This is interesting. Hawks have 3 DL in the upper right. Good luck with that! Pats 2 stars are in upper left, Durden is upper right. It is universally being said that M Williams wrecks the run game but it isn't showing up here, he appears as more of a pass rusher. KK is going to need a lot of creative outlets to beat the intense pressure up the middle.

I would pay hundreds of dollars every year to watch every game from behind the quarterback like on the TNF Prime Vision broadcast. I HATE that you can't see as much of the blocking or the route running from the standard broadcast view. I watched many TNF games I otherwise didn't care about just so I could enjoy that angle (and a little bit of commentating that gets into a bit more of the Xs and Os). Please, Seaside Joe, if you know of some way to make this happen let me know. Whom do I petition?

PFF out here drawing ms paint arrows on stills from the film, then trying to foist off some vibecoded betting "aide". What a poverty org.

It would be poetic if Vrabel is named COTY on Thursday, and Macdonald steals his lunch money on Sunday. I don't care about COTY or ROTY or any of that stuff.....just win the Super Bowl please!

I'm going with Leo for MVP. He's waited so long to get there, he will leave nothing to chance. He will use every ounce of his strength, and all of his football smarts to affect the game. He'll have two key sacks that are game changers.

Really glad Emmanwori will be a GO for the game. Low ankle it seems like, which is FAR easier to manage than any kind of high ankle sprain. Especially for a hybrid player. Functionally he'll be fine. He'll just have to manage the discomfort.

I've watched most of Coach Macdonald's press conferences, and you can see the intensity just below the surface. He wants to win SO BAD! I'm sure the players are feeling that vibe, and hope they play their best game of the year for him, and for guys like Leo and D-Law.

Love the take on Big Cat! Let's GO!

And just to pile on a little, I'm looking forward to Sam Darnold outplaying Drake Maye by an embarrassing amount and the world is left to wonder why one of these QB's was considered for the league MVP award and the other wasn't.

Would be chefs kiss to see this. When CMC is calling SD one of the best football players he's played with... There's clearly a very different perception about him on the field vs in the chattering classes.

Looks like the Patriots won both AP Coach of the year and AP Asst Coach of the year. Seems odd considering their strength of schedule.

I watched the honors program. Stupid skits and strange writing for the presenters. The players were the most interesting with their speeches but it seemed like many of the winners were questionable for how they managed to get the win. McCaffrey was nominated for at least 5 categories and won two. He’s certainly a standout but that was overkill with how many other players are just as good in the categories he didn’t win.

Zero interest in viewing a game with Next Gen Stats. I would prefer no commentators if I could still get the crowd noise and referee calls.

Quint's avatar

My peeve are commentators that only holler during the play. Brady does it too. It's as dumb as laughing track and makes the game into a bro culture comedy.

A thought occurred after reading this and watching the video links: I know it's early to ponder, but what are the eventual salary cap and contract implications from Emmanwori's roster status as a safety, but his playtime clearly indicating something else?

I've no doubt it'll get worked out - even Jimmy Graham eventually resigned with the Saints after losing the argument that he should be paid as a WR - but I'm wondering just how far apart player and team might start out when it comes time to discuss E's second contract.

A huge thank you to all who gave answers to Where You At? I LOVE reading all of the comments and learning a bit more about everyone.

This community is f-ing AWESOME!

The E-man was a Did Not Participate today. However in his morning press conference, MM said there was a possibility they would hold him out of practice, but expected him to play on Sunday. Tomorrow we get a game designation. Hopefully it is no worse than questionable.

JS will get a serious test now of his insistence we stick to the budget. I could point at Wilson's salary demands as breaking the O-Line budget when JS had to find money from somewhere. Hard lesson/well learned. It works only if John is not caught trying to "save" money for corporate. He and Jody have no doubt designed exactly how much the Hawks have to spend, spreading the generosity fairly among all groups. If Sam goes nuts with demands, John has two QBs waiting in the wings. Any other Team willing to give him obscene Wild Money will undoubtedly face the same problems in the ensuing year. Comes a point where it'd be stupid for Sam to say No, in any event. For all the high flying emotions Sam must be feeling right now, will he shrug it off and become, as did Brady, the heartbeat of Team Play? A picture of Commitment? 3-Peat? 4-Peat? What say you, Boys?

