Might as well just role all the interior O-line guys into one group. Last year they tried Haynes at center. They tried Richman and Cabeldue everywhere. Who knows what they have in mind for Beau Stephens. The point is, we could see a lot of different combinations and both Olu and Maranges could get passed on the depth chart by someone new at center. Should be fun to watch.
I expect we'll soon have a similar article focused on the defense. The secondary is going to be the most interesting position group to follow this preseason.
I still think Bradford's feet are his biggest problem. In close quarters, he can lock in on a guy and blast away, but if he has to reach at all, in pass pro or in second level run blocking, his feet betray him. He lunges, loses balance and control, and too often ends up on the ground or watching as the play passes him by. Zabel is just far better in these areas, and particularly in grinding away to the echo of the whistle. I'm eager to see more clips of Stephens showing his mobility, but the college stats are good and there is reason to hope.
Like the approach to add strong special teams talent in the late rounds. D. Young was a stud and I was mildly surprised the hawks chose Bobo over him. Rooting for Henderson or a D-back rook to shine as a new gunner.
Bobo is a great influence to get guys to reach for talent not gifted through genetics. Just going from college ball to the NFL speaks to your natural abilities. Getting guys to BELIEVE themselves equal to anybody has shown up especially in our defense's backfield. Our guys have excelled beyond catagorizing themselves as 'back-ups', doing all the Coaches ask of them. Our Hawks are displaying this better than any Team I've seen.
Would be interesting to see if there's evidence Bradford improved towards the back half of the year. What's definitely true is our running game got much stronger, so one could assume so did Bradford. If that's the case, maybe he figured out something and shows it in training camp. Really hoping he does! And then if pricing gets untenable we go to Beau but not a bad thing to have a strong guard in the wings either (not confident Haynes is realiable bench).
His strong side is run blocking. Stopping guys invading the pass is where it gets slippery for him. Benton no doubt got the guys to buy into accomodating this weakness while he develops. Sam will know from where trouble is coming. Our TEs/RBs can decide to block rather than continue their run/pass route. This is Home for Anthony, as it is for all our O-Line guys, money be damned. They win by sticking together. Soon enough, they will be the one needing help. Adding a Rookie is no threat. It's a need every year. Is there a "good enough" standard? No. Get better or get gone.
