Per a McGinn scout quote on seahawksdraftblog.com:

ā€œI’m really concerned about his speed,ā€ said a third scout. ā€œThe (4.52) is not real good nowadays, and I don’t think he plays that fast. He plays like 4.6 to me. He’s a really good player. I just don’t see that explosiveness.ā€

Sure. You're able to eyeball 8/100s of a second. That doesn't sound like cocksure BS at all... šŸ™„

I would take Nolan Smith or Michael Mayer (he“s still there) at No. 20, but im not Pete nor John and I still like this selection. There“s only one word that scares me in the case of Jaxon....hamstring.....If we don“t hear that word, he can open the field for everyone and make even TE“s better....I like name Jaxon by the way (and want to say that I like Jaxson too after Day 3 :-) )

As a physiotherapist i still can't understand how there are so many hamstring issues in professional sports. If somebody could contact Jaxon i can give him some Tips...Just saying :D

So what was the biggest surprise pick? Campbell in the first round was mine. I thought we could get him much later.

Jahmyr Gibbs for me

JSN may end up being very expensive. He increases Geno’s chance to make his bonus by more than little. Guess that is a good problem.

Seahawks instantly have the best Receiver Corps in the League. Try to Cover DK, Tyler, Jaxon, Dareke, Will, Noah, Colby and Ken. I Love this.

AND maybe the best starting secondary.

Also, while SS Joe is good enough to not need to dedicate so much energy towards Rob Slaton, I still get it. The sheer arrogance of that guy. Completely whiffing on his projections is forgivable, but the way he dismissed possibilities that ended up actually coming into play is not.

Did he actually whiff? Three QBs went in the top 4 and the Seahawks passed on Carter. The only thing he got wrong was the league not sharing his view of Levis.

Tonight went well. I suspect Seattle came into tonight with Will Anderson and perhaps a particular QB as their top targets, but when the board fell the way it did, they pivoted to BPA at two premier (expensive) positions. Well done.

Two three tight ends were cool at times last year, but this guys going to put up twice the numbers of any two of them put together. Geno is going to love this guy, just like Stroud did/does even more than Wilson and Olave.

Mid-Atlantic Murph congratulates the Hawks' pick of Jaxon Smith Njigba...he is also very thankful to celebrate Jalen Carter going to his Philly.

Yea, I am pleased. Has anyone heard confirmation that Witherspoon will be playing NCB? Because JSN will be playing the slot, I assume. I'm sure everyone is fired up. 8 more picks. Three tomorrow. Fun times.

PC said they plan on him moving around, when asked about lefot or right side. It would have been the ideal time to also mention nickel then, but he did not so it seems (at least for now) that he is an outside corner. Reminds Pete of Troy Palamalu in terms of make-up. 'Spoon is a special one...

Both Chris Olave and Garret Wilson have said that amongst the three of them, JSN was the best. Damn. If Olave and Wilson are your FLOOR, what the hell is your ceiling?? He could minimum be the next Tyler Lockett for the next decade -- or some day Cooper Kupp is his best comp who ran a high 4.5 almost 4.6 but is an absolute stud WR. That’s JSN.

I’m also realizing Seattle is filling the most expensive positions via the draft: both tackles last year, and a star CB; now, a CB and a WR who were #1 in the draft.

This is already a successful draft with two potential rookies of the year on either side of the ball. Wow.

They clearly drafted best player available over need. And they got two really good players.

We really needed a slot- we got a HELL of a slot. You'll see. The legendary DB/D coach vouches for our 1st pick and I personally trust the heck out of his DB eval...a very unique talent.

I hope they have a better plan for the rest of the draft. While Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba are talented players who will contribute right away, it seemed as if JS and PC were thrown off their plan and weren't prepared for the way the players came off the board. They got no help in the trenches and that's where Pete says games are won and lost. Not feeling confident in this draft and with their lack of salary cap space what free agents can they bring in? Seems like the defense will not be improved from last year

Can I ask you please, no sarcasm here at all- seriously.

How on earth can you arrive at that conclusion? I've seen their media hit, heard their words and the enthusiasm for each and in NO WAY did this even enter my mind. This said I could be totally incorrect, but I would love to know what PC/JS did / said that makes you think they did anything but get their guys?

If Witherspoon was truly going to be their guy, then why re-sign Michael Jackson? Or why didn't they release Tre Brown and add cap space? Coby Bryant obviously isn't going anywhere so what's the plan? I read about how John Schneider had lessons learned from previous drafts where selecting for need wasn't as successful as selecting best available. With both Anderson and Richardson both gone, Witherspoon was left to be their best available, more than Jalen Carter, more than Tyree Wilson, players who would be at positions of need. And I read that when they were on the clock at 5 they were furiously working the phones trying to find a trade partner. They didn't find one since nobody wanted Blue Jean Boy Levis so they were stuck and broke tradition at both 5 AND 20. I also think for as long as it took them to submit the card to Goodell at 20, they again were trying to find a trade partner and again got stuck. I could be all wrong, very much wrong, but that's how it felt. Couldn't Wagner and Diggs and DreMont Jones be leaders and give guidance to Carter? He could very well be better and more disruptive than Aaron Donald with Pete's coaching abilities but for whatever reason it was no go on Carter. So yeah, Witherspoon was best available to PC/JS and perhaps not the "real guy" they wanted, which were picked at both #3 and #4.

I think the Seahawks feel they can field a defense right now that is better than 2022, and I assume that Al Woods and Poona Ford are waiting for a phone call to re-sign; not saying that they're going to be huge upgrades, but don't think there were any great solutions to the D-line in this draft. Obviously Carter could be an exception and passing on him says a lot of the evaluation, right or wrong.

The draft isn’t over yet either. There are still intriguing DL’s out there esp 5 techs, a few of whom visited Seattle. And if Ade is still sitting there at 37, he’s one of my favorite edge/ends in the draft exactly bc he’s an edge/end. I’m so hoping they get him!!

And you also mentioned the possibility of Bruce Irvin coming back in a different post so you've nailed that. And they must be expecting Alton Robinson and Tyreke Smith to be contributors as well. I'm from Syracuse so I'm cheering hard for Big A Robinson and hope he plays well like his rookie season. I have read that Pete may be bringing the 4-3 defense back. Have you heard anything about this?

Chris Snape's avatar

Surprised, not because we selected him, because I never thought he would be there at twenty. When we were on the clock I felt tightend. I am happier it is Njigba as he is likely a high contributor from game one. He is a chain mover, as such it gives us that missing link. Look for Geno's numbers to soar, and DK and Tyler will be more appreciated by non Seahawks fans. Two picks two young well spoken technicians of there craft.

As a side note it will be interesting to see if the lions get roasted for taking a runnimgback and a linebacker with their two first round picks. The two positions that are considered by many so called experts to be a dime a dozen. That could seem like reality until your team doesn't have very good players at those positions.

It wouldn't take a brain surgeon to guess an interior defensive lineman will come tomorrow. Also don't give away AL Wood's parking place just yet.
