I very much enjoyed last night's game. I still hold a bit of a throwback grudge from our AFC West days, and have seen enough of "Fight for your Right to Party" from Travis Kelce. And I'm kind of the opposite of a Swiftie. So I was rooting for the Eagles to pull off the upset. In addition, the Chiefs scored more points (albeit in garbage time) than the Broncos did when we blew them out and our status of greatest Super Bowl defense in the modern era is intact. So it was an enjoyable game for me, though the Super Bowl is always bittersweet when we aren't in it. Mostly because it means no more football for what will feel like forever. Though there are worse products than the AFL, I suppose. I'm not a big fan of other sports.
I was surprised that the crowd was so Eagles heavy. It felt like a home game from before opening kickoff. I had a strong feeling Taylor Swift would get booed, simply for being a Chiefs fan. Eagles fans would boo Jesus if he rooted for the opponent. And wow did they deliver! She seemed rather shocked by the crowd's reaction, and for a hummingbird's heartbeat, I felt kind of sad for her. But then I remembered that she's worth billions and dates that bonehead Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs looked as bad as I could remember seeing them. Even the Bucs didn't take them to the woodshed that badly. I felt like Tom Brady was loving every second of it. I also felt like he's not a good enough commentator to deserve the Super Bowl, but many may not share my opinion. Neither here nor there but either his makeup was on the heavy side or he's had a little work done. Something seemed off about his face.
This game definitely showed the value of trench play. On both sides of the ball, the Eagles pushed the Chiefs around. And when your 4 can get to the quarterback and you can let the other 7 drop back, it's hard for even a great like Mahomes to operate. Though I do think that he might have gotten hurt early. Either on the sack where his head hit the turf hard or the hit he took the next series, he seemed shaken up. But I'm not sure if it made a difference when nobody was open and the 4 rushers were relentless all game long. I don't think the Eagles sent an extra rusher all night.
There were lots of players on both sides that I expected to be Seahawks when they were coming out in the draft. Though outside of Dee over Creed, I'm mostly okay with who we took in recent drafts considering what we knew at the time, Jalen Carter's off-field baggage, etc.. It does make me feel like our team is father off than I'd like for us to be, though. I'm looking forward to trimming bloated contracts off of this roster and retooling it to better fit the new coaching staffs' scheme. Just maybe we can be the ones doing the pushing around in a Super Bowl while MM and JS are still around.
Well said. I haven’t believed the Chiefs were as grand as their W/L record showed and I would guess that the many who complained about the officiating all season agreed that yesterday revealed the reality.
One more thing. I was stunned by how ineffective the Chiefs were. I’ve thought about it and all I can think of is that the Eagles’ game plan, preparation and execution was the perfect approach to this game. They had more than the right players.
I'm not advocating for extending or releasing Geno. I think either could happen, and both have good arguments that they should happen. I do think that if you inserted Geno at QB into the Philadelphia offense that he would have won that game. Our front office has said a few times now that we can win a super bowl with Geno and I don't think it's BS coach-talk. There is a number that Geno wants, and there is a number that JS thinks he can build a team within. How far apart are those two numbers? We don't need to build a roster just like the Eagles, but we do need to identify our strengths, make them even stronger, and create an identify on both sides of the ball. We're going to need good drafting, good cap management, and an OC with vision and consistency; and luck, a lot of good luck.
I disagree. The Eagles did not really have a running game. Hurts made it look easy, yes. But Geno does not have the processing skills to lead such an efficient Offense. But thats just my opinion
The question isn't really if Geno is a better or worse QB than Hurts, or which layer of atmosphere they float within (I'm almost certain they both reside within the troposphere). The question is, would the Eagles have won the Super Bowl yesterday if Geno were their QB? I think they would have. Behind that O-line and with that defensive performance, I think a lot of NFL QBs would have won. Hurts definitely made it look easy, as Fabian points out, and perhaps I don't give him enough credit. Was he the MVP? I don't know. I do believe that Vic Fangio was the MVC, however.
Yes the defense definitively carried the eagles. And geno would have won as well with this team in that case probably. I Just wanted to say that I do not think that geno could have led an Offense this efficient, regularly move the chains and get TD's in the red zone. But you point is valid of course
Teams can improve quickly, though, if the FO is aggressive enough and good enough. The Eagles defense has only three starters left from the 2022 SB team.
