The Seahawks lead the NFL in total rushing yards through 2 games of the preseason with 413, or 206.5 per game. Next highest is the Ravens with 328 yards. I know it's only preseason, but still. It's better than the alternative.
On the other hand, we ran for 313 yards after 2 preseason games last year, and that turned out to be a predictor of nothing. I think this year is different, but we'll have to wait and see if it's real.
Really enjoyed the KC game. My only niggle is that Byron Murphy was near invisible when he was on the field. I don't remember even hearing his name. I was watching the d-line play, and he was getting stoned pretty consistently. I thought he was primed to have a break-out year, but we'll have to see. Maybe in the vanilla defense MacDonald wasn't planning on showing how he is going to use him when real games begin. I guess we'll see.
Really hoping the run game carries into the season. The blocking schemes they were using against KC were infinitely more complex than anything Grubb was dialing up last year. Really good TE and FB usage.
FWIW, Anthony Bradford earned himself a 92.9 overall grade from PFF for the KC game. Highest grade on the OL just ahead of Sundell’s 92.4. Kudos to him; it also looks like he will earn the starting RG job.
I’m a Haynes guy, so it’s pretty disappointing seeing him settle into the backup LG role. He’ll probably also stay in the swing OG role he was in last year due to his versatility.
Kind of a big let down for me, but let’s get the best 5 on the field. Right now that guy for RG is pretty obviously Anthony Bradford.
I also find the whole Haynes deal perplexing. There is obviously some way (or ways) that Haynes is not hitting the mark. Don't know what that is, but it is somewhat surprising to me after watching his college tape. Looked like he could move, and he was mean. I figured that was a good combination.
I don't think we'd get away with anything other than 2 #1's, or 1 #1 plus a really good player. Then of course we'd need to pay the man, and roll the dice his good health continues.
I have mixed feelings on acquiring him, but wouldn't be upset if we do manage to get him. It would certainly make this years defense even more formidable.
I would offer this in a second. And I don’t care what the salary implications might be; Schneider gets paid the big bucks to deal with such stuff. When you have a capable-but-not-Tier 1 QB, sooner or later you have to take a risk.
It has happened to me watching and cheering for my kids at soccer matches, plays, recitals, etc. Also, at sports events or competitive video game matches with my friends online (yes, I'm a gamer), but the most frequent times I have done this for/ with friends, and I'm sure it's similar for most of y'all, is when they bring a new member to the family through marriage, adoption, or birth. I love a big hug, cheer, toast and a beer to celebrate life's joys.
Hey, it goes along with the subtitle of the article today, too!
We're a long way from there yet, but if this season progresses to the point that Kubiak is a hot HC candidate, the only logical thing to do is back a truck up to his house and start scooping money onto his front lawn. And then stop by every one of his assistant coaches and give them a taste.
Stability matters. Staying with the same system means personnel decisions are easier, means players can grow in their roles, means we can win more games -- absent injuries, of course.
And this: Kubiak is a mad scientist, just like our head coach. He's NEVER had a chance to take his offense to where a second, stable year with a good (and improving) team might take it. To add wrinkles and nuance. To make it even harder to defend.
Stability matters.
But, like I said. We're a long way from there yet.
The good news is...we might be able to see there from here. (Sorry...I think I done slaughtered that figure of speech good.)
We'll see how we feel about it in week 15 or so. If we're still worried about losing KK to a head coaching gig, it'll be a good problem to have. And for him, the difference between giving the Seahawks one year vs two could be settling for an opportunity vs having his choice of gigs. Team success and the development of Darnold and Milroe will probably weigh heavily on this decisions as well. These are things I'm happy to worry about.
As with Ben Johnson in Detroit, I trust Kubiak is giving us 2 years. One to prove Success and another to allow JS to find our next genius. And who knows? Maybe a shot at a 3-peat will keep him with us for a 3rd year. You know, Coach: it's called Teamwork. Get us passed Opening Day with our confidence still riding high and build from there.
And I have a sense he's not an inspirational interview for a h/c position, if his media presence is any indication. Pretty dry. He's an X and O's guy, who loves working with players. I also think we get 2+ years from him before anyone tries him at h/c.
Very good Catch! He can get one-and-done Wild Money or a Life worth living here, probably well remunerated at that. Paul Allen and Family have shown they can not just navigate those waters, but lead out. Go talk to Rob't Saleh who is back as DC in Frisco.
Inspiring owners and inspiring young football players are two entirely different things. Hopefully he doesn't do much for the former, but has the golden touch at the latter.
What I liked best about that game was watching Sundell and Zabel execute reach-and-seal blocks like they did. Zabel in particular keeps driving his feet until the whistle, which is a great thing in an OL. Bradford doesn't really have the feet for great seal blocks, but what he did do is keep his feet moving and hunt for more bodies after his initial block.
Very interested in seeing a complete #1 defense on the field for a full game.
I loved seeing Zabel give a final left arm shove to his first opponent as he handed him off to the left tackle, setting the guy off balance to then get flattened. The kid will not concede defeat, whirling around at lightning speed to re-engage an end-around. No care for embarrassment. Our shakier rookies must find that tremendously inspiring.
Yeah I read all 70+ comments front to back. Was really curious to read what the 12's gleaned from such an intriguing beat-down (yeah it's just preseason, but those are still the Chiefs, and that's Spags opposite Kubiak). It's one of the great things about Seaside Joe, there are alot of intelligent posters here and you get alot of perspectives, things you didn't notice or connections that didn't occur to you. And the broad spectrum of optimism and pessimism. Thought it was an awesome idea to get people's reaction like you did!
Wow!! Seeing three QBs perform — all so promising! Watching an O line that seemed to know what it was doing! Seeing blocking from everybody on the field! But the most impressive thing was how excited the teammates were for every single play… It looks like Mike has built a team with internal cohesion and passion for each other. I didn’t think he could do that. So, excellent!!
Little update: Uchenna Nwosu passed a physical today. He should be back at practice before this preseason is over.
Could bump Ivy off the roster.
Hmmm. Could we be using Special Teams to keep guys and force Harbaugh to make sense of it?
If we only kept 5 receivers, maybe there's room for both?
Noice !

