When the Seahawks “upset” the Denver Broncos in Week 1, it gave fans a glimpse at what could potentially come of the draft picks headed to Seattle in 2023. Most people viewed the Broncos as fringe playoff contenders with only a low-percentage shot at the first rounder being in the low-20s or early 30s, like the one that the Detroit Lions received in 2022 for Matthew Stafford from the Rams. But after Denver rebounded to win their next two games and featured the number one defense after three weeks, Seahawks fans didn’t get their hopes up for a pick higher than Seattle’s own selection.

The Broncos haven’t just been bad, they’ve been cursed. Or they’ve just been bad.
But for any Seahawks fan who reads this and thinks, “Ah, this type of news is not for me, I’m just here for the professional team as is!” let me make this pitch to you: Aside from Week 18’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, nothing could be more important than the 2023 NFL Draft. Not only are the Seahawks adding a new class of players to the team, but Seattle has only made seven top-five picks EVER, only one top-five pick since 1997, and two of those players are in the Hall of Fame: Kenny Easley and Cortez Kennedy.
The top-five is also where the Seahawks found Curt Warner and Shawn Springs. And assuming Seattle keeps their top-five pick, that rookie player will immediately become one of the highest-paid players on the entire roster.
We are on a collision course with one of the biggest moments in franchise history in April.
Denver’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday was their 11th defeat in their last 13 games. At 4-12, the Broncos are one more loss from either sending the number two or number three pick back to the Seahawks, as well as a top-three pick in the second round that is essentially a fringe first rounder. Denver has lost three games in overtime, two games by one point, one game by three points, and two more games by a touchdown.
Leave no doubt that a 32nd-ranked scoring offense is worthy of a last place finish, but as the Minnesota Vikings sit at 12-4 with a -19 scoring differential, it is hard to not feel as though the Seahawks got blessed this year.
The Seahawks could end up getting the number two pick if the Broncos lose to the Chargers in Week 18 and if the Chicago Bears defeat the Vikings. Or they could get the number three pick if the current records hold. Or if the Broncos win and the Cardinals lose to the 49ers/Colts lose to the Texans, Seattle could end up getting pick four or pick five.
But it will be a top-five pick in the first round and a top-five pick in the second round, in addition to their own first and second round picks.