Re: Senior Bowl. Yes you’ll get to it pre draft posts you do but it seemed the Senior Bowl was “weak” this year. Not a lot of great plays. RB class weak but there were a couple of RBs that stood out. Lopsided game. Didn’t have that WR story line (brother dying) type. About the main story was would Nussmeier (spelling) show up or not after such a horrible final season at lSu. He did

Grant Alden's avatar

Trevor Sikkema said this year’s draft class is thin at premium positions like QB and CB, but well-stocked at positions like LB and safety. Fwiw.

Re: SB MVP. Missed our prior MVP was also a defensive player, so going with DLaw is a strong possibility. Smith won it since he scored as many points as the vaunted Broncos offense. So, DLaw or a Big Cat pick 6 are as good of bets as Darnold or K9. Just hope it is a defensive guy, would mean another dominating SB win.

Watching some of the Chase Daniel stuff gives me more confidence in Sam. I'm superstitious about nothing in life — save Seattle sports! So I'll just temper that the level of play from both QBs in the NFC championship was bonkers. I truly loathe McVay, but I have mad respect for Stafford.

But some of what Daniel points out, about Sam's successful reads, really does make me happy, because so much of this was post-snap, not pre-snap. He checked and re-checked. Okay, they're in this coverage — and this is what changed or didn't change.

It's not that New England won't be tougher with some of their defense. They could get home on blitzes. But I suspect they won't blitz as much because their corners are great — but the rest of their secondary isn't elite. You have a 1:1 with Barner, Coop, and especially K-9, and you've got a problem.

Then there's their offense vs. Seattle's D. And I don't care if McDaniels is a sorcerer. He's going to have to design a ton of special sauce for Maye, and although Maye's great at deep shots, I'm very sure McDonald has spent a ton of time reinforcing that fact to his team. And, likewise, with containing Maye on scrambles. Further, watching more of Maye's deep-shot throws, it's often been against subpar defenses and defensive lines. And he doesn't have Nakua or anyone remotely close to anyone with that level of body control or pass-catching chops at WR.

This game will probably be closer than any of us wants. Maybe NE even wins.

But my suspicion is that NE's offensive line cannot hold up, and even if it's a defensive battle through the first half, you'd have to guess Seattle exploits the Pats' weaknesses and eventually the dam breaks. Better talent doesn't always win out. But take the last SB as an example. Are you taking Mahomes or Maye for talent? Duh. I also think a healthy Patrick can outrun Drake Maye, too.

But look at Philly's D last year! It was sick. Mahomes was absolutely swarmed. When you cannot even get the ball to Kelce (and I don't think he's going for the Pats on Sunday), you see how this works. Again, maybe Seattle doesn't pull off that kind of dominance, but that outcome is far more likely than others. And if it doesn't happen, it's because Seattle struggles to run the ball.

Most pundits predict a close defense heavy game. Could be just that, but most pundits thought the Hawks would be 3rd in the NFC, not make the playoffs and Sam would choke in big games. So, in my (literal) 'book', most pundits have zero credibility. Personally, I'll be a deer in the headlights level surprised if the Hawks aren't playing backups (in a good way) by the 4th quarter.

huevobueno's avatar

Was reading an article by Cody Alexander and he notes that NE's offense doesn't rely as much on motion and scheming as Seattle's so the onus will be on Maye to make it all happen with his arm. To me, it seems like this might lead to a lot of defensive disguise and opportunities for INT's.

Randall Murray's avatar

Rookie Wazzu Williams has had some deep ball success as has Boutte. Just not sure against who. Do hope Love and Coby ready with good reads. We know Woolen can keep up with both but it’s Spoon that is the liability on the deep balls. But will NE line give Maye the time. I suspect one big derp ball success. One good sustained drive. Hopefully that’s it. Lots of punting by NE ideally.

Mcdude's avatar

I am going with a Malcom Smith like MVP.

Derrick Hall, because of all he has been through in his short life.

May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!

Paul G's avatar

On the fourth down pass that Spoon broke up, Hall dropped into coverage against Puka Nacua and stymied him!

