I feel like Love 'quarterbacks' the defensive backfield so well, things just click better back there with him, let alone his playmaking. I don't see the same cohesion with Okada, but it could be the injuries, and it could get better with more time on task. His playmaking is starting to show up though.

Where has Bryant been?

Since I know nothing about safety play, I view Okada just as I’d view a backup QB—I hope that he can hold his own for a while and suspect that if he were good enough to be a starter, he’d already be starting. Sure, there are exceptions, but you can’t plan on a Josh Jobe.

So I’ve been a Caitlin Clark fan for 4 or 5 years. This year I learned how soft tissue injuries can completely derail an entire season. And it’s starting to look like that for Julian Love this year. That sucks for him…and for us.

Other than being a little shorter than ideal for a safety (as was Earl Thomas), there is nothing in Ty's physical profile that would inhibit success. He ran a 4.4 40 at his pro day (Montana State) and had a 40.5 vertical, which is really good. He's fast and explosive.

As far as football smarts, Mike MacDonald speaks highly of him. Intense kid, and highly coachable. So it's no surprise as he gets more snaps, gets coached up after every series and every game, and then plays more snaps that he's getting better and better. His effort absolutely shows up, especially when you can tell he knows what he's looking at. He gets downhill in a hurry.

He's cleaned up his tackling in the last couple of games, and other than that he's filled in admirably. MacDonald had an interesting answer to a question during a press conference.....I think it was the presser just before the bye week. Asked about perhaps getting some players back after the bye (Love, Spoon et al), MacDonald answered he was more excited about maintaining continuity, and keeping the same guys out there from game to game. It was an interesting answer. Led me to believe he was quite content with the guys already playing. Not trying to read too much into an offhand comment, but I found it an interesting answer.

'Players are allowed to get better' is one of the many Mike MacDonald'isms, and Okada seems to have taken it to heart. Good for him, and good for us.

I am wondering with Witherspoon and Riq back, if maybe there are some snaps for Emmanwori at safety and Okada doesn’t carry the full load? He got 100% of the snaps vs the Texans, but someone gets less with Dev back.

Side note - very short rotation on D last week, basically 13 guys got all the snaps except a small handful for Morris and Pili.

Tyrone reminds me of the development track Josh Jobe took. I think TO is quietly stacking games and will be a solid contributor. I like him.

I think most people here remember I have been on the Okada train from the day he was first signed. I looked up his stats and saw that his 40 times were 4.33 or close to that, and his quickness was also good. He reminded me of Earl Thomas on paper. Then I paid closer attention to him over the last three years, and went so far as to say I thought he was starter quality back during the preseason. He hasn't really let me down much. A few bad tackles, and bad angles, but that's what rookies do. He's getting better each week it seems to me, and I expect he'll start for someone next year.

Okada has been a pleasant surprise for me. I thought he would be PS fodder, again, but he has really come through in spades. If he keeps playing this well, I think Coby walks and Okada takes his place.

How the hell do you have a setback on your week off? I was already leaning towards a pick 6 for Julian this Sunday night. Now how is that going to happen??? I think the game against the Rams and Stafford will be the biggest impact if Love goes on IR. I’m not too concerned about the Cards or Titans without Julian. It’d be nice to have Love against the Moons, but without Terry M, I think we will still beat the Moons with Tyrone out there. (And Spoon Emmanwori…)

Tyrone’s been improving every week with the added experience, so in a way he’s benefited from Love’s previously missed games and added experience. Let’s hope Stafford doesn’t get a chance to exploit him. We’re going to need pressure on Stafford to protect Tyrone if Love’s still out.

I guess it’s a setback when you think you have made progress and it turns out you have not. I can see a situation here a doc is optimistic based on what the patient says and does, then doesn’t like what he sees on the MRI.

I put it repairs itself quickly. He is one of the key players I see that the Seahawks need to a deep run this year.

I guess Okada is going to have to make that pick 6, sign the ball and give it to Julian.

Looks like it’s a bad pull / tear. Indications weren’t good when he reinjured the same hammy on his first game back, but I think the coaching staff were trying to leverage the bye week and save an IR designation in the *hope* Love would make it back…

Now that it definitely isn’t going to happen, it might be a lost season for Love. It’s too bad too, as (when healthy) he’s exactly the kind of versatile playmaker that can really elevate a MM-type of defense…

Hope Julian can get fully healthy and perhaps even return for the end of the season. If not, we’ll see who he’s playing with next season, as Coby Bryant has been making himself more money each week with his current play in Love’s absence…

They haven’t decide on IR just yet, so hopefully he can still make it back after 4 or 5 weeks. No matter how well Tyrone plays, he can’t play at Love’s level. They made an attempt to sign Bryant, but couldn’t agree on dollars, so I’m still hopeful they can before FA comes. With Love, Bryant, Emmanwori and Okata, that safety room is SOLID!

Agree with nearly all of this, except for (my shared) **hope** Bryant will re-sign before FA. If Coby was willing to bet on himself in the offseason, I think there’s zero chance he’s not at least testing free agency…

I keep remembering how he came out of the same defensive backfield as Sauce Gardner and even won the Thorpe award over Gardner the year he was drafted… but was still drafted 100+ spots behind him (and even behind another fellow Cindy DB) during the peak Pete Carroll “grit” years…

I have a feeling Coby’s got a bit of Doug Baldwin in him (good for him) and is trying to gain the respect (and $$) he (rightfully) feels he’s earned… hopefully his journey continues in Seattle, but I’m less optimistic we’ll get him locked up before FA (or if JS commits premier safety money to a “good, not great” talent with other positional needs)…

Yes, the salary cap does force decisions to be made that wouldn’t be in a vacuum. I don’t think they want to get in the financial pickle they were in paying Adams and Diggs. Perhaps there is a number that will make everyone happy. If the Seahawks do come close to winning it this year, Maybe Bryant want to be part of it next year and there’s a little wiggle room to make a deal.
