Love the call out to Jobe by Richard Sherman! That is like a WR getting 👀 by Steve Smith Sr. High praise.

Him playing well is a big deal. Along with the maturation and gelling of the front 7, top Defense is within reach, which means playoffs are w/i reach

SIS data hub has, not one, not two, but three Seahawks o-line in the top 50. Sundell leading the way with Zabel then Cross. We did not have anyone last season in the top 50.

The Seahawks today became the first team to beat Aaron Rodgers as a Packer, Jet and Steeler.

The Walker/Charbonnet combo seems to work based on who we are playing. Their different styles mean one of them will work depending on the D we are playing. And against the Saints they both might work.

Great defense and the run game is heating up? I'm all in on this season.

In the 1st game some of the "solid walls, no holes" of Defensive players Kenneth Walker faced, i don't believe that any RB could squeeze or blast thru. The same goes for Zach Charbonnet in the 2nd game. Both players have a high degree of skill but sometimes the D is on a player behind the line of scrimmage.

* Turns out that running away from TJ Watt and behind Charles Cross is a good plan. The way Cross pulled on Walker’s TD was a thing of beauty

* Could the Hawks be looking at two All-Pro DTs? The potential is there

* There must be fewer unwelcome sights to a QB than that of Derrick Hall bearing down on him. It’s frightening

* 90 receiving yards from Cooper Kupp makes life a lot easier for everyone else on the offense

* Seattle converts both second-half RZ possessions into TDs.

“I stand corrected…”

Not that it’s a big deal. Although I’m retired writer/editor, I remain susceptible to inherent analism.

P.S. Many thanks to Idaho Fred!

I don't miss Geno. To night he had barely a 50% completion ratio with 3 picks. I'm glad the Raiders are massively over paying him, not us!

Yeah, tough night at the office for Geno. Forcing things that aren't there deep, when he's got underneath routes open. Can't force the 1st read because you think it should be open based on the coverage you saw pre-snap. Geno's normally an accurate thrower, but he was off on some throws last night too.....far more than normal. Maybe just new offense, and the timing isn't there yet with his WR's. Not sure.

Not the 74th Birthday celebration Pete would have liked either. Wishing both of them well anyway. Hopefully better things ahead.

I missed game “live” helping my mom. Got to watch later. Mike McD looking for anything poor out of Darnold, so not surprised there. :-)) Loving my FB!!! So fun. What huge blocks. And you know the others feed off that. Grey given up only 1 pressure thus far.

But everyone saying how bad Seattle OLine was (is) and how great the Vikes are (and Darnold benefitted), gave up 6 sacks last night. Millions on that OLine. A couple guys people wanted JS to pay money too. Sure Darrisaw out, but 6 sacks from a “much better OLine”.

Fyi Kupp, Horton, AJ 2 great plays already this season), Arroyo all looking good.

"K9 is terrible, cut him immediately" - Field Gulls probably

I went through their analysis last week, and I thought they were pretty fair. There definitely were some misreads last week if you look at how some of the blocks played out. I think he made some adjustments this week, and Kubiak called things differently for him as well, so good on both of them.

Expand full comment
Bob Johnston's avatar

I agree he made some misreads but what galled me was when I said he could correct them a few people said that was never going to happen. The negativity was mystifying.

Hopefully I wasn't coming off as negative, at least that wasn't my intent. I try to be data driven. If a players production isn't what I think it could/should be, I'll say that. But I'm happy when ANY Seahawk players does well.

I didn't take you comment as negative at all. I agreed with what you said, I was just perplexed why some FG guys said K9 couldn't fix it.

Robbie Smash, man. I don't come out of my chair for a block very often, but he had two that I just thought epitomized what this offence can be. And he's a rookie. If Zabel, Emmanwori, Arroyo, Horton and Ouzts continue to evolve and contribute more each week, that would bode very well for the Seahawks late in the season.

I said last week Walker was trickle, trickle, gush.....without much gushing lately. He cured that Sunday, so hopefully the gushing continues.

I think the support for Walker was fair.

