I would trade Geno for the 9th pick in the draft all day long and twice on Sunday. He's not a SB quality QB. With 9 and 16 we could move up to get the QB we want. Let's face it, we are in a rebuild. New coaching staff, new Safeties, new LBs, two new depth TEs, and. hopefully new IOL. In the most QB deep draft in years, it's time to go all in and get a young QB for the future.

Wilson and Fields… a whole season of drama waiting to unfold. That trade just doesn’t make sense to me from a Steelers point of view.

How I see it, they think Russ will out perform his contract and be too expensive for them next year. So they give Fields a year of Russ & Tomlin mentorship. If he falls in line, then next year they can sign him to a more reasonable contract and make him the starter (this take assumes his option isn’t picked up and he doesn’t play).

I have no idea how good Sam Howell is or how good he can be. I’m intrigued, though, by the list of QBs Seattle could have signed or traded for but didn’t: Darnold, Fields, Garopollo, Mariota, Minshew, Pickett, Tannehill, Winston. Each a legit backup, none would have broken the bank. Even throwing out the ones who have a known ceiling, Schneider opted for Howell over Darnold and Pickett.* This says something about how much the Seahawks value him.

* Randy Mueller says that both have room to develop if they’re in the right situation.

Finally. There was never a market for Fields, so glad people can just move on. If I’m Tomlin I’m pissed. Job on the line and he gets Russ and Fields to go to war with. I dunno. Russell might be a bit of an upgrade, but I guess we’ll see.

Just based on the numbers Russ is a big upgrade over Pickett, right?

TBD. Certainly that possibility exists. If he just plays to his strengths, he could be an improvement, yes. If he sticks to this notion of what he wants to be, then who knows.

I mean Russ to Pickens 🌶️

I tried searching around but couldn’t find it. There was this sound bite of Demaryius Thomas reaction to Peyton going to Denver after being subjected to Tebow. That’s how Im guessing GP feels.

If anyone can ressurect Fields career, it's Mike Tomlin. Time for Justin to mature or face being out of the league entirely.

Baker is a good move. Never underestimate how good "solid" really is. Creates what should be a nice secure set at LB. Everything setting up well for a draft to be about BPA!

Ken, I’m of a like mind. We all love Geno, but he is not a SB winner, unless the defense carries us there. Neither is Dak Prescott, Derek Carr, Jimmy G, Murray, even Lamar. They don’t elevate their team in the playoffs which is what we’re going to need at some point soon. Geno is not that guy.

I think Schneider has done a masterful job in free agency. As far as I can see we've gone backwards in just 1 position... left guard. Every other spot is as good or better. The D-line is better with Nwosu coming back. I believe linebacker is better, the new guys can cover. Diggs wasn't cutting it and Adams was a liability and they're both gone. Am I the only one who thinks that this team is going to be competitive?

Diggs had to play so far off the ball to keep plays in front of him. It’s apparent that he had lost a step.

Are there any good videos out there of people in-the-know dissecting Diggs' play? I feel like I've heard constantly that he's not good anymore (missed tackles), but I don't see it so much from the games. And I reeeeeaally like him as a prrson.

I’d like to know too, what I’ve heard a lot, is he lets other players play affect him too much. When the SS doesn’t do their job he tries to over compensate.

I don’t think that anyone has signed him—that says something.

The question I'm pondering is whether the 'MM SYSTEM' is going to grow a bunch of capable if mid-level defensive vets into more than the sum of the parts. And how quickly?

I read one comment that the Hawks are "soft up the middle", minus a reason why. Maybe - but I'm the know-nothing here. For the time being - like the next six months at a minimum - I guess we'll have to see.

Steelers have ultimate QB situation.. The competition can only make things better

That seems to be the reaction of the fans at the Steeler site, and maybe the plan is to turn Fields into a "Taysom Hill" type and run gadget plays with him. Maybe that happens and Wislon and Fields co-exist, but is the QB room capable of containing both of their egos?

It seems to me that based on their personalities the most likely outcome is there will always be one unhappy QB and the high potential for a dividions "Team Wilson" and "Team Fields".

Or a lot worse. Wilson and Fields both believe that they are starters. Could get ugly!

Kenneth,

I will give you this you won’t give up on trading Geno. How about to Pittsburgh they still need a starting quarterback (I kid)? Did you watch Howell’s games or just the one against Seattle?

On a serious note - the good news is the Seahawks are potentially better at linebacker this year than they were last year for less money and little in the way of long term commitment.

The bad news is the Seahawks are still soft in the middle. I sincerely hope that John’s comments about guards is sour grapes rather than an actual belief that the interior offensive line does not matter. Because if it his actual belief then Grubb better redesign his offense cause the screen passes (25% of passing plays) and inside and outside traps (60% of running plays) that were foundational pieces of the Huskies offense are not going to available. Not to mention that to make plays from the pocket there has to be an actual pocket.

Finally do you really believe Mike Tomlin cares about what the media thinks? Wilson will start in Pittsburgh for a simple reason he doesn’t turn the ball over and is at his best in the fourth quarter when the defense gets warn down. Denver with Hackett and Payton was about the worst situation Wilson could have gone to. Pittsburgh with Tomlin and Smith is about the best. I am not saying it will work but if I had to bet money on whether the Seahawks or the Steelers will make the playoffs and do something - the Steelers would be my choice.

I can’t help but love the drama. Watch the media fall all over itself next year with these two on the same team lol.

On another note I meant to comment on an earlier article that I am most excited to see what Coby Bryant can do in MacDs defense next year. I think no one has really figured out how to challenge him or use him and I just have a feeling.

Trade Geno for what? The Bears' pick at 9 is the minimum I would accept as payment for Geno.

Haha, everyone in Blue would definitely take this. And the Bears would get joked forever.

There’s no other offer the Bears can make that would give Seattle equal value for what Geno offers in 2024. At the same, it’s a huge overpay for the Bears. That’s why a trade is unlikely.

There’s no way that two Genos would bring pick 9. Pick 9 in the second round, maybe. I know we need a 2nd rounder but I wouldn’t trade Geno Smith for that either.
