This trade changes nothing for the Seahawks. They still start the season at 0-0 with what I think is the best roster in the league.

And next year the Rams will once again not have a first round pick and Garrett will be even older.

FTR, always and forever.

It’s a great acquisition, no doubt, but the risk in the league when you go super top heavy on your cap is straightforward: not being very resilient to injury risk. The healthiest good teams at the end of a season are usually the ones playing at the end of the season. It’s not great for the Seahawks, but it’s also push the chips risk for the rams. Verse is barely into his rookie deal. They lose verse plus cap that could have paid for one or two more good players.

Does this trade change your opinion about the Seahawks’ chances of winning the Super Bowl next season or did the Rams overpay?

NOPE, the Seahawks are still going beat the Rams next season. It's just that the Rams will be better second place team.

Rams consistently make these blockbuster trades. It's really unbelievable and depressing. They significantly upgraded their secondary... and now Garrett?? Shit - now how do MM and Fleury scheme against that?? FFS.

Who’s won more Super Bowls in the last 13 years? Who’s been to more? Let them think they’re the best. We will show them who’s best in week 16.

I hate this so much, but the silver lining is the Rams are selling their future for the now. Their cap is non-existent and they still didn't upgrade the worst special teams unit if the NFL.

Its a slight panic moment for sure, but we found ways to win last year and we can do it again.

100 days to kickoff!

I like your thinking. I’m certain the Seahawks are confident and will focus on what they need to do rather than what the others think they should do.

I guess I don't understand the logic in this trade. (BTW.......where are the Rams harvesting all of these 1st round picks?). They get deeper in debt, a more restrictive cap and give up draft capital for an older (albeit the best perhaps to ever do it), far more expensive player whilst giving up a stud of a pass rusher who's younger, under team control for a bit longer (I think?) and much cheaper.

On the other hand, it seems the Rams are always making moves that appear to mortgage their future........a strapped cap and handling draft picks out like candy and yet......... they keep putting a dominant team out on the field year after year. Kuddos to them, I guess.

With the 5th year option, Verse is under club control for 3 more years. His cost is a small fraction of Garrett’s cost. Garrett is over 30, Stafford is 38. They are making a huge bet they can both stay healthy this year. I don’t think we need the help of an injury to beat the Rams, but it is a possibility an injury will have this Ram’s plan blow up in their face.

Ok........ so I'm not entirely stupid for thinking that perhaps this isn't the most logical, forward thinking move?

The pundits will be all-in on the Rams. The Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks will be underdogs.

Fuel.

Danno's avatar

The Rams were actually already the favorite, and I did not care!

Sea Hawk Run!'s avatar

True. But I think they were a tentative favorite. After this trade, pundits will crown them as undisputed.

The Seahawks will note this disrespect and stack helmets!

Danno's avatar

The Seahawks still do not care!

It makes sense for the Rams to go all in. Stafford can't have much time left in his career and their window is now. The compensation is less than I expected, but I'm fine with us not matching it (if he even wanted to play in Seattle).

Ugh. That hurts. He is an amazing player. I believe he had a no trade in his deal and if so he may have wanted to play in LA.

Sadly he is so good he may have pushed the rams up as favorites to win the division.

Danno's avatar

The Rams were already favorites to win the division. But that’s the result of ignorant “experts” who want LA to win because of the major market and media hub that it is. Guess what MM thinks? He Does Not Care!

Rams did pretty good in the trade. Giving up a 1st in 27, a 2nd in 28, and a 3rd in 29. Getting older. Losing draft capital in next year’s bell weather draft class.

I don’t think the Seahawks will react by trying to sign a big ticket player. I already think they are a 15 win team and will beat the Rams in Seattle in week 16. I had them losing to the Rams before the trade, mainly because we will win the number one seed in week 16 with the win over the Rams. We’re a better team this year vs last year. Our 1st round pick this year will gain over 1000 yards rushing and make a huge difference. The Rams 1st round pick this year will get splinters sitting on the bench. Fleury will have this offense humming before too long and Barner and Saubert will chip Garrett while Cross and Lucas step up and give Darnold a chance to reach 4500+ yards this year and 30+ TDs.