Yep. I compared depth charts. The Eagles drafted Carter and Nolan Smith in 2023 and Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean last year. Baun and Gardner-Johnson were FA signings in 2024 and Milton Williams and Jordan Davis became starters in 2023.
I came out of this hoping the Seahawks sign Becton in free agency. Trey Smith will cost north of $20 million and Becton will cost $9-$10 million. This will leave us with enough cash to peruse Drew Dalman, the Atlanta Falcon’s center who will likely cost around $10 million a year. The reason it is important to get 2 quality O-linemen is…… This game showed us how important it is to try and get an impact edge rusher with pick 18. We need to get better on both sides of the line to get to the dance. (Super Bowl)
I didn’t tune in until the final 4 minutes when the Eagles defense was tired and the lead was comfortable enough to not risk injury. That’s been where the Chiefs typically find their wins. The loss was bigger than the score indicated. Seeing the smug get slapped off their arrogant faces was very satisfying.
Always a contrary take. It was their 20th game of the season/post-season. They were in the final minutes with a lead that allowed them to relax emotionally and physically.
It is entirely possible that one of the better DT's in the draft could fall to the Seahawks at 1.18. And after watching that game, I think JS would draft him, o-line be damned. A dominant d-line can absolutely take over a game. Wow. I'd be fine with it. Trenches, trenches, trenches......on either side of the ball.
I loved it! Watching the Chiefs get punched in the mouth over and over and over, so much fun! Plus we got to see why the Chiefs are still a powerhouse with some nuts quick shots to Worthy. All round i found it entertaining, and had no issues staying awake until almost 4am - which is not always true in closer games that lack spark.
Also earlier in the evening I went to watch Marshawn Lynch's new movie - Love Hurts. Ke Huy Quan is fun and obviously talented and deserves more proper leading man roles, Ariana DeBose does her best with a terribly underwritten character (you can see why she's an Oscar winner who deserves better roles as well). But damn Marshawn, held his own as the 4th best performance (Sean Astin was third best in a small but excellent cameo) and was genuinely fun. Didn't have much to do but he nailed his quips and felt like a genuine character actor and not stunt casting. He even got a "Beastmode!" yell in there that made sense to the film. Yeah, not bad at all! Nice to have something 'Hawks to be proud of on Superbowl Sunday :)
[Overall the movie is, unfortunately 2*. The base script is very very meh, and does nothing to help any of the cast. The direction is also pretty bland. And for an 87North production, surprisingly little action. Far from a Bad movie and 1hr20mins it doesn't overstay it's welcome, just very dissapointing given the credentials both on screen and behind the scenes. Ke & Arianna deserve much much better movies!]
I watched Bottoms, just because I'd seen clips of Marshawn in it and would also give that one 2 stars. If we're talking a one hundred scale. It was shoddily written and thrown together too (from your description of Love Hurts; I haven't seen it) and his best performances were in the trailer. They made that movie on his life that he made them bury, and that would probably be my favorite -terrible acting, directing, and script be damned, it's the Marshawn story! And even if it's The Room level bad, you know he would come out okay. He's so good on film. He's got a (pretty bad) HBO Max show I watch that is never any good but he carries it to the point of almost watchable and half-ass tries to do stuff other people are really good at. I found him so entertaining when he was put on Murderville and being grilled by detective Terry Seattle, but I've come to the conclusion that when tasked with acting -he's just too real for it. He's great for improv just by being such a funny, thoughtful and emotive, yet badass guy. If Murderville had made it to a second season -and they used him as a repeat guest, I really believe it would have swept the nation.
Stayin up til 4 A.M.( game related )? Are you in Hawaii or something KH? You lucky bastard 😁. Thanks for the drop on the flick. Gonna check it out bruh.
Need better linemen. Also sucks that Huff was signed by LA and will exploit the weaknesses of our oline next year. Hope we remake the interior with a purpose.
We lament not getting the Chief's center (Humphrey?) in the draft, but today's game show's it takes all of the OL working to have effective pass pro. Humphrey didn't look any better than Olu in that stampede to Mahomes through the guys around him.
Still think we should have taken Carter. Love Spoon, but think the positional value is greater in the trenches. With the Eagles DL, their secondary doesn't have to defend as long. We could have had Williams, Carter, and Murphy as our front 3.
