When I watched Macdonald’s press conference, the first thing that came to mind is Jones is out of shape. I don’t think he would have phrased things the way he did if the problem was an injury. And that’s pretty disappointing. He was just re-signed a couple of months ago.
I'm just waiting for the ozempic stories to hit pro sports. I'm already suspicious of Josh Simmons on the Chiefs. He showed up having lost about 40 lbs of fat. That's not normal, especially for offensive tackles.
This time last year, talk in some circles was, "Let's start the rookie in game four" or whatever. Now, far as I can tell, nobody's even talking about his progress.
I suppose I could spin that to be a good thing, but...
There has to be another piece with Jones. We may never know what it is, but there has to be more. He filled in admirably, played hurt the last game he had to start.
This is the first time I've heard Horton's groin injury mentioned. He and Arroyo would be special if they could be on the field. Maybe that's not how it's going to go. We took a flyer on Mills, too. They can't all turn out.
I do wonder how many '27 draft choices we can actually use. I mean, there's some turnover, but as has been pointed out here, making cuts this season means separating from players the staff and fans have an investment in, and not just camp bodies.
I don't imagine we will hear anything of Milroe, nor should we really pay much attention, until after the preseason begins. If he actually plays well in the preseason (not the "every time he throws a pass or runs, let's all freak out positively" way people react to QBs) great. If he doesn't, there's probably nothing much to see yet.
I'm hoping the patience Seattle is showing with these injuries is because they have the luxury of very good "next-man-up", ergo depth. So much better to be patient and have a guy fully recovered.
Hugely disappointed with the Josh Jones news though, he was more than passable as a back-up last year and I was hoping he'd be there again this year. But yeah, the team has expectations and that discipline is very important
I’m still very hopeful on Horton. He was so impressive when I was at the VMAC last year, I immediately felt he was ahead of MVS and MVS offered no special teams play. I remain hopeful he will be ready and prove to be the 2nd round pick I thought he played like in camp last year. Arroyo will likely be ready for Camp, as will Barner. This tight end room with a TE OC should explode this year! I get the injury history, but my take on injuries is sometimes you’re just unlucky and it has nothing to do with being injury prone.
As another complement (backhanded) for Darnold, The Athletic rated the supporting offensive group for QBs in the NFC yesterday. They rated Seattle’s supporting cast as 10th best (out of 13) Only three teams have a worse offensive player group than the Seahawks. Darnold must be really damn good to do what he did. According to Derrik Klassen, “The Seahawks only lost ground from last year, they didn’t gain anyone.” — Danno on The Athletic Derrik Klassen. ‘He didn’t lose any ground from last year. He’s still as dumb as they come.’
Robert Mayes had the Hawks 8th best because - ick Brian Fleury compared to Kubiak. Am I the only one who feels MM thinks he found a true gem in Fleury? Before the Fleury interview, everyone was hinting the New OC was coming from within, including management. Do they not see that Fleury is what MM wants? It’s the same thing with Geno and Darnold all over again. In my mind, at the time of the Darnold hire, there was no question the Seahawks preferred him to Geno. While I don’t think it’s as extreme with Fleury, I feel the Seahawks don’t believe this is a step backwards, and could potentially be a step forwards.
Too many of these analysts think in only terms of roster changes and don’t consider that a team may have rising (or declining) talents. Re the Seattle offense, four of the five OL starters should better this year and one (Zabel) should be a lot better. I’d say we can look for improved production at QB, TE (Arroyo and especially Barner), and least one WR (Shaheed). Admittedly, RB is unknown and I’ll be thrilled if Kupp can repeat last year’s numbers (as #3, though, not #2).
Super stupid cliché is the best ability is availability. You can't do much on the field if you're sitting in the hot tub. Love ya, man. Write if you find work.
Josh Jones getting the "I'm disappointed" angle from MM. That seems to be the last thing MM says before you get cut.
This is when you want the coach to be saying, "Damn, Josh is blowing us away with how he's prepared." That's not this.

Unrelated but a related tangent.

The name we keep not hearing? Milroe.

It is to say nothing of Horton's football ability to say that he is always injured.

Maybe this is also a Robbie Ouzts break our year as well

Maybe we could start a new cliche with the same idea:
"We needed him to have availability...to no avail."
