going 1 or at worst 2.
2) Houston really hoped that Young would not go 1, but are coming increasingly convinced that is not going to happen.
3) Arizona has a for sale sign on their pick
And 4) After lucking out by being very bad at the very best time so as to no brain Manning and Luck is a tough spot.
What I think is Kenneth is right that Indianapolis and Houston are the sources of these stories because they benefit. The first rule for figuring out an anonymous source is to ask who benefits.
Houston which is normally a very tight organization leaked because they want teams to call them instead of Arizona. In a negotiation the first caller is the weaker position. By the way Kenneth this is why I think the price of your mock trade up to 2 is unlikely - Houston wants QB prices.
I think Indianapolis leaked because they are not taking Stroud and worried that they will be criticized for the decision, and again this just the type of stuff that Irsay would say to justify taking the Mayo QB who a couple of weeks was dropping out of the first round.
He didn't diss CJ, I would be flabbergasted if he dissed any prospect in the draft. Most analysts are going to be pro-prospects with only hints of 'what worries me'
I agree: BRADY QUINN is entitled to whatever opinion he has. Also, BRADY QUINN's comments will not change anyone's draft picks except for PFF mock draft #1567934865.
I just don’t get the concept of being butthurt over anything a draft “analyst” says. It’s just all about a game. So often we forget that.
Discussion of draft stuff on Twitter is like middle school. All drama.
It’s all hugely entertaining. In a train wreck kind of way.

QB4 is practically the Holy Grail.

I still love you. I mean, you're pretty new around here, but I have always loved you, Scott B.
Geez but I’m glad I’m off Twitter.

Just so long as Brady Quinn doesn't dis Bijan Robinson...
He didn't diss CJ, I would be flabbergasted if he dissed any prospect in the draft. Most analysts are going to be pro-prospects with only hints of 'what worries me'
"It was just a f_**ing OSU QB" says Brady Quinn moments before the Internet shoots him in the head.
Brady Quinn - worse than Hitler.
Haha. I know what you're doing, Bob!
