Pete Carroll is OUT: Seahawks will go head coach shopping!
It's official, the Seahawks have "fired, not fired" Pete Carroll: Seaside Joe 1774
The Seattle Seahawks are not parting ways or firing the “fired up” Pete Carroll, but instead moving him into a new role with the team and will be replacing him as the head coach. In his talks with the media after the Seahawks final game of the season, Carroll maintained that he was expecting to be the head coach in 2024 and excited for the next season with the team, so clearly this was not a mutual decision or part of the plan the entire time.
For the important intents and purposes, the Seahawks fired Pete Carroll as the head coach. In what capactity Carroll will be with the team and maintain control of organizational decisions remains unclear. What’s clear is that Seattle is moving in a different direction at head coach and this means that Carroll is likely only the first of many coaching changes for the Seahawks in the coming months.
The team released this statement from owner Jody Allen:
In the coming weeks at Seaside Joe, I’ll continously cover who is out and which prospective candidates could come in. This news completely changes the tenor of Tuesday’s fan survey on whether or not you would want the Seahawks to fire Pete Carroll, as now the unexpected move has happened anyway. To not miss anything, make sure you are subscribed:
This is not likely good news for Shane Waldron or Clint Hurtt and could even spell doom for John Schneider.
Pete was also Geno Smith’s biggest fan and none of the other 31 teams have expressed that much interest in making him a starter, not even after his Pro Bowl season. Is this a move that’s coming in part because Pete would not make a change at quarterback?
Pete Carroll is in the top-15 all-time in NFL coaching wins, is the most successful coach in the history of the Seahawks organization, and with or without him the franchise won’t be able to change the identity and philosophy he instilled in the team overnight. This is a change, but it’s probably not as big of a change as the ones you will see in Las Vegas, Tennessee, Atlanta, Carolina, L.A., or Washington.
The Seahawks are now competing with those organizations, plus maybe New England, and who knows if more are to come, to hire the best head coach on the open market. Whether that is Jim Harbaugh, Ben Johnson, or Dan Quinn, Seattle’s now in the mix and the Seahawks will be a different team in 2024. Maybe not totally, wholly different. But not the Pete Carroll team.

Who is next?
I’ll be back many times in the coming weeks to talk about that and the immediate future of our favorite football team. Don’t miss it:
Via con Dios Pete. You left a great legacy. Where the Hawks go from here is totally unclear. As is my continued interest in their organization. After more than 20 years, I feel disconnected.
I can Hardly rejoice when someone lose their job. it is traumatic for that person and his family.
Yes, there is some small satisfaction when I commented in a earlier post that this season
Was lost in the preseason.A very talented quarterback was sat on the bench because he lacked
The 5 year experience of a safe, secure Geno Smith.
I was exasperated plus when I heard commentators mention that Geno seemed to getting
better the more he played. No kidding, WOW who would have believed it?!!
The past is the past and Drew is probably gone., As the expression goes, that’s life in the big city.
