-Something else Bell noted on Thursday is that Murphy and Christian Haynes were with the starters against the Titans in joint practice. That's a big piece of news for Haynes if it holds up into next week. Seahawks starting interior could end up as Laken-Connor-Haynes.
Honestly Joe, I feel like this was coming. Bradford got worked over yesterday and allowed one sack I know of from press coverage somewhere. Lineman’s true colors come out with the pads on. It’s Haynes to lose at this point. With the tape this guy has I was hoping this would happen.
... "Jalen Carter." to finish the headline sentence.
So many people lost their minds that we didn't take him over 'Spoon, and I may eat crow on this prediction, but I think 'Spoon and Murphy are a better combo than Carter and basically anyone left on the board in the '24 draft. And frankly I wouldn't trade Murphy for Carter straight up right now. Jalen Carter racked up his stats in 4 games (mostly one) last year. Sure, Murphy has yet to play a real one. But damn, he looks the part of someone whose jersey will be filling 1/3rd of the home stadium in a few years.
What strikes me about Murphy’s Seahawks highlights are that they look exactly like his college highlights. This tells us that his skill set holds up in the NFL and that he can execute against NFL players.
He drops his knee and anchors a double team? Check out. He bull rushes a center into a QB’s lap? Check. He moves laterally at the snap and knifes through the line to the QB? Check. They try to double team him, and he completely side-steps one of blockers? Check. He disengages in a split second to bury the RB for a TFL? Check.
And all this is before he’s honed his craft as a professional player. His floor is above many players’ ceilings.
Does he remind me of Aaron Donald? Not really. He’s going to build his own path.
He seems to have a good grasp of how the offense intends to block him in the run game either from pre-snap alignments or quickly diagnosing the o-line plan after the snap. That level of awareness and speed to formulate and execute a plan, for a rookie especially, is impressive.
When I picture Aaron Donald, he’d just rip people out of his way. I see Murphy as taking a quick side step and finding a low resistance path. His strategy centers more on quickness and finesse than brute, upper body strength. But that’s in summer, 2024. We get to see him develop skills in real time.
I also read G Bell’s comments with interest… a player I am excited for for 24 is Woolen who Bell lists as one of the dogs. The kid is stepping it up. The a stronger DL the secondary is going to feast and Wollen is one of the guys who could really take advantage of that.
At least stop eating, driving, and talking to your passenger at the same time while commenting. Get those priorities straight man! Comment HAS to come 1st!
I am disappointed to have not heard anything about Nino and Prez and our guys vs. them at the joint practices. Maybe they didn't practice, maybe everybody ignored each other. But, I would be curious to hear whether there was at least any greetings and smiles or trash talk and mean mugs.
I'm still on Twitter (and refuse to call it X -or tweets "posts"), because everything breaks there first. And Facebook is 90% follow suggestions in my feed, Reddit turns even my aquarium subs into political memes, and unless something really sweeps the nation I'm not excited to ever sign up for another social media account. All this to say that every time I think I'll just bow out of all social media; I'll check Twitter, and I see clips of 'Spoon getting a pick 6 in joint practice and bringing Jamal Adams the ball! 😂
And my biggest takeaway was that Jamal's former teammates certainly do seem to like him a lot more than the average Seahawk fan.
Big Murph is good. Bad Byron kinda rings because there is a bbq rub call Bad Byron's Butt Rub (for Boston Butt, aka pork shoulder) down here. We can see what the pllayers say and go with that. My comment shorthand will prob just end up at Murph.
I'm thinking he'll earn a nickname. Or not, and that will be okay because nobody called Aaron Donald "The Terminator" that I ever heard. I had to google to see if he had one and that was apparently it. Heck, Micheal Jordan stood alone without being called "Air" or anything. If you're good enough, your name alone will carry the weight.
MacDonald was excited to come to Seattle before Murphy got onboard. Seaside Joe had Murph going by the 8th pick, so he had us focused elsewhere. Totally unexpected and it changed everything Mack was hoping for. I suspect Woolen's play last year was meant to get himself traded away from Pete and Hurtt. I fully expect we shall see him work to establish himself now as a franchise player. JS spent the season reading the tea leaves in the lockerroom after games and came to the conclusion we had to make the changes. We are watching inspired play by all our Guys for damn good reasons. Mack seems to be keeping them grounded: neither over nor under confident. Playing at a winning level rules eveything. There will be no quotas of plays and the Men will respect the reasons why.
Murphy is everything I hoped he would be when we drafted him. Or before we drafted him, when I was afraid he would go to someone in our division. Now that we know how good he looks, I'm surprised we did not try to move up to the ten spot or so, to ensure we got him. As he is exactly what this team needed, and it broke our hearts that Carter was too something to be worth the 5th overall pick, even though we all knew he might play like the best player on the field at times.
But, the very best thing about Murphy is that he grew up wanting to be a Seahawk. Carter didn't want to go anywhere but Philly, so he dropped into their lap, and I neither wish Carter nor Philly ill, but I am glad it worked out the way it did.
As a Husky fan, I saw Murph well before the draft. I was looking to see Sweat, but figured out pretty quickly that Murphy was a more complete DT. Gave the Huskies fits....
Hopefully Murphy’s teammates will let us know what his nickname will be. It’s not our call IMHO.
His talent is beyond dispute. When he faces elite OL opponents, we’ll also see how he responds. I’m not worried about that at all, but let’s see how he solves those inevitable puzzles and frustrations. He clearly knows how to football and the Hawks DL is replete with mentors.
Love the video breakdowns! Exciting to get more insight into defensive line techniques and what makes Byron special - can’t wait to see this kid live week 1!!
Right now it appears the Hawks are searching for who is going to step up at RG- I don't believe they are actually pleased or happy with any of them, but we shall see. Murphy looks like a true DOG- and yes probably could be rated as a should have been a top five pick. That is just awesome for The Hawks since they don't have the best record drafting front inside players. MM is having to truly temper is sound bites and not get to overjoyed with what it appears he has. GO HAWKS
Murphy's the real deal, and that's pretty exciting. Pressure up the middle changes EVERTHING!
I'll go out on a limb and say the RG competition is all but over. Haynes will not give it back to Bradford. He played well in the Chargers game, and by all accounts was very good in the Titans practices. He's a WAY better puller than Bradford, and better pass protector. He's also mean, which I personally like in an o-lineman.
I want to really watch Lumea and Jarrell in the actual game against the Titans. I noticed them a few times in the Chargers game and they looked like they held up fine, albeit against #3's. If Jarrell is already looking like a competent RG, that speaks volumes given he's coming from a small school. Curtis looked awful there last week, so why not give those reps to Jarrell.
Question: Who is the backup center until Williams is ready to go? Who was playing center with the 2's the past two practices?

