I was instantly a Shaun Alexander fan as soon as we drafted him. It is the only jersey I have ever bought, but it was one without sewn on letters, so they have peeled here and there. It is the one I was wearing in the pic I took with my SSJ fan kit giveaway items.
The reason I was an instant fan of his is that my name is Shaun, and all throught my school days there were a ton of other Seans and Shawns, but very few "U" spellings like ours. The fact that turned out to be an MVP and dominant player was icing on the cake.
- What a lot of interesting things we all have! One day we'll have to have a Seaside Auction and see who gets the highest bid.
- I'll be including more Seahawks sports cards in future giveaways. They are mostly only $1-$2, if not less, even if it's the best player. I can't believe how many cards I collected as a kid. Of course, like most people, they're all sitting in a box in the closet or garage and the only thing they collect now is dust. But I did once find an old Magic the gathering card in there and sold it for $200. I have held onto this Michael Jordan for 30 years because when I was a kid it was worth something like $150. I bet it's worth $15 now. That's cards!
I mostly collected X-Men cards though, which probably will not relate to most people unless you're between the ages of like 35-45, I guess?
Question for the crowd: What kind of cards do you own the most of? Baseball, football, comic book? Or any favorite card possessions?
Omg X-Men cards! The recent X-Men 97 show made me rewatch the old 90s cartoon in full and fall back Iove with the X-Men.
Tbf Cards were never big here in the UK again, but maybe other brits will remember ProStarz of which i had hundreds as a kid (you know, the other football)
Collected football cards ages ago. I have to find one set as one year I worked hard to get the whole year but then you couldn’t buy boxes. Had a lot of over sized 70s NBA ones as well. All long gone.
I was at a gas station when I was a kid and they had a promotional deal going on. If you filled your tank you could get these Seahawks water glasses. This was in the 80's and I still have them. I fill them with whiskey now though....
So jealous of all of you. I have a ton of Seahawk t-shirts and hats…a plethora of both. And some great game day memories from the 70s, 80s and 2000s. But no serious swag.
I did get a tour through the Kingdome locker room just before it officially opened. But none of the player name plaques were up. It hadn’t been used even once. I thought it luxurious but I my only exposure to football locker rooms prior to that was small eastern WA high schools. So…no comparison.
I was re-watching the 2005 NFC Championship game against the Panthers, the win that sent the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl. When I go back to the older games, it's a nice reminder of some of the unsung heroes from the past. The thing that stood out the most was a guy who wasn't playing. Ken Hamlin. He was on the sideline cheering on Marquand Manuel, who had a great game.
A Hamlin jersey was on my shopping list when he got so badly injured in that incident outside the bar. I was so excited about him that year. He was like Cam, before we knew about Cam. And then he was gone in an instant. I don't know where that guy is 20 years later that struck him in the head from behind, but I hope you've gotten everything you deserved in life.
I fucking love this! The original article was fun and the comments great, but I'd missed so much!
I keep saying the actual reason I pay a subscription for SSJ is that he's built one of the single best online communities out there. This is yet further proof of that!
All I can contribute are a discount RW3 jersey (platinum variant) and a discount rave green logo t-shirt. I like a bit of merch but I'm financially (and geographically) limited. I'll live my dreams via you all, love all you seasiders (even those who believe Geno is a Top10 QB :p)
Millard, Nash, & Edwin Bailey all lived in Timberline #3 close by Sahalee. With Mike Tice and Keith Butler living very close by. Those are the guys I sat in with (kinda) since I was doing work at a house across the street and a repair at Millard's house. Joe Nash had a very cool/weird sense of Humor, he is who I got the Jersey from. It is huge and has Millard's name on it and he stated he wore in a game. I never questioned him. I'm assuming he was telling the truth!

So we share a name
The first name that came to me, other than Alexander, was Shaun Ellis. I also knew a guy in college name Sean Ellis.

did you live in woodinville? We have those too
I grew up in Auburn...but they probably did this at multiple gas stations.
I have a large framed Zorn my office dated Feb 3 2014 that reads CHAMPS
SUPER BOWL KLVIII
SEAHAWKS 43
BRONCOS 8
SEATTLE DOMINATES DENVER
FOR FIRST SUPER BOWL TITTLE
With a picture of Russ holding up the SB TROPHY, with a smiling Pete right behind!
When my sons were 10 and 8, Joe had a Blue 10 Zorn jersey and Alex wore a white Largent. 10 to 80 = 7.
Watched Chuck's video: I laughed my ass off when Largent took time to show off his Mike Harden card and the story behind it! Chef's kiss!
Note the prescient commentator in the video, "Steve will want to put that over his mantle, right on the fireplace!"
