Great article with all the stuff to make it so! JSN was a great draft pick, now if JS (his decisions) and could get his scouts and evaluators to do the same for the O-line this team would be growing with leaps and bounds- They must develop a run game to take the next step - and as I continue to bark about, next to the QB the O-line is the most important unit on the offense!
We may have 3 top WRs if Lockett comes back on a reduced contract. He makes clutch catches. All he does is get open and catches everything. Largent wasn’t fast either but he was always open.
This year they will find out who stays and who goes.
They have time to find a couple capable guards, a good RB2 ( Charbs, ain't it ) and a speed receiver/ kick returner.
I wouldn't have Cross on the potential blue chip category. He has not played even like an average LT lately. I don't know whether that's adaptation to different protection schemes or what, but he's been rolled over too many times lately. Hopefully he bounces back.
It was great to see Abe on Sunday. He looked pretty good for the first game back, and there were a few times where he was blocking 10 yards down field on running plays, continuing to push his man out of the picture. Just great stuff. He should only improve. Olu had a pretty reasonable day as well. One fastball snap, and a few pass plays where he allowed inside pressure, but nothing egregious.
Abe Lucas has the talent to be on that list, not sure that Cross does. This game vs SF was a total disaster for him, and while one game does not a season/career make, he's struggling to make it to the "average starting LT" tier.
I see JSN as a new Tyler Lockett- When TL came to the team , his deal was he had really good speed. It is Obvious he doesn't have the real good speed anymore=- BUT , he still knows how to get open- JSN is learning , or so it appears from being with good WR's ( Not saying Mertcalf is teaching anybody anything) That would not be my opinion! But the WR room is Obviously a good place
It’s early. And I did not like him much his rookie season, but SJ you said by position, so I’m going to put out there for consideration, Coby Bryant at FS. He’s no ET but I watch him and he’s making tackles (Mike M posted he didn’t like him going for fumble vs Jennings but I’ve read a couple different writers talk about how great the defense was to get Whiners to punt in large part for the great stop by Bryant). I see Coby keeping his starting position with Jenkins back. I could be wrong but I’ve been impressed how much Coby is getting to the ball.
Michael Bumpus says that even though JSN will never get much separation, he compensated with great hands and is a dangerous YAC guy because of an excellent grasp of the angles he can take once he has the ball.
YES on JSN! He is exactly the vision of why the Hawks took him at 20. Game/season is on the line. And in back to back weeks he makes the big catch, he makes the right cut to get open, he's catching on the sideline, in the middle, on the screen. But I really like the middle of the field work. And a strong connection with the QB1.
"The Seahawks have more players who are at least in the “limbo” phase of potentially being on track to become top-10 at their position than they have had in a long, long time: Devon Witherspoon, Boye Mafe, Charles Cross, Kenneth Walker, Derick Hall, and maybe Byron Murphy for starters."
This is exactly why (and I get the otherside), but in my opinion the Seahawks should not punt on this team. You got a ton of pieces already in place that have the opportunity to grow.
The whole offseason, the reason you bring in Mike Mac, pay Leo Williams, invest in the D-line is to find out if you can pair an average to maybe even above average defense with an already good offense.
On offense, what can your QB1 be with a competent offensive line?
This to me is why I have been in support of JS and keep Geno around. Geno is easily a top 10 QB already, what will he look like with a good defense? Or a competent offensive line?
If he has a good defense, does he feel the need to play Hero ball? Do we even care with a good defense if he does?
Keep building around Geno, you got 3-5 years to win a Super Bowl with him.
Can't wait for the Hawks game this Sunday. Most Hawks games since Geno took over I have been excited to see what he can do. This is the first in awhile that I am excited to see what the defesne can do with Kyler, the run game, the tight end, and a WR1. Can Mike Mac's D make it three in a row against the NFC West?
Aside from the rough two games after coming back from injury I will openly say Riq is that guy you didn't mention. He was playing all pro level before the set back stat wise. Still growing as a corner, still ridiculously cheap and technically just his 4th season playing CB. I know people have been all obsessed with that 2 game bad stretch but as a fan I don't see any player with more potential. Following the BAD game he was straight on social media calling himself out as well.
Also love the front office admitting something didn't work and moving on quick at LB. Excited to see Jones help Knight and that tandem grow together. Jones is the extension I want to see before the season ends.
Crossing fingers Jobe turns into the secret little surprise in the depth chart no one saw coming.
RIQ- Although at least is tacking better than last year - hewould be my secondary corner at this point - so they need to find that top notch corner and he being the good second side guy!
What I see , currently is that they should have Kept Mike Jackson- Currently he is Playing great ball - another guy , Forget the name is also Ballin out!!!
Yes, he was definitely holding his own against Bosa when they were both in the game. I only saw Lucas get beat once by Bosa. Quite a difference between him and Jerrell, but you should expect that between first string and fourth string.
He was beat more than once, but Bosa didn’t make a significant play. But first game back and looked good. And frankly I’m ok with getting beat occasionally by the elite rushers. Just not always. Zach Martin got totally blown up last night against a NT I hadn’t heard of before. Not many Walter Jones exist.
Olu was good in pass pro, not so good in the running game. He got knocked back six feet on the 4th-and-1 (ft). That being said, pass pro is huge for this team, and he’s still developing.
Yes ... I did see that. I think that could be an issue (strength) but we will see!
Certainly, surpassed my expectations in game 1. Now lets see if he can do it again in pass pro and continue to watch run blocking. He did have some nice run blocking reps too.
You predicted it and it is happening! You have been doing this over and over and over. It's pretty incredible. Are you on the Seahawks scouting team, or maybe you should be?! I look forward to your daily articles, Thank you!
I read a lot of articles about “x player is good.” While this is in that genre, it was way better at drawing out the how and why this matters part of the piece.

We are close.

FWIW, I think JSN has a higher ceiling than Lockett.

Dickson can flip the field and put the ball inside the 10 yard line. Few punters can do both.

Mike, Richard Sherman just dropped an interview with Geno on the Richard Sherman Podcast.
Really enjoyed this podcast
Oh yes... I have to check that out! Thanks
Dickson
Yes, JSN is a gun.

It's not lost on me that the defense came on when JS and MM showed the door to people who weren't producing.
its a reach and I would not bet the farm, but Abe Lucas when healthy is absolutely a beast and potential top ten right tackle in the league.
Got to love a Tackle that keeps track of his pancake blocks.

Only one Walter!
Yes that is what I meant. Just don’t make them like him.
Very exciting part of Sunday. And he basically told the World afterwards that he was not in game shape yet.
Exciting that this could be just the start.
Julian Love. Ernest Jones (esp in a MacDonald defense) Abe Lucas (that was a 1st game back against Nick Bosa we just witnessed)
I'm loving the Ernest Jones pickup so far.
Dare I suggest Olu? (Ducks)
Way too early but that was really promising.
Olu was good in pass pro, not so good in the running game. He got knocked back six feet on the 4th-and-1 (ft). That being said, pass pro is huge for this team, and he’s still developing.

Excited to have an (elite?) duo at WR.