Randall Murray's avatar

I like that. Yeah someone else that we’re not expecting! Hall has just been so big at point. Watching him just bull rush OTs even losing weight to them has been fun. Hall pushing T into Drake, fumble and recovery.

There should be an option to watch every single game with the amazon all-22 TNF view. I understand why not every person would want to watch it like this, but for fans that watch film, there is no better way to watch the game. There's only so much you can see from the regular broadcast and what you think you see might not but what it really is. OK, the qb got sacked, but his first target was a bait throw that would've easily been a pick and his right guard didn't touch anyone so there was immediate pressure up the gut. Those things matter, I wanna know who is open, I wanna know who got beat and who won every play, and admittedly you have to record, pause and rewind and then focus on whatever players you wanna see, but then you get to skip commercials!!

Randall Murray's avatar

Why I like being at the stadium but can’t see replays much. I like being able to watch a player or group vs just the ball. How I knew a couple years ago we had the start of a great run defense with JReed and Big Cat even though the stats didn’t back it up. Seeing those guys get double and triple teamed I knew if we got LBs and another big guy (Murph) and new DC, we be dominate. JReed can sometimes be just a dog in the middle and we know Williams and Murphy are great too. It also allowed me to see the great growth of Coby at FS. Love these guys. Okada might be an unsung hero this game.

Jeffe Duran's avatar

That's a good call on Okada, especially with the news about Nick. Honestly as long as the d line shows up like they have been all season (minus the Rams) I don't worry about much else for the defense.

Randall Murray's avatar

DLine was there against Rams too. Stafford just so freaking good at his craft, frankly still the best pure pocket passer there is. Rams still didn’t have a 100 yard rusher. And DLaw on that 4th down RZ play used his brains and took the pass away. We got pressures just not sacks. Considering how good McVay and Stafford are I’m not seeing those games as examples of poor line play but more Coach Mac not selling out to get sacks. I wonder if next year he does if Stafford plays though.

I was shocked at the number of people who brought this up to me. Two family members asked if this would change the betting line. It got to the point where I just copy and pasted my response : They are being pretty vague about it, but another injury report comes out tomorrow, where we’ll see if he’s DNP, limited or full. On Friday’s report, we’ll get a game status. If he’s DNP tomorrow, that will be a bad sign. If he’s a full participant, that will be a good sign. Limited would leave it up in the air. I doubt we’ll hear anything before tomorrow’s practice. MM doesn’t offer more than he has to most of the time.

The E-man is truly going to be the steal pick of the draft. His play at the end of the season was pro bowl level, and I would be shocked if he doesn’t grow from there. The reason the Seahawks can live in nickel is because of the E-man’s ability to play as an edge, ILB, slot CB etc. I think they would consider playing him at strong safety deep, but with Love, Bryant and Okata there is no need. I can’t wait to see him in the SB. I’d bring him on a blitz first play. If we can get Maye to turn the ball over early, that may affect his play going forward. I also expect him to shadow Maye in dime situations and prevent his explosive scramble/runs plays in passing situations. His speed can keep his legs from extending drives.

Randall Murray's avatar

News because it was news Danno. Just like Darnolds oblique. I didn’t make a deal out of it when I posted because it was early but he’s also missed games because of ankle. Today we got it was lower ankle. But considering hid versatility to the defense it is news.

Danno's avatar

I wasn’t referring to you making a big deal out of it. It was mostly friends and family who have been asking me about the Seahawks and betting on them to cover the 4.5 points. They were concerned about it affecting the outcome of the game. I suggested the sit tight and wait for today’s injury report. Re-evaluate based on what comes out. Since then several people have made it clear he’s likely to play :)

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

Maybe MM curtails or limits his coverage duties where he must make hard stops and turning/twisting on a dime? (stuff that is hard on ankles). Play to your strengths AND adjust for weaknesses.

Randall Murray's avatar

:-)). All I know. I never bet on my Hawks. Superstitious!!!!

Danno's avatar

I don’t bet on anything, but people have told me betting on the Hawks paid off this year. I doubt we’ll see the same level of stupidity about what the hawks are capable of next year. I suspect they’ll be expected to win a few more than 7.5 games.
