DK Metcalf signs the exact contract extension that Seaside Joe predicted he would sign
Seaside Bonus: 3 years, $72 million
The Seattle Seahawks signed DK Metcalf to a new contract on Thursday, which comes as no surprise to Seaside Joe. This was a move that should have always been expected to happen during training camp, it is completely in line with how Pete Carroll has operated for 13 years in Seattle, and the Seahawks had no better players to reward with guaranteed money than DK Metcalf.

In fact, on Tuesday, I predicted that Metcalf would probably sign a three-year, $72 million contract this week. Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million extension on Thursday.

From March 25’s article about why the Seahawks should extend Metcalf, to June 7th’s explanation of why it was in Metcalf’s best interest to re-sign, to the Do’s and Dont’s of a new DK contract, to the framework of a new contract in the wake of Terry McLaurin’s deal in Washington, to July 19th’s post of when to expect a DK Metcalf contract, Seaside Joe has been prepared for this moment for months.
Even these very paragraphs are being written before the official news of a new DK contract. I just know that it’s going to happen. Because rarely do the Seahawks manage to draft players as special as DK Metcalf and as good as it feels to finally strike gold on a pick, it is just as painful to see them leave over a contract dispute.

Metcalf’s contract is exactly in line with other receivers of his caliber in 2022. Any years beyond three years would’ve been for show only, so the important thing is that the Seahawks have their best draft pick of the past seven years locked in through 2025.
The other important thing: Everyone should have seen this coming from a mile away.