Haven't heard much about Laken so far. I hope that's a no gnus is good gnus situation. (I'm curious to know if anyone gets that reference)
I agree. But I think the positive sign is nobody else seems to be trying out at left guard unless I missed something.
Gary Gnu with the gnews!
Bingo!

He has Donald's short area quicks and flexibility. Anchors much better than you think he should. Good places to start.

The All_22 breakdown is great.

I shouldn't try to comment from my phone lol... "With a stronger DL....Woolen ... geez.

Adams is second team linebacker from the sounds of it.
Ahhhh…the position he refused to take with Seattle.
:O
Check FG for the trash talk fest between Spoon + Adams
I caught yesterday's report this morning. I guess I have Current Generation's Impatience (CGI).

Kind of incredible that that many people had film breakdowns on Byron Murphy II. Also what are we calling him re nickname? BM2?
BM2 just sounds too poopy (bowel movement, #2). I don't think that's gonna work.
I think I've heard him referred to as Murph and Big Murph in some of the pre-draft footage.
LoL! BM2......LMFAO.
"Whoo does BM2 worrk forrr!?!" -Austin Powers
Yeah, BM2 probably isn't a great nickname for anyone you like.
This is a safe space for brainstorming nicknames, right? Asking for a friend . . .
😂I question if safe spaces exist at ALL and especially on the internet, but SSJ comment sections probably come as close as anything.
Big Murph makes sense. B-Murph, maybe? Probably getting too cute.

Legion of 12s is an awesome channel cool to see you mention it. Really informative and not unnecessarily optimistic

I thought Legion of 12s video was great. Very informative. Loved the highlight of the dead leg technique!
