If only four for Mt. Rushmore, I pick Walter Jones, Steve Largent, Cotez Kennedy, and Richard Sherman. We wouldn't have been in and won the super Bowl without Sherman IMHO. Cortez gets there Just because he was so flippin good, even though those teams weren't. There are others that should be considered, and the list is actually fairly long, so won't go there. Have been watching and rooting for the Hawks since their existence and do understand how it is very subjective for all Hawks fans!
I agree with all of the great choices listed for Mt. Rushmore and have a hard time picking just four. So I’m going to make an oddball set of players with memorable, unusual plays: Efren Herrera for receiving a TD on a fake field goal, Jon Ryan for throwing a TD on a fake punt during a playoff game, Michael Dickson for a scoop and punt and also running for a first down around the 20 on a botched punt, Jack Patera for being the first coach of the expansion Seahawks who was a grumpy disciplinarian but was also famous for whacky special plays.
None of these can compete with Largent, Jones, Tez, PC on sheer ability, but all added to the fabric of Hawks history.
I have been pondering this since yesterday. I can agree with almost every player mentioned.
I finally decided that I would offer a list of every Seahawk whom I have met: Dave Krieg, Walter Jones, Shaun Alexander, Marcus Trufant, Ray Roberts, Mike Tice, Brian Bosworth, George Fant and not Max Pircher, but I did have breakfast with his father in Munich.
There is a Mt Rushmore and favorite players. Clearly Largent is there. But Mack Strong and “my man Jacob” Green (Seahawks all-time sack leader) are 2 of my all-time favorites (still stinks Mack isn’t in the Ring of Honor. Kenny likely in there had he not gotten hurt (see those INT stats in so few games??). Dave Brown gets almost no recognition by anyone. So hard to limit to 4 being a since original season Hawks fan. Largent, clearly Walt. Tez. Fourth is hard. Paul Allen from a non player perspective simply because he saved the Seahawks from that freaking piece of trash stinking garbage Californian. PC. Knox. Clearly BWagz. But I’m probably going Kam. Another powerful safety that’s career was cut short much too soon.
Walter Jones seems to be the common denominator amongst the crowd. I, personally, would have my childhood hero Steve Largent in the mix. Then it gets difficult. I saw Kennedy play and he was a beast, I saw Marshawn play and he was a Beast Mode. So I guess...Jones, Largent, Kennedy, and Lynch for me.
Great background and history in this article. I really like getting a great backstory. Thanks again Kenneth, without SSJ I would be so bored in the off-season....I can't barely wait for the season to start.
Thanks for the Q response Joe! It makes sense for them to see how the line plays out once snaps and pads are in play. Once they lost LG Damien Lewis, I have a feeling that they were high on LG Cooper Beebe filling a positional need while offering more flexibility(having played LT, LG and RT while projecting as a center), but he went at 73 so they picked RG Haynes 8 picks later. With the offensive line we had last year, beggars can't be choosers, but I just hope that we maximize the value of our Guards even if it ends up being Sataoa Luamea coming out of left field. Thanks again for the response.
Tez and Walt are gimmies. Two of the best ever at their positions. Then Largent I think. After that there are a dozen to fill in that 4th spot. Marshawn is in there, and not just for his play on the field. The guy is an absolute character, and makes me laugh every time I hear him talk. Easley's another top candidate. Hutch might have been the one, if he had played for the Seahawks longer. But I'm going to go with Cam as my 4th, mainly because he just broke the mold. Just a freak as a strong safety at that size, wonderful human being, and so many memorable hits. When I think of those great 49'er battles, Cam is who comes to mind as the difference maker on that defense.
I'm not worried about the o-line yet. There are enough candidates with enough talent to battle it out, and if the coaching staff can make a bit of a difference, I think we'll be alright there. I expect that will be one of several areas where we'll be better later in the season than early, and Grubb will need to alter his play calling until he gets comfortable with where they are at. If Abe is back to full strength, what a bonus that would be.
in the spirit of Mt Rushmore, the guys who started it: Jim Zorn, Steve Largent; then I'd add Tyler Lockett who has apparently been there forever; for the fourth, perhaps Matt Hasselbeck, but back then I was watching Seahawks on a black-and-white TV and so lost some of the colorful ....

Kenny Easley, Walter Jones, Marshawn Lynch, and Bobby Wagner. And a hope that Spoon is on his way to knocking someone off. Begaw!!

Was he a huge guy?

I can make an allowance for hasselbeck only if it includes a plaque saying "we want the ball and we're gonna score"
Wasn't his fault - the receiver ran the wrong route!
Pete Carroll
Russell Wilson
Marshawn Lynch
Kam Chancellor

Mt Rushmore: Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy, Walter Jones, Pete Carroll.
Largent and Jones first-ballot HOF and Carroll were easy calls. I had to split some All-Pro hairs between Kennedy and Easley.
For team loyalty/longevity, gimme Largent, Jones, Wagner, and the underrated Mack Strong!