Again, another Good Catch: Seeing what you are not seeing. Your Nielsens are rising in my book, Mr. Chris!

Our Lads are becoming Men.

Maybe he's just being a respectful young man, not wanting to be accused of Elder Abuse...
LOL
I am confused by it all, really. But these guys know what they are doing, so if he’s not the guy and Bradford is, let’s roll with it.
Oh yeah, they should never take my advice. If Klint thinks Bradford is the guy, that's good enough for me.
So I read things with Trey Hendrickson have come to an impasse in Cincy and now the team is open to trade offers -- young player plus draft pick.
Arguably Hendrickson although very expensive and 30 yrs old, would be the last piece of the puzzle in our new "Legion of KaBoom" defense.
Cincy's biggest issues are OL and safety apparently.
Coby Bryant and our 2026 #2?
Or, would we keep Coby and perhaps give up next year's #1? Which with Hendrickson may end up being pick #32...
Once unleashed, maybe this crew can get us through 2 years? Negate crucial needs for next year's Draft?
I don't think we'd get away with anything other than 2 #1's, or 1 #1 plus a really good player. Then of course we'd need to pay the man, and roll the dice his good health continues.

Seems MacDonald has built a growing resolve we have the talent In-House. Going outside would erode that.
Make that Jerrick Reed instead of Cobyand I would agree.
“Coby Bryant and our 2026 #2?”

I agree. The whole point of having an “affordable” QB is to be able to invest elsewhere.
And Coby played at UC so there’s a bit of “sexiness” in the trade for Bengals fans

Cheers, toast and a beer to you all!
My man! That's awesome energy...good karma
I’ll drink to that!

I mean, I’m happy for people, but I don’t know when the last time was that I jumped up and down screaming out of joy for something that a friend did.
In my opinion this is one reason sports are so great for society and especially for men.
Props for the subtitle. Woe, pros, and Mil-roes… Love it!

I could feel the folks here cheering. Must really be Something if you're a Player.
