Irvin: Seahawks won't win Super Bowl either
Bitter about DeMarcus Lawrence calling out the Cowboys, Michael Irvin decided to throw the entire Seahawks organization under the bus
The DeMarcus Lawrence-Micah Parsons beef from last week was funny, but not necessarily all that important as it pertains to the Seattle Seahawks. However, this super condescending reaction video posted by former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin (that I may have been the only Seahawks fan to watch) was too good not to share.
What a former player says about the Seahawks and their latest big defensive free agent signing also doesn’t matter, but I think you will get a kick out of Irvin’s final sign-off because how often is it that anyone’s really talking about Seattle’s Super Bowl chances lately?
Especially when it’s this rude.
Here is how Irvin ended his video responding to Lawrence telling the media last week that “Dallas is my home…but I know for sure I’m not going to win a Super Bowl there.”:
“I hope whatever we doing here in this little mess blows over in a minute, and you realize that Seattle is Seattle, but it is not Dallas and you do NOT want to be excommunicated from the family. We are going to let you go on over there and play with the Seahawks, and we’ll let you come back in after you don’t win a ring over there either, okay? You didn’t win a ring over here, but we going to let you back in…if you just stop talking right now. But if you go any farther, we’re going to excommunicate you out, buddy. So stop it. Stop it.”
As I was saying, very condescending, and Irvin let it get to the point where he was so bitter about Lawrence calling out the Cowboys for consistently falling short of the Super Bowl that he decided to throw the Seahawks under the bus too.
I understand that Lawrence is probably bitter that the Cowboys chose to pay other players over him, but it also seems like certain Cowboys of past and present are just as bitter that he’s telling the truth about their lack of success in the last 30 years.
I agree with DeMarcus Lawrence about at least one thing
Seaside Joe tries to judge players objectively, not just because they happened to be signed or drafted by the Seahawks, but Lawrence calling out Parsons’ social media habits — which many have also translated to mean the weekly podcast he does for Bleacher Report — is an issue that does probably have a bigger impact on teams today than players/coaches usually admit.
And Michael Irvin unintentionally lets it slip that he’s been hearing for awhile that a lot of defensive players in Dallas have a sour relationship with Parsons over his off-field activities. Even these extracurriculars aren’t illegal or wrong or immoral, and yeah maybe it really is not a big deal, why is it that the best player on the Cowboys doesn’t have a better relationship with his teammates?
Here’s some of what Irvin let out:
“I think this (online fight) frees me because I’ve heard before that there’s something in the locker room with some of the guys on defense and Micah Parsons. I would have never said anything about it because I thought there would have been a violation, but now that it’s out in the open we should address it.
Micah (told Lawrence) ‘I think you’re jealous’. I absolutely think there was some of that in there from some of the things I’ve heard…
I’m saddened that I heard it was an issue with the guys on defense and Micah. I heard it was an issue and I didn’t want to believe it, but now I do.”
We’re specifically talking about a Cowboys problem, not the Seahawks, and I understand that this feels a little off-topic. But the reason it’s not is that all 32 teams are probably dealing with some level of off-field distractions in the modern world because of social media, brand deals, commercials, and podcasts in which players can decide that it’s not enough to be in the NFL…he also has to make sure to set himself up for a $100 million career outside of football.
In this case, there was so much tension between Lawrence and Parsons that it immediately spilled over into the media as soon as Lawrence was officially out of Dallas. Irvin is throwing more fuel on the fire by telling us that Lawrence is far from the only one, implying that the other guys he’s referring to are still on the Cowboys.
We didn’t see any such thing from Seahawks when DK Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers — quite the opposite actually:
But just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future or that it couldn’t be happening behind the scenes.
I know, the 2013 era Super Bowl Seahawks famously had a lot of beef between teammates behind the scenes and Seattle dominated their opponents anyway. But the Parsons-Lawrence fued is a reminder that sometimes the best players in the NFL (including ones like Parsons, who slippd out of the top-10 in the 2021 draft probably because of character concerns) are quietly annoying a lot of the people they work with on a day to day basis.
Consequently, this argument has made me slightly more optimistic about the Lawrence signing, because even if Parsons is the better player right now, maybe Lawrence will improve next season if Seattle’s defensive roster and coaching staff is harmonious than his previous one.
Seahawks defensive line
DE DeMarcus Lawrence
DT Jarran Reed
DT Byron Murphy
DE Leonard Williams
OLB Boye Mafe
OLB Derick Hall
OLB Uchenna Nwosu (as far as we know)
This unit has the makings of the best front-seven that the Seahawks have had in years — three major additions in the last 18 months include Williams, Murphy, and Lawrence — and it won’t take 15 sacks for Lawrence to be a succesful signing at $14 million per year, which is outside of the top-20 for edge rushers.
Playing great run defense, dropping into coverage on occasion, pressuring the quarterback…and liking his teammates, that plus eight sacks would be a huge upgrade for the Seahawks.
Maybe Michael Irvin doesn’t think DeMarcus Lawrence can win a Super Bowl with the Seahawks. But Irvin is still living in 1995, so it’s a surprise that he even knew how to check the Internet…let alone post on it.

I've come around on the Lawrence signing -- a little risky given the injury/age but there have been highly productive edge rushers well into their '30s, and Lawrence was unquestionably a top 10 edge for several years. And started 2024 like a house on fire, on a pace for 13 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 21 QB hits. With his reputation as a locker room leader, perhaps he also teaches Mafe and Hall a thing or two. I've come around on this one after having been negative given age/injury history.
Dallas is its own circus and it's hilarious to read their ex-players so worked up, thanks for sharing with us hicks tucked away in the Pacific Northwest
Mickey, Mickey, we all know that the Cowboys will never even sniff a SB until the owner Jerry Jones fires the GM Jerry Jones, the talent evaluator Jerry Jones and the head coach Jerrry Jones. You should live so long!
