Grayson McCall 2022 Draft Updates: Coastal Carolina vs Citadel, 9/2
As you should know, if you didn’t already, Grayson McCall is my favorite college quarterback and my pick to be this year’s “Zach Wilson” who shoots up draft boards out of nowhere. I think he’ll be a Heisman top-three finish and that nobody will be more loved by season’s end than McCall.
I’m almost all alone on this opinion as of right now. How is McCall going to do this season? Coastal Carolina opened the year against Citadel on Thursday night:
McCall finished 16-of-19 for 262 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, rushing twice for 24 yards.
Remember: McCall is an accomplished option quarterback, so a big part of his game is his handling of the football on pitches and zone-read option plays. It’s not something that works for every NFL team, but I do think that there’s a place for McCall in the right NFL offense.
And his arm is not that bad. Here he is arcing a deep one for his receiver in the first quarter:
McCall was deadly in the intermediate/middle of the field, including on this second quarter touchdown pass. He’s really good in the 10-20 yard range passing:
I did note that McCall needs to put extra mustard on his deep throws, typically lifting his feet / jumping on those passes, as he did here for another long touchdown throw:
I would say a strong first game for McCall and another interesting week for head coach Jamey Chadwell, who is also someone I expect to be in the NFL one day.
