Hustle stops? So now we're just making things up to make sure players have something they're "good" at? I'm pretty sure Darrell Taylor was too three in twisty bobs and you'd be hard pressed to replace THAT kind of production through the draft.

"A" for Effort but just needed to guess a " hole" lot better than he did.

"One of these days, Barton...bang zoom... you're going to the moon!"

Colts just signed Dalton to a 1 year contract. I doubt the Colts see another aging QB as the answer. The move in my mind is more consistent with the Colts taking a QB 4, who is not ready to start at 4. I believe the Ravens did something similar a few years back. QBs may be goin in the top four but will Anderson be there? Also if we were to take Carter would we still play a 3/4.

What would worry me is if Pete had said I am confident that after a year experience the defensive front seventh are going to be much improved in 23 and we are going to focus on resigning our players.

Hustle stops! When do we see the numbers for "Lazy Goes"? Surely, Barton had a few of those.

None of those stats mean much of anything on their own, but the fact that Dre Greenlaw shows up on almost every list probably means something. San Fran's defense shouldn't be able to exist.

Not for nothing, but the PFF score for Corbin is 12, Matty (love his film breakdowns but he keeps saying stuff like this) 2.5, and Seahawk Nerd is a Twitter average 5.5

(A reminder that the PFF score for NFL analysts is the Probably Fibbing Fraudster scale from a formula that I own and will not share, and also a reminder Ken is at .92 today having improved somewhat in the last 24 hours. A score of less than 1 is the gold standard for the scale.).

This is one transaction I won’t lose sleep over.

Barton seems like a nice guy who puts out total effort. But he’s just a step too slow.

Still cant get over how much Barton looks like the Hank Barton character :)

I remember when he was new in camp and there was a video snippet of him doing a drill. Followed by an All Pro LB and the speed and footwork gap were very notable. I knew there he probably was not him. However, to his credit it seemed like he improved his game in the second half of this season and maybe a victim to a weak middle DL allowing the guards to maul him too much. But I also saw some ugly things - for awhile there it seemed he never met a blocker he didnt want to fully engage with instead of shedding and making a tackle. Also he often overplayed misdirection and was out of position for it.

Simply because his replacement hasnt been named doesnt mean you cant have someone pack up their stuff. Glad he's getting paid in DC, just don't think hes worth 3.5M/apy in Seattle.

The main issue with Barton is that he lacked the strength and technique to take on a 2nd level guard square and shed left or right. He’d simply get pushed back and tied up. But that was what was expected of him for the initial scheme. Later, they had him attack left or right, and he was capable of that. Either way, he wasn’t strong against the run.

Expect JS to look for bigger, stronger LBs who are still nimble enough to cover.

Your final comment summed it up best, “the market determines Cody Barton’s value.” He got a 1-year prove it deal for modest money. And the team that knew him best, didn’t offer that. He’s already had four years to prove it in Seattle. No hand-wringing from me.

There is no way "hustle stop" is a real thing.

That’s a lot of pearl-clutching over Cody Barton.

Smith may be making an appeal from authority (in this, where a former high school football coach is such an authority on NFL LBs that he can beat the market). There’s some debate over whether that’s an actual fallacy because there are times when it is reasonable. E.g., while you would ignore my view on what it takes to produce a daily newsletter, you should sit at Seaside’s feet and listen.

I needed to read that. Everyone on FG was posting "bye" GIFs and acting like he was the worst linebacker in the history of the NFL and I thought was a serviceable player. And seeing as Brooks isn't coming back in time for game one, that left us with (checks notes) Nick Bellore and Jon Rhattigan. And I don't put a lot of faith in rookies and know we don't (until yesterday) make big splashes in free agency. And at least he knew the system. Addition by subtraction only works when there's a new addition. And I couldn't (frankly still can't) see where it's coming from. Unless Bobby's market is soft, that seems unlikely and it's a very short-term answer anyway, feel good story aside.
