Loved that Q Nelson video. Baldy is so fun to geek out with.

Ray Roberts has been asked about moving between RG and LG a number of times. As I recall, he says that some guys (“dudes”) can do it and some can’t. It’s much easier than moving between the OT positions because guards play mostly north-south either way whereas tackles face out differently (switching means having to play the new position in the opposite way that you’ve mastered). The challenge for a guard is pulling; the extent depends on how much the offense uses a pulling guard. I took this to mean that if a guard is reasonably athletic and the offense doesn’t call for him to pull much, switching isn’t that difficult a proposition.

Jones is one of the many players I'm interested in seeing this year with the new coaches and scheme. I think there is talent on both sides of the ball, and it wouldn't surprise me if the new regime can get a lot more out of it than the last one. If Jones has a impactful season it will be telling.

I continue to root for Dereck Hall. His story was my favorite draft story ever, and I would love nothing better than for that man to turn into a football monster. He has the size and athleticism to do it, and I sure hope he does. Can someone please coach him up and allow that man to be a roaring success? Thank you in advance.

I'm not expecting Darrell Taylor to be a success this year, but if he would just play the way Mike Mac wants his players to play, he would be. He just has to figure out if he's willing to sell out for the team. Is he willing to do the dirty work? I hope so. Realized potential is heart warming. Not expecting it from him, but hoping for it.

FWIW, Mike Dugar says that injuries forced Jones out of position to OLB for half the season, and Paul Moyer says that Jones’ skills weren’t always utilized.

His role seemed to change around the time Chenna got hurt, if my memory is right. So maybe we were asking him to play a position that, at his DE weight, was exceedingly difficult. If they are going to ask him to be more of an edge, I expect he'll show up to camp a lot lighter.

Great article...and thanks for addressing my questions/comments!! I'm hoping this change works out well. Fingers crossed. I've never been more unsure about an upcoming season, it makes me both nervous and intrigued. Taking one of our highest paid players and changing his position isn't helping my nerves - but I think it could work. I guess we'll see. Keep up the good work - 1898 and counting...that's pretty cool, man.

Don’t think of it as a position change think of it as a change in gap responsibility.

Hummm...? "One hour and five habits" eh?

A no brainer there. Obviously you're learning to coach a nun's basketball team.

I feel like I made a mistake you caught and understanding what it is must be going over my head. I have a full time job outside of this so being able to only do seaside Joe is what I mean.

AI? More subscribers so the Joe can afford an AI which can then write the articles and give him more spare time?
