I envie their ability to make their point in so few words. My excitement in looking forward to the new season has paled considerably with these huge contracts signed in the last year. Like them I will be going back to college ball a lot more this fall. I'll watch the Hawks for the new guys as long as I can stand Geno, but my enthusiasm has waned. But I'll hang with Joe and and his commentors. Good writing is always a joy. Texas Hawk since '76.
Looking around Twitter, the general pulse seems to be the this deal is fair, even team friendly. Brock and Rob Staton seemed to allude (Brock outright said) that Russ wouldn’t have taken that deal in Seattle. Seems very high to me considering his age and recent performances.
He wouldn't have because control? Seems the Broncos are letting Russ run the farm while Seattle wanted to have his as part of it.
I know many are looking for faults, but football's a business. Not to us--it's entertainment, sports. But for Russ it's his life. His chance to make his splash.
It's why I've leaned very heavily into Pete's first presser about his philosophy. The Seahawks wandered a bit from who they were to accommodate Russ.
Now he's a really good QB so it's understandable.
But Pete realized his value is for the whole team. It's not about one guy dominating...both importance and cap.
Now Denver is allowing Russ to run things, and Pete has a QB that's just a guy, and we'll see who does the best.
Maybe they both find success? That'd be fine.
I like Pete's model overall. Especially if you draft a quality guy like Russ was. You can have a great team, and the QB really matters, but a defender can win the SB MVP and it's good (even though it probably should have been Cliff that won it).
I totally agree. I was going to say Cliff or Kam, but when Kam hit D Thomas coming across the middle, that game was over, over done with. Period...ed of story.
Cliff hit Manning's arm on the throw Smith intercepted. He was in the backfield all game.
Had he not got hurt and gone out of the game, he was doing the same thing next year and Seattle would NOT have lost to the Patriots.
The Richard in me says praise Jesus that bronco fans are about to find out what we all know . Russ is a very very good QB but he’s not 47 mil good and that ever growing persona is not going to age well if he does not deliver .... The season will be fun for us . Get to watch the growth of the young ones and if we can gel by end of season will be fun playing spoiler ..... off season also will be fun with loads of arguments about who we draft and where #edge #WR #Grayson #center #LetsFlyHawks 🤦🏻♂️😂
If there’s any player for the Broncos who is motivated by Russ coming in and adding that massive contract to an already exploding ego I would love to see him come forward! 🤣🤣
One could write a dissertation on the salary cap itself. On how it's changed the fabric of the game. And on how the game of football reflects, reinforces and corrupts American culture. Reflections of some of the best parts of our culture but also the worst. It's hard to watch without a healthy degree of cynicism, charming though it may be when the narcissistic superstar without a dime's worth of intellectual depth thanks Jesus for his great fortune, his insatiable ego fed for a moment, though he'll continue to build an ever larger empire while our rain forests burn.
One more bonus of Russ going to the Broncos is that Hawks fans won't have to deal any more with demands or rumors of Russ being dissatisfied and wanting to be traded.
Thank you Jesus for granting me an absolute shit ton of money and not sharing it with anyone else, including my team mates who not only earn a fraction of what I do, but also very likely to have a career a fraction of the length of mine. Because it was you working in mysterious ways, I am justified in all of my disingenuousness and naked greed.
Wondering how eager those lower paid players will be to take the broken bones, torn ligaments, and concussions trying to protect the one who thinks everything is his. I seriously doubt the rest of the Broncos are high-fiving each other saying how great it is Russ is being paid so much with no proof he's earned it.
I loved Russ coming to the Hawks. He was a really good college player with a 3rd round chip on his shoulder that really motivated him. I loved him on the field, and greatly appreciated him off the field. His focus was intense, and his skills improved.
Then he became a brand. He stopped being the franchise QB, and started becoming A franchise.
The divided devotion showed up on the field. He had the skill set to still be very good, but he lost that hungry edge that makes guys great. Russ' robotic affect at the mic went away as he grew his brand, but his game on the field became robotic, and it was easy to game plan. Especially in a division with another QB who wants to do the same thing (Murray).
Brady somehow kept it. Maybe Russ should have been a 6th rounder instead of a 3rd?
It creates a template for drafting and developing a QB as they move forward though. You get a guy that's a 'gym rat' for the game that loves it more than the bright lights, and a guy you don't have to write into his contract 'study film.' Accuracy and mobility are NOT overrated!
Mahomes strikes me as a guy that continues to improve his craft.
I'm very glad the path the Hawks have taken, and they'll draft a QB in '23 looking to return to the big stage. I think the ship is pointed in the right direction.
$165 large guaranteed is the only thing that is surprising about the contract, given the 100% guarantee Watson got and Wilson's agent's Baseball background. But... good luck with that, Broncos!
I will say right now the Seahawks W-L record in 2025 will be substantially better than the Broncos. Will the Broncos get to the SB in the meantime with Wilson to make it 'worth it'? Making it to the playoffs out of their own division is going to be tough.
Just once I would like to hear Wilson thank Jesus for him having the worst game ever instead of constantly taking the blame himself. He had so many opportunities to do that last season!!
IIRC, the beginning of Wilson's downturn started right after his $142M contract. It will be interesting to see how that $245M will motivate him. He's under great pressure to prove himself this season.
I’m thrilled that Seattle is not paying this contract. We have spent years watching the Seahawks be good, but not good enough. It certainly wasn’t Wilson’s fault and I’m not going to disparage him here. This fan is happy to be on a different path with new and exciting possibilities!

Spilt milk. Oh well.
I agree about Kam!

Wait until Russel finds out the 165M guaranteed is in Walmart gift cards.....
Replacing Gabe Jackson with Quenton Nelson?! Absolutely Love this Idea
They should! They even technically could! But they won't...

Thank You, Goodbye.
I sure want Russ to have a similar trajectory to Manning with the Broncos. Especially losing badly in the Super Bowl to the Seahawks.

Wanker.

'Seahawks 2022 How Good Can it Get?'
We'll find out, Gerald! Better yet, how good can 2023 get?

He's got a lot of people he needs to please, from the Broncos fans, to the new owners!

very exciting to have opened the door to a rookie QB
