I just remember the catch that looked nearly impossible to make against the bucs that got a tough to get 3rd down at the time and have liked him as a keeper since

It was right in front of where we were so got to see it up closer

Can you help me think through the "must spend cash" dynamics I just learned of. Apparently teams have a 3-yr total of actual cash (not cap) they must devote, and Seattle is 2nd (and the Rams are first) in cash they must spend this year -- $268m for Seattle, $280m for the Rams. They're explaining one way to do this is to restructure contracts and pay big bonuses now. Per them, if Seattle were to take advantage of all their options it would free up over $100m add'l cap space. Crazy that the two best teams in the NFL also have the wherewithal to create the so much add'l cap space -- in fact, they may be forced to create it.

Am I getting this right? With this kind of obligation, what do you think the strategy would be and how would you spend this kind of cash? Seems like extending Spoon and JSN with the guaranteed portion paid upfront in cash might be a big use of cash (and a powerful negotiating ploy), maybe also could get Walker down to $10m APY if all the guaranteed were paid upfront? I don't know is a new concept for me.

Help!

With many thanks to Chuck Turtleman and SJ team members on their response, I should have clarified my draft compensation question. My bad.

My question should have stated "From last year's free agency off season losses, are the Seahawks eligible for any draft compensation this year?

There’s no harm in re-signing Dareke Young. What scares me is a world where JS re-signs Young while passing on Bryant and Jobe and Mafe and Shaheed and Walker and Woolen.

I love the guys like Young and Cody White. But I'm sure they are happy to be on a team for as long as possible. Vet min. is all we can offer. I root for them to get more opportunities. Maybe they can move up.

Special teams were critical to the Hawks success and the players are inexpensive. Upgrade by all means, but don’t assume that the parts are interchangeable. Just because you *might* find someone as useful as Young doesn’t mean that you *will.*

Resign Derek and see what he can do with more pass attempts !!

Headline : The NFL salary cap will skyrocket next season to record $301.2 million per club. This continues the trend of the salary cap going up over the last two seasons. The 2025 the NFL salary cap was set at $279.2 million. In 2024, the cap was at $255.4 million.

Agree. This dude when healthy gives flashes that are intriguing. And he's still relatively young and relatively cheap.

Special teams punt and kick coverage/ returner should have their own star/ captain. Derek Young can be that on a good price.

Now, is it too early to ask about any potential 2026 compensatory draft picks the Seahawks may have coming?

https://www.seasidejoe.com/p/seahawks-2026-comp-picks-draft-formula Unfortunately, comp picks get added to the next year's draft. So any comp picks from this year's FA class will be added to the 2027 draft. With only 4 picks, I expect some trade downs. But if we stick and pick, there will be good reason to believe that JS thinks the players taken were too good to risk passing up.

I’m not sure this one should count.

ahh, you don't know Dareke. To some of us here Special Teams mean a lot, plus Mr. Young showed out well in pre-season. Special Teams have conributed quite a lot to the Seahawks success this season. There is hope that Dareke Young will make the 53 in the future.

Playing another year for a Super Bowl champion is good padding on your resume over starting with an outfit just beginning to rebuild. Success will get you rode hard and put into the stables wet.

There was a movie who's title comes into play here...Forever Young.

Thanks for taking all the time to get us a daily post. We would have been alright if you had taken a break but thanks for all your hard work to keep it going.

Dareke (Johnny) on the spot in more ways than one. Location, location, location. Sign him.

He'll probably be riding that roster bubble again this preseason, but it won't take much guaranteed money to resign him and find out if anyone new can come in and take his spot. You gotta think Jay Harbaugh is making a case to keep him around.
