Seahawks fans respond to Russell Wilson trade: "I'M SO PISSED RIGHT NOW!!"
The reaction from Seattle couldn't be more clear
Following the massive news on Tuesday that the Seahawks are trading Russell Wilson to the Broncos for a cache of draft picks and players, I put out one of Seaside Joe’s classic surveys and never before have I ever had such an immediate and overwhelming response.
I guess that should come as no surprise: The Seahawks actually did it. They actually traded Russell Wilson.
If you want to frame it in the most colorfully positive way possible then please think of today’s news like this: How many NFL teams in history can say that they managed to turn a third round pick into two first rounders and two Super Bowls?
But while the instant reaction to the haul from the Broncos (two firsts, two seconds, a couple of really interesting players, and a quarterback bridge) has been fairly positive, the fact that Seattle is parting with Wilson can’t be misunderstood or misrepresented: the vast majority of Seahawks fan clearly hate this news and they’re seething like the woman in Clue.
I asked the following question:
How happy are you with the fact that the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson under any circumstances?
On a 1-5 scale, with 1 being “I’M SO PISSED” and 5 being “I’M SO HAPPY”, the immediate response is crystal clear: 33-percent of Seahawks fans answered with a ‘1’ and only 4-percent have answered with a ‘5’—and that is on a perfectly sliding downward scale like so:
These are EXTREMELY EARLY poll results but I can’t think of any reason why it is going to change dramatically. You can still get in on on the voting action to make your voice heard on this answer and four more questions. The survey takes less than two minutes to complete and I know you are FEELING YOUR FEELINGS right now—don’t miss the chance to speak your mind on the biggest Seattle Seahawks news… in history?

Long Live Russ! Great QB and a better man. I hate to see him go.
But it's a business, winning is the goal. The Hawks did not have the complementary pieces to win in '22 & '23, Russ' last 2 (large) contract years. Time to reload!
PC & JS played "win now" after the 2014 Super Bowl. To "win now", they traded draft picks for good pending free agents, most of whom left for better pay. Hawk core got older, Bobby & Russ contracts take a lot of cap space. Hawks had to scrimp, especially on O line. Russ paid the price. Especially the last 3 seasons, even if not sacked, even if he got rid of the ball, opponents made sure he got "touched" on nearly every pass play. There's a cumulative effect: Russ got slower, wanted to be a pocket passer. Hawks literally can't afford to buy Russ an O-line pocket.
For 2022, with few picks and many D & O needs, PC & JS know they can't win EVEN with Russ. "Win now" didn't work, they know it's time to rebuild ground up.
This means BWags and some pending FA's are gone too. All we can do is hope the drafts, side trades and any compensatory picks add up to a dynamic competitor in 2023.
They have to rebuild now or later?
