As I post this, news of the Jaguars signing Jake Bobo. The Seahawks have 5 days to match the offer that Jacksonville gave Bobo. I don't really want to write a full article about it until we know the terms of the deal.

Thoughts on Bobo potentially leaving for Jacksonville?

Bret's avatar

I'd match. He's versatile and reliable. He also doesn't seem to shrink in big moments and will give effort on every play, no matter what the task.

Chris H's avatar

They are trying to do a cheap Super Bowl DNA transfer. I’d like to keep him. The moneys not much in the grand scheme of things.

Bill H's avatar

I really like Bobo, “a Seahawk” for sure…but this will just come down to the $$$…JS has to sign JSN and Spoon, so he will be hoarding $$ to lock those two up…WR4 will not be hard to find w/ last pick or UDFA…younger and cheaper…

zezinhom400's avatar

Sounds like we were willing to give him $3.5-ish on a one-year deal so matching that doesn't seem too exaggerated. Additionally Bobo is a Seahawk, by that I mean he has the edge we value even if mostly on special teams and blocking. Think for that amount I'd vote to keep him

Grant Alden's avatar

From Yahoo Sports...

According to Breer, the Jaguars offered Bobo a two-year, $5.5 million deal. This includes $4.5 million guaranteed with a $1.75 million signing bonus.

Charley Filipek's avatar

That 'n the incentives mentioned by Idaho it Does seem a bit too steep.

IdahoFred's avatar

And $1.5M in incentives (max value = $7M)

Paul G's avatar

My thoughts: Jake, do what is best for you. You left it on the field for us; if another team values that more than the Seahawks, so be it.

Deric's avatar

I need more bobo

IdahoFred's avatar

Gotta see the contract first. Depends on the $$$$. They tendered/offered him initially so they must have wanted to keep him for the right price.

Grant's avatar

It's ok either way. Bobo's departure opens the door for someone new to be the next Bobo. But I'd be really happy to see JS match and keep him around too. I get the impression he's well liked and respected by coaches and players alike, and that's worth a lot. Of course, we fans love more Bobo.

Chuck Turtleman's avatar

I'd prefer we keep him, both for special teams and the likelihood Horton or somebody goes down. He's a good player. For all his physical limitations, you can't deny his hustle. I always thought we should look his way as a red zone target more; he seemed clutch on the rare opportunities he got there.

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

Good for Bobo. Maybe now he'll get clear indicators they will see he gets the ball or go somewhere that will. Last year's lack of touches is one of the big reasons I am glad Kubiak went elsewhere. It's not like he dropped the ball...quite the opposite. The man smells opportunity better than anyone I've watched. Use him, dammit!

Bob Johnston's avatar

Bobo will have more trouble seeing the field on offense in Jacksonville than he would in Seattle. They several decent wideouts.

Ray's avatar

$5M per year to sit on the bench for two years in the Sunshine State sounds pretty good to me.

PNWRider's avatar

I would match. He is a great WR blocker and special teams. The money is just not that much.

Dale's avatar

Nooooooo. Keep Boboooooo!

Scott M's avatar

I was surprised we tendered him at all...he's a great team guy but he's barely one dimensional and easily replaceable. I wish him well he was awesome to have during his time here.

K Man's avatar

Surprising. I'd hope to keep him but you can't overpay for a good special teams, good blocking, number four wide receiver. I could see a scenario where Bobo doesn't make the squad anyway.

Rusty's avatar

Well if he’s gone, then I guess No Mo Bobo.

Bummer from the name perspective. I don’t see him above WR4 with the Hawks.

KHammarling's avatar

How long have I been saying we're going to take an RB early on this year?

I also disagree with the consensus view this is a bad RB class. It's a poor overall class but the RB side is one of the better and deeper elements - most "experts" just continue to disregard RBs skill and value.

There's no slam dunk like a Jeanty or a Bijan. But I think a number of those names listed are better bets than Skattebo was last year, falling into a nice mid-tier talent band you could use week 1 as part of a rotation, i.e. exactly what we want.