If we take Carter, we might take Brian Branch in lieu of not taking 'spoon. Then we might not take Murphy and take Verse instead...So instead of Spoon, Derek Hall, Murphy, we would have Carter, Branch, Verse...ooof.
Agreed. I also love Spoon( I think we all do). But using a 5th overall pick on a guy that weighs 186 pds seems unwise. And the passing on Carter, man, it looks like a sh-t move looking back. Going back years, our high round picks have not been great. Functional, but not good enough. Hopefully Coach Mac will bring the change that is needed.
I wish they would move Spoon to LCB. I get that playing him at slot allows for versatility, but sooner rather than later the pounding he takes there will get to him.
Totally agree about Carter. I love Spoon, but damn, Carter was the best prospect in the draft playing the Position which was our biggest need. And he's a true difference maker.
No one knows how good Carter would on another team that didn’t have two former teammates from the Georgia DL to keep an eye on him, though. That being said, I bet that PCJS would have drafted Carter were they not traumatized by the Malik McDowell fiasco.
Totally agree with both your points! We will never know how Carter would have developed with the Seahawks. And it makes sense to go the safe route with such a high draft Pick, but the upside would have still been intriguing.
Pretty sure Creed Humphrey was dealing with an ankle sprain last night. He's an All-Pro. We passed on him to draft Dee Eskridge when center was a glaring need. All hindsight, sure, but I think a lot of us were flabbergasted with that pick. If Dee was even serviceable and Creed not dominant, it wouldn't have been so bad.
I'm admittedly a homer for 'Spoon, but I'll defend that pick even with Carter performing how he has been and my boy not really improving year 2 in a new system. Witherspoon was electric and lighting up people much larger than him at Illinois and Carter was coming off of a potential vehicular manslaughter charge. Carter was out of shape for the combine and even fatter on his Pro Day "workout," where he didn't workout. We got burned by picking another "immature" yet talented D lineman in Malik McDowell recently enough that was still fresh. And Malik was *exactly* what we needed, but we passed on good players who still are contributing to their teams today. And Spoon could be special. Like Polamalu special if his body stays in one piece. No, I wouldn't wager that he will have a better career than Carter at this point. But I understand their reasoning and cheered the pick.

The Chiefs have so regularly beaten a lesser opponent that had a 4 point lead going into the 4th quarter it isn't even funny.
They remind me of the 2016 Panthers 🤣🤣
Don't forget about the signing of Zack Baun by Roseman.
Another missed opportunity by JS...anyone recall the LBs we signed in free agency?!
One more thing. I was stunned by how ineffective the Chiefs were. I’ve thought about it and all I can think of is that the Eagles’ game plan, preparation and execution was the perfect approach to this game. They had more than the right players.

Passing-wise, I feel like he is as good or a little better. I see him as Jalen Hurts with an ankle sprain and better deep ball.
Super Bowl showed we are light years behind as far as OL and DL in comparison. Last night showed it’s still all about the BIG GUYS UP FRONT
Teams can improve quickly, though, if the FO is aggressive enough and good enough. The Eagles defense has only three starters left from the 2022 SB team.
That's wild; I hadn't heard that. Basically a complete roster turnover in 2 years time?

WORD 😁
The D couldn’t have been too tired—they were on the field for 23:02. One first down in the first half.
Always a contrary take. It was their 20th game of the season/post-season. They were in the final minutes with a lead that allowed them to relax emotionally and physically.
... they absolutely overpowered the AFC Champions for all of these 23:02 minutes.

Great call and I agree.
Hopefully this will be the kick up the ass Schneider needs to really address the IOL
Pretty impressive how the Eagles' lines bullied the Chiefs.
Especially their 4 man rush made it possible because they gave them an unbeatable numerical advantage in coverage.
In conclusion Mahomes had no short passes getting open and they made him running for his life.
I loved it! Watching the Chiefs get punched in the mouth over and over and over, so much fun! Plus we got to see why the Chiefs are still a powerhouse with some nuts quick shots to Worthy. I got what I wanted, a blow out rout of KC. Made most real by dominate defensive and offensive lines.
I couldn't care less about either team. Watched about 5 minutes of the game. I had zero interest
You watched 5 min longer than I did😁, other than if the Seahawks are playing, I have zero interest in the overhyped bowl.
