Pete Carroll Draft Clues: Mock Draft!
Guessing Pete's clues instead of Pete's picks, Seaside Joe 1513
Do Pete Carroll’s annual draft clues ever lead to anything? Is he actually laying out breadcrumbs that could be deciphered like America’s forefathers did for Nicolas Cage? Or is it all just a rouse, a way to keep fans entertained and occupied during the most exciting week of the year for draft fans?
Even after all these drafts with the Seattle Seahawks, the answer is still…maybe? Nobody seems to know.
Perhaps this nugget he dropped before the 2022 draft—”Next Year” by Macklemore—was alluding to the fact that the Seahawks were not going to pick a quarterback of the future that day. A year later, does it imply that Seattle’s now duty bound to select a quarterback on Thursday?
One thing is for sure and that’s with so much draft capital this year, Pete would be remiss to forego an opportunity to have fun with his musical clues in 2023, whether they actually mean something or not. They certainly mean something to him and to the Seahawks fans eagerly anticipating what’s about to come.
Well, Seaside Joe can wait no longer. Today, I’m not mocking who the Seahawks will pick in the draft—not exactly—I’m mocking the clues that Pete Carroll is going to drop this week.
Now it’s up to you: Can you decipher who I picked in this 7-round Seahawks mock draft by unlocking the clues in each of these 10 songs?
I ran a 7-round mock draft and made 10 picks for the Seattle Seahawks and then came up with a musical draft clue that should lead you to the answer of who was selected at each of Seattle’s slots for 2023. While I would not say that any clue is necessarily “easy”, I will say that some of them are more direct than others. Most of them are difficult.
It wouldn’t be a true Pete Carroll draft clues mock draft if they paint by numbers.
I will leave no commentary on any of the clues, I’ll let you browse and figure it out on your own and then we’ll see how many correct answers we have by Tuesday. For all the unanswered clues, I will drop a second musical clue in two days and see if that gets us any closer to completing our Pete draft clues mock draft before Thursday!

Hey a curiosity someone here may be able to address: how do the pre-draft comments for Lamar Jackson compare to Anthony Richardson? Didn’t he have major accuracy concerns although “great athlete”? I seem to recall even questions about him changing positions like to WR?
And questions re his durability given his proclivity to run.
Don’t know why it didn’t occur to me AR might be a more durable Lamar Jackson. All the comps are to Cam Newton but could be Lamar just as easy?
1.5 CJ Stroud Song references the "213", a Los Angeles-area phone code. Stroud was the Elite 11 overall winner the year he competed in it, an event held in LA.