This draft is going to be a little odd. The talent drop outside the top8 talents is big. From 20 onwards the differences are small into the 200s. Do you gamble on traits? Or risk a half step of speed for proven reliability? If I'm JS I'm hoping to trade 32 to a team that wants the 5th year in a hit-and-hope pick. Get something around 40 with ideally a 2027 pick. Then snag the bpa regardless of position, which could easily be RB1 or 2 and that would be just an amazing outcome for this team. Better than Edge6 on 1st rd deal that's a worse shot than Mafe was.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Good points, KHammarling. Hope we get a good one

My opinion of drafting Zable hasn't changed at all. I'd be totally OK drafting a kicker in the first round if I knew for sure he'd play for 20 years and go to the HoF when he retired and, so far, Grey Zable is on that trajectory. If he lasts 10 or 12 years, he'll be remembered as one of our best draft picks ever.

Bill H's avatar

The biggest loss in Free Agency was K9. Who knows when Charbs will be ready to play, certainly not week 1…. So JS has to fill that hole…Wilson could be a good piece, maybe RB by Committee in 2026? JS has unearthed good RB’s late in draft and in UDFA, and in trades, the best being Marshawn. I think Grant made an excellent point below when he talked about having RB’s who are more “Thumpers” and “Punishing”, not “skate out of bounds” types. MM wants a physical team and he talks about “Feeling” people, i.e. when members of our team make a physical impact on the game all the time and you just know he loves it when one of our linemen, backs, or LB’s crush someone. Marshawn was the original “Seahawk Thumper” - that is the identity as fans we also love to see. Plenty of time to figure things out….JS will have plenty of talent on hand during pre-season - I, for one, can’t wait!!

Grant Alden's avatar

Closer to last year's draft I wrote something acerbic about solving the damn'd problem and picking Zabel in the first round. It wasn't an original idea -- Zabel was mocked to the Seahawks by all the smart analysts -- but it did go against what we thought we knew about JS. And, even better, it worked.

(I also wouldn't have touched Emmanwori, just to eat of the humble pie, no disrespect meant to Peter Frampton.)

I have a theory about the Emanuel Wilson signing, and I don't think it's particularly about bargain hunting. My memory of K9 is that he used the out of bounds line as an offramp, that he didn't particularly favor sticking a shoulder into a DB and adding another yard to an explosive run. Call it a business decision, and I don't begrudge him that -- it's turned out well. $15-million to play with the best QB in the league? Nice work, and he got it. Good for him.

Wilson isn't that kind of runner. He's a thumper, fights for every inch. That's closer to the identity MM seems to want. Make the other team feel every play. Hit. Play with ferocity. Stay in bounds and run the clock, unless we're behind, because that keeps their D on the field and lets our guys recover, plot, succeed. I wonder if that's what we want the identity of our RB room to look like, if breakaway speed is less important than the regular ability to gash six, eight, ten yards, force the other guys into focusing on the run and leaving the explosive plays to the passing game. (Obviously, I know nothing and could easily be wrong. Probably am, who am I kidding?)

The other thing we cannot know is how the staff feels about the developmental players who didn't see significant snaps next year. Do they believe Cabledue (or even Haynes?) can challenge for the RG slot, so we don't need to draft one, even though we should probably always draft OL and DL. Same with Edge. Less so with CB. Some of that will come into focus after the draft.

So...RB. I think we draft one. I'm not convinced Price is (sorry) right. He's a tick slow, and watching his highlights I'm not convinced he can succeed in the NFL. If we get him at 64, sure, fine, whatever. I'd rather get Coleman at 96, because he's closer to what I think we want. I'm not interested in Washington, what with 10 drops the last two seasons. Couple other guys are small, can't block, have small hands (Seth McGowan, who otherwise I'd love to take a flyer on).

My sense, having spent entirely too much time playing with mocks, is that the most interesting players this year are high-risk depth pieces/projects on day three. I would love to turn one of our picks into a nice handful of picks there, and just take chances. (I have a weakness for this approach, to be clear.) I don't think we can get both quality CB and Edge. We can get one at 32, and after that...it's all down to luck.Middle part of the second round is fun, but I don't think we can get there. Day three is fun. We should be able to get a good enough RB at 96.

