Geno Smith: 'I know I can be a successful offensive coordinator right now'
Free agency, value, Shane Waldron, future: There's a lot to unpack here 2/14/2023
Geno Smith made an interesting comment on Tuesday, one good enough that I felt worth sharing in a bonus article after this morning’s deeper look at edge rushing prospect Tyree Wilson. Geno tweeted that he knows he can be a successful offensive coordinator…right now…on any level.
There’s some depth here worth examining.
1 - What does this say about Shane Waldron?
Geno may not intend to be disrespecting to Waldron, but I feel like there’s a clear message here: “I don’t need an offensive coordinator.”
What else could the message be? If anything, he’s saying that an offensive coordinator is getting in his way. Even if Geno clarified by saying, “I’ve learned so much from Waldron and I know how to run everything he runs,” that still implies that Waldron serves no further purpose to Geno.
