I will say that the writers at Heavy.com are true clickbait. Not because they are so poor at so called journalist tasks, what they bring is trash. I suspect you rarely click their articles. I do sometimes but if I see it I ignore it. As for this from PFF, agreed there seems to be some serious issues with judgement. Depends on criteria they used but those 3 are not at present behind guys like Ridder and Love.
I don’t look for these types of articles, I much prefer the thoughtful, informative writing I find from SSJ. We’re lucky to have him! It would be almost impossible for anyone to research the entire NFL and then write in depth articles simply due to time limitations, I don’t fully understand how Ken manages it with just the Seahawks.
The rankings article doesn’t even pretend to have done anything close to a SSJ analysis, after the first 4 it’s almost picking names from a hat. That said, I hope Russ ends up near 28. Not because I hate him, he’s one of the most important players in Seahawk history, but because I hate the Broncos dating back to the Seahawks’ AFC west days.
If you click on the link, and there is an advert in front of your face when you get there, the website gets paid. Clickbait is the modern version of Hearst's "yellow journalism", the tactic of which is to entice a purchase based on a salacious headline. That's what PFN did, and it matters not whether the comments are positive or negative. What matters is how many clicks they generated. As it happens, that is why there are so many things that seem slanted to generate negative reviews: negative emotions rise more quickly, and require more "relief", so result in more reviews...which results in more clicks...which results in more pay.
(Inconceivable, you say? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means!)
Ol' Seaside Joe is better than that.
Now, I'm off in search of a six-fingered man. Have fun storming the castle!
QB success is often less related to talent and more related to team, coaching and offensive scheme as evidenced by Jim Plunkett. A total bust in NE and a HOF in San Fran.
As per instructed by SSJ, I did not issue my "like" to this article because I much prefer the origin stories and other direct actual Seahawk topics over addressing these types of stories. If the hypothesis that any attention is good attention is remotely true, I would prefer we didn't give any attention to these types of writers and stories... so, no "like", even though I "love" SSJ and Ken.
The more people can share Origin Stories if these are enjoyed, the better. Sharing us when you like a story would be the best thing possible. Even Quandre Diggs shared his own origin story on Twitter but surprisingly that did not return any new subscribers.
Of course they intentionally don't define the context of the top-10 either. Are these ranked based on how good they are, how good they are expected to perform this coming season, how successful they will make their teams, etc. This works to the point of the article. It is vague and has no context, therefore everything about the list is debatable. It is manufactured and belongs in the same pile as "reality" TV and other flimsy knockoffs because it is a knockoff of real content. So, even though it isn't strictly common click-bait, not because it doesn't promise 1 idea, then not contain that idea, but because it is fugazi at it's core. The absence of things like this, replaced with hearty robust deeper natural stories here at SSJ is a big reason why I am here daily for my Seahawk fix.
Yes, I intentionally used addiction language there.
The fact that they tweet this out with the question "which top-10 quarterback surprised you and who should be much higher," literally inviting readers to criticize them, is all the evidenced you need to know they didn't take this seriously. You don't even have to look at the ranking to know that it was created with the expressed intent to cause a negative reaction from readers.
Top ten lists, if they are actually legit (which this one is not) are at least better than Mock drafts....those literally are my anti-clickbait. Cant get off the page fast enough. Don't know who these guys ar, but no one really believes '23 Russ is "from now on" Russ, not if they actually watched him the last decade. Way more bad than good on this list.
Nothing you ever write, Ken, could be called "clickbait" because there is no incentive to post other than to have people read interesting content. There are no ads. No eyeballs are counted. The same is not true of virtually any other source of information--when a low-information hot take is posted it deserves the clickbait label.
That said, that PFF article if written a year ago would have had the positions for RW3 and Geno reversed. Rank-ordering any group of 32 will exaggerate the differences between 1 and 32 (or between 20 and 28) when there are more likely to be performance tiers as you have discussed previously.
But if I were betting (which I am not) I would say that even with an improved season from Russ, Geno's final stats for 2023 (barring injury for either player) will be superior in completion %, yards, and TDs. Geno just has more weapons and a more complete roster than is the case in Denver.
Hoping you're right on Geno- and really why not? So many more weapons and a year of being the man. It's all about the center for me. if we can get lucky with Ola or Ethan, then maybe the line becomes a strength, and the sky is the limit for Geno, w all the weapons. If we drop the ball with one more underperforming center (since Unger left...OUCH!) it will be the death of me and will hurt Geno's high side big time.
Yeah, I think the Seahawks are in better shape at C now than at any time since Unger was traded, and the G position looks solid also with the competition there.
I was going to add... and at this point in their respective careers, Geno just might be the better overall QB regardless of the roster if only because he has less mileage on his frame.
It's definitely possible. I just feel like A we know what russ USED to do...can he go back to that? or are the wheels wore out? And Geno...he absolutely did it for 8 or 10 games...but the last 5 or 6 were regression to the mean....so can HE be the 1-10 guy? I think he can. I'm with you. but I do think Russ is gonna have a very big year.
First of all, this stuff is dumb. Even so, there’s a demand for it. The question is how to meet the demand while retaining some semblance of credibility. To me, it’s simple: For one season, regardless of age or experience, which QB do you want to lead your team? If that guy’s taken, who’s next? And so forth. I believe that most GMs would rather take their chances with Stroud or Young than almost any of QBs 13-25. Same with 26-28 except that any of them are arguably Top 10 or even 5 (same with Rodgers). Just because there’s a risk attached with Watson, Stafford, and Wilson doesn’t mean it’s a risk not worth taking.
Paul, you said it.... there is a demand. But, I'm not sure the demand is for THIS STUFF. I think there are so many fans like us who want more of the game when there is no news happening, that these are the types of made-up stuff that gets put out there. Sort of like when the radio/TV producers ask "barstool argument" questions of their hosts just to have something to discuss. It's all real disingenuous for the sake of attention (clicks?) or filling air time.
What is awesome is that we lucky few who hunger for the content have found SSJ. Or course, maybe Ken wouldn't have as much to write about without these unimportant ambiguous peices out there for him to address. It is indeed a double-edged sword, but if so I still think SSJ would have plenty of original thought, or origin story, left in the tank.
Do we ever get an inkling of who is writing their opinions at PFF? Yea, tons of uninformed click bait out there- None Here !

Clickbait is as clickbait does. Let me explain.
No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

You just never know!
Plunkett was a very good QB misused with a Horrible OL in NE- That is why he succeeded elsewhere-
As per instructed by SSJ, I did not issue my "like" to this article because I much prefer the origin stories and other direct actual Seahawk topics over addressing these types of stories. Some people are like babies they need almost constant attention. May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!