Sorry, too long. Been thinking about this too much.

Mike Washington JR. RB from Ark-in-saw looks promising if'n he falls to a later pick. He's got some Rootin' Razorback Grit to him.

Nicholas Donsky's avatar

Something to consider..the average life span of NFL running bscķ is less than 4 years! Any ideas if K9 plays out his 15 mil KC contract,?

Stephen Pitell's avatar

Clutch is a thing. I believe some players have it and some don't. Bobo has it, but was under utilized and if the current OC isn't going to use Bobo, then let him go to the Jags. He has excellent hands, and he's not as slow as advertised, but he is kind of slow. We are committed to three WR's already. JSN, Shaheed and Horton. So he's at best #4. I'm talking myself into letting him go.

Nicholas Donsky's avatar

Largent was also slow!

These are some really helpful references to get a sense of how the RBs in the draft stack up to who we've currently got and what the plan might be. I think that JS is comfortable with our current RB room enough that forcing a draft pick isn't going to happen. For what it's worth, I like Price and Johnson for the Seahawks, as I think they bring skill sets that we're missing with the loss of K9, but I have a hard time seeing them as 2nd round values. I just can't get over the idea that the top two RBs are coming out of the same college program. Maybe that's a dumb reason to doubt Price but it makes me really nervous about spending pick 64 on him, let alone 32. I'd prefer to land Emmitt Johnson at the end of round 3, if he drops, than picking Price a round earlier.

If Cam Akers learned anything about staying in the game after busting himself up making a name, then yeah, let's see what he's got. I see the Great Running Backs as guys who know their body's weak places and are careful not to expose those places to injurious tackles or abuse. K9 showed us he's aware, but then he's gone now. Off my desk. Holani spent some time "resting" and now I want to see if he's learned from it. His Playoff performance seems to indicate he did. No fear in his running. Kenny Mac did seem much more shy after experiencing running with the Big Dogs, so I'm not very hopeful with him. Maybe he just busted things that don't heal well or fast. Charb is just a mystery, even in slo-mo. I expect he'll be hobbled with a brace if he hopes to ever juke with his left leg again. Such is life when competing with Walker for playing time.

PNWRider's avatar

Knowing JS and his history he will see what he can find even if and UDFA. I guess there is no dot and out RB on the board he thinks he can get.

Scott M's avatar

My favorite draft sims I run do not involve getting a RB unless you count Eli Heidenreich as an RB...I think he's a WR. I like trading up early and trading down but also picking as many times as possible before 100-120.

Danno's avatar

I follow Sam Teets and really like what he has to say about linemen. I think Price would be a solid pick at 64, but I would be disappointed in Bisontis at 32 unless all the top edges and CBs were gone. I lean more toward the 3rd round for RB or 4th round if they find a trade partner at 32. I just don’t see Price there at 64 in any of the mocks I ran, and Washington from Arkansas is a more of a posibility at 64. But if the Hawks go CB in round one or early 2nd with a trade back, I’d see if Jacas or Derrick Moore is there at 64. Or Dani Denis Sutton if they pick up an earlier round 3 pick. Trading back will be hard this year unless someone really enticing fall 10-12 spots from projected. And if that person is seen as a round one pick by the Hawks, why would they pass up on him?

I think there’s a chance JS really does feel Holani is a possibility to step up and be effective at RB. He is a better 3rd down back, a decent receiver, a much better blocker than K9. Having him in the backfield on 1st and 2nd down would make passing the ball downfield a better option given his blocking ability. Kenny Mac has flashed, Jacardia Wright is talented but unknown, Wilson had 2 very good games when he got to start (200 yards total for those games) Jones is unknown, Charbs could be back for the playoffs, so maybe we are talking about adding an UDFA and going somewhere else in the 3rd round. WR in round three could be an improvement on Bobo. The big, slow ND receiver whose name I always blank on is similar to Bobo but looks more athletic and strong.

I predict JS trades down (unless Boston falls to them). Vegas has a high second and several Day 3 picks. A trade down for that second, plus a 4th n 5th, sounds reasonable…
