I sold my Seahawks tickets for tonight to focus on game 7. I am not worried about the Texans (after SSJs write up) but I am sick-to-death over this BlueJays lineup.
I randomly had free tickets to the game in which Bill Russell’s Sonics clinched their first playoff spot. Thanks, Slick Watts, for doing that stupid fast food promotion.
Seahawks NFC Championship vs Carolina. Absolute domination of Steve Smith who was having an electric season. We win. First SB. No one wanted to leave. 70 plus year old men, original season ticket holders, younger me, giddy like little boys. Hugging. Crying. High-fiving. No one wanted to leave. Holmgren hoisting trophy. I’m here at Seahawks Stadium. Dad at home watching his Ms. hoping for a double Seattle W tonight. Be awesome if both can win.
Right up there. MetLife SB. National anthem and I was so high up I could see the Army helicopter guys waving at us. I went from upper 300 to the 100 level. Got a little of the confetti. So much joy. But yes. That first one after so long hoping was the best. Man hope both teams win tonight.
Wish I could join live. I’m 10 hours ahead in Finland. With any luck I’ll avoid spoilers until I can watch both games on DVR. Good night and good luck!
I"ve reciently come back from a 9 hour thing in France/Netherland so I understand your pain. On the other hand, the Stock Market opens at three in the afternoon, so you get all the News first.
First off, I would appreciate the chat opening a full 30 minutes before kickoff. It seems you wait till the last moment to open the chat, and I get nervous and once the game starts is not the time to be fiddling with my computer.
I also wish you had a better system for hosting chats. I would guess that your hosting site is set in stone, but you might prod substack to acquire a better format for hosting chats.
I'm not a tech guy, so no. But I know a good platform when I interact with it. They are out there. I assume some platforms work better with substack, let's say, than other platforms. I also assume they have different costs, and since cost is the critical data point for most businesses, I assume that is true at substack too.
I remember game 5 of the first round of the 94 NBA playoffs when the Nuggets pulled off one of the biggest come from behind upsets of NBA history against the top seeded Sonics. Our second child had just been born and everything was looking so, so good in life. I left the Seattle Center Coliseum/Key Arena with the image of Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo clutching the ball against his chest lying on OUR home court burned into my vision. It's still there today.
On a happier note, I also remember the magical 95 Mariners season capped off by, "The Double" that Edgar hit to bring in Cora and The Kid to secure game 5 of the ADLS. That was something special and I miss Dave Niehaus and Kevin Calbro calling Mariners and Sonic's games, respectively.
Ugh... That game 5 was on the day of my 14th birthday party. Still the worst birthday party of my life. Just a bunch of pissed off kids, too old to not care but too young to drown our sorrows.
All of my life there was an unwritten rule that our Teams would insist their games be telecast on air to their hometown fans. Today will be a first this doesn't happen with either our Baseball or Football folks. It's just WRONG. And it is obvious a huge portion of the national audience will be headed to bed at 10 PM Eastern. Bad things happen to those who forget where they come from. I'm not so pissed as disgusted. It's worse than watching the officials award the Giants a last-minute winning TD against the Bronco's. Thank god for those boys righting the wrongness of it in 33 seconds.
It's ridiculous that these games are restricted from the primary location -- especially the MLB historical run that's almost over. It isn't going to get better next season, either. I read somewhere that a streaming service is taking over...don't quote me, I vaguely recall it's Apple+ -- right now that's not a very costly streamer, but I'm in a metered internet service and only have a limited number of gigs a month before they start charging $2 for ever gig I go over...it adds up very, very fast.
Not sure what TV provider you have, but I've got the very limited Coast Communications at Ocean Shores. I managed to find the baseball game will air on the FOX station in the 100 level channels (113) UPDATE: TVGuide didn't tell the truth!! Baseball is not being televised locally anywhere! and the Seahawks will air on the 300 level channel (309) ESPN. Explore the lists on tvguide.com for your provider and maybe you will find the games, too.
Yes, I do want to get this off my chest: you may not count this post as an official newsletter but THE REST OF US DO. And we LOVE these in-game chats and if that's all we received today, all of us would say Day 2,422 is complete.
Which just adds to the value we get from SSJ -- already have a dramatic memory from the Gary Payton trade and an acknowledgment today may be the biggest single day in Seattle sports history given Mariners Game 7 AND Seahawks playing for 5-2 and a share of the division lead (although Super Bowl XLVIII may always wear that crown forevermore).
Thank you for your diligence Kenneth, that's what I want to get off my chest
The official's behavior on the darnold interception by stingly was perfect. I think i'm more of a fan of football for having watched it.
Louis Riddick is the best value-added commentator, hands-down
Targets: JSN 8, Arroyo 2, Kupp Barner Horton 1 each
We should have at least a 17-0 lead even with the blocked FG
Time to go for 6

Also in other news. Tyler released by the Titans.
Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic
They didn't seem to be utilizing him much. I was so surprised when he made that move with how much of his life is here in Seattle.
That’s unfortunate. But not surprising.

That’s a great call back I did not expect!

Excitement. Horseshoes, crossed fingers, rabbits’ feet, 4 leaf clovers and the 12s. Go Seattle!

That’s fair!

Go Hawks and Mariners!
I appreciate your participation, even in the face of frustration.
I have tried opening the chat early. Nobody showed up until game time. I was planning on opening it up early because of the Mariners game tonight.
Any chance you have a platform you would recommend?

Writing out Mutombo’s full name is the perfect touch.

What has happened to sports broadcasts is abhorrent.