I think the criticism of Walker was fair. As long as it was from the last year of games and not just game 1. (Seahawk Nerd has been on the difference since prior to 2024 season).

I am happy to see him reach his potential in Game 2 and hope that that continues.

Even the people that were critical of Walker, were never critical of his potential. Both crowds can be right at the same time. But everyone should be inspired and happy about the game 2 performance on the road in Pitt.

Also, I thought Seaside Joe Chris H was right on the money with his comment: "K9 looked way more decisive today, mostly. A few dancing in the backfield moments, but he was better at getting in a lane and exploding. Hope he keeps it up."

Yessir ... be decisive, cut back (don't always bounce) and hit the gas pedal.

Lastly, just happy to see guys like Woolen and K9 bounce back week 2. From a leadership perspective it is very hard to know how to get the most out of the guys. Some coaches keep everything in house. MM chose to kind of callout Riq publicly and left K9 criticism to the blogs. The strategy to motivate people is person to person. Good sign for Coach MM!

Anyone see Geno first pass tonight ?

Expand full comment
Mike McD's avatar

Yes I did.

I also saw him throw for 362 yards on the road in New England and win the New England home opener.

Next question.

Expand full comment
Randall Murray's avatar

Where’s the critique of that throw like the one you did of Darnold? NE just gave up 315 yards and an even better comp % of 26 of 32 to Tua. Pats defense maybe not that great.

Expand full comment
Mike McD's avatar

Teams that lose the game tend to throw for more yards. Because when the team is down they pass more.

Why would I critique the Raiders QB?

How funny is it… that for three straight years… a large portion of the fan base went after every single tiny thing Geno did.

Now? Not even one peep against Darnold. And now if you say anything about Darnold you will get attacked.

Why is that? What changed? Why not be consistent with analysis?

Expand full comment
Randall Murray's avatar

First. Game was 23-20 going into 3rd and Phins had lead with 7 min to go. Raiders won last week. Hawks up and Darnold had 300.

Second. You said you would be following Geno this year. You saying he’s so much better etc.

Third. Tried to get you to be consistent about Geno last year. Sort of like your post now. Your first comments this year about Darnold have been anti Darnold. You wouldn’t critique Geno basically at all. Most of us were posting both positives and critiques about him.

Fourth. There were multiple “peeps” about Darnold last week. Criticisms. So not sure where that came from.

Darnolds pass wasn’t good and a Pro Bowler made a great play. Geno’s first pass was terrible. INT. Consistency is all looking for. So, maybe your last paragraph you should think on. It has been you that has been anti-Darnold from get go. I almost came on here a bit ago to say, dang there is the fast Geno we know on that great run he had. I even thought he was going to bull doze for the FD.

Mike McD's avatar

I am the farthest thing from anti Darnold. I have been on Darnold since week 1 last year. That guy made me a bunch of $.

I have followed Darnold before anyone here. I know his game and his ups and downs. I think Darnold is a fine QB and has the potential to take the next step to being a tier 2 QB.

But he completely fell apart when the pressure was at the highest. That is why the Vikings moved on. That is why nothing has surprised me this season. He is playing at the level I expect.

My analysis is extremely consistent.

Why not read my whole comment instead of one snippet?

Here is a great example of a cut BACK from Walker. He almost always bounces outside but here he cuts back.

This is exactly what I want to see. I would put Walker in a dark room and show him highlights of Terrell Davis on repeat:

If he keeps this up that would be fun and very helpful. But I just don’t get the “told you so” narrative, he has struggled for a while due to lack of vision and cutbacks.

Anyways, great to see K9 get lose would love to see both guys get rolling. It is a looooong season

I'm glad you brought up Hall's holding call against Pittsburg, but I'm not sure it is quite as valuable as a sack since they gain another chance for a play. To my eye, Hall WAS the best pass rusher out there and that might include Watt... LOL we wish. I saw Watt getting closer and closer and it seemed to me Watt exhibits the same characteristics as Aaron Donald of old in that they both seem to get stronger as the game goes on. Abe was out there battling on every play. I think he can relax now that the hardest part of the season is over. (Just joking, of course)
