It's funny, because him "quitting" at halftime in a close Citrus Bowl was one reason I didn't want us to draft him. I now wonder if there might have been a more innocent reason such as getting dinged up or something.
The raw material with this kid is grade A. I assume John, Mike and the defensive coaches signed off on what's between the ears, so theoretically all he needs is time on task and grade A instruction. I remember a comment Mike made about Knight during training camp......something about 'finding new and interesting ways to screw things up'. It's what rookies do at first. Sounds like they're going to start him a nickel CB, which is no joke. There's a lot to handle playing inside and that close to the line. But, if they've nailed this pick, this defense will be a problem.
I love the selection of the "Irmo: be there" subheading! It fits the song lyrics perfectly. It took me a second to remember it was by who else, but Michael McDonald! James Ingram notwithstanding, great connection, Ken! Idk how you come up with these, but BRA-VO!
I'm jacked for this kid. I already bought a #3 Emmanwori Hawks jersey, I truly believe he will be great. I love defense, I love hard hitters, and I love an athletic freak who can disrupt offenses and become one more guy O-lines need to worry about. It just makes the rest of the D open up.
Already excited to see how this season plays out, with Big Cat mentoring Murphy, Lawrence coming in, and Emmanwori flying around. I don't want to make the Chancellor comparisons, but a Kam-ish player would be just fine by me.
High confidence on the jersey buy. Cool long names are good. Who needs a “Smith” jersey - I actually saw one last year, had a brain cramp, couldn’t remember who the “Smith” on the team was. Then I saw a guy with a Houshmandzadeh jersey. Props.
He’s only 21 . . . wow. He sure looked big in high school. I’m ready to stop thinking about the offense . . . whatever . . . because this defense is going to be awesomely fun to watch.
You should go through all the positions...they are in top 40 lists. J Love our highest non QB rated player. Next Leonard will I am. But also no shock to see no linemen, cross gets a nod on pass blocking. But we have four linebackers in top 40...mafe hall Jones and knight.
It amazes me the narrative on Emmanwori as a raw athletic freak. When a combine results are so good, people need to find faults elsewhere, see Shemar Stewart. You can't be a perfect prospect. But Emmanwori has had an amazing college career, how many true Freshman start in the SEC, start for all 3 years and is All American? His college stats were better than Buddha Baker, who we all think was great college player during his time at Montlake. Most college players have flaws and need to work to improve. Watching Malaki Starks this year, thought he regressed and gave up a lot of big plays, not the athlete that Emmanwori is, and played on a much better team, yet he got drafted in the first by Baltimore. It will be interesting to track their careers to see if the Raven's front office, who can do no wrong, made a mistake on passing on this kid. When JS trades up, he's been right most of the time.
I kind of think the Seahawks might take a similar approach with Emmanwori as they do with Milroe. Don’t rush the process and you might end up with a diamond. Shove them into a starting role too soon and you’ll likely regret it.
Seems like Emm should be more game-ready than Milroe (easier position(s), and the D runs more situational rotations). But I also think about how MM handled Tyrese - seemed like some tough love and limited praise first half of season while he got a few opportunities and some bench time to think about things. Got his head right in a tough D scheme. Then MM cut him loose. Might be a similar plan, always contingent on performance.
Exactly what I think. Tyrese's development and MM's approach to it is what I think we'll see here with Emmanwori. He'll make mistakes, Mike will let him, and then expect not to see the same mistake again. But there are lots of mistakes you can make on the field. Misread motions, having your eyes in the wrong place, not knowing where your keys are, wrong gap progressions, poor angles, bad tackling form, etc etc. It took time with Tyrese and it will likely take time with this young man.
Another good comparison is Earl Thomas. Not physically a comparison, but his year 1 play was spotty. He played a lot, and made a bunch of mistakes. Pete was on him all the time. Trial by fire, which Mike doesn't need to do with Nick if Love and Bryant stay healthy. Kam was the same. Minimal impact in year 1.

Nicely written, and convincing. The book is unfinished. I look forward to reading it.

Did you they use this to decide to get rid of DK and Tyler?
Wow. Looks good for the Hawks future Offense. Thanks Scott.

I'm a little worried about "Isaiah Simmons Syndrome" but then again, he didn't have Mike MacDonald in his corner...

Coal + pressure = diamond
