I definitely see a better D on Seattle this year. If They get an improved O-line they should be able to get to a 10 win season. Be a good start for new coach.
Thank you for this. In all honesty, this feels like the premium shite I want to read and pay for. I realize each team was dealt with in general terms, but now I feel like I have an understanding of the major challenges facing them. Everybody got stuff to deal with.
The Hawks feel like a new team now. And that is cool.
The Jets are more of a reality show than a NFL team. They may turn out to be good, but there are so many egos and divas, I expect them to fail spectacularly and for the whole thing to be torn apart next offseason.
In general, a team wants to play its hardest games at home and easiest games on the road. This lineup is split—I see five tough home games and four tough road games. Winning 5-6 of those likely means a 10-12 win season. Not to jump the gun or anything!
I for one am not buying the hype around the 9ers (or Bengals) trading away a quality player that they drafted and developed when said player is a key part of their route to the Super Bowl. Trading away your best players is the kinda thing we make fun of the Panthers for.
Kenneth - where do the Seahawks get the money to pay for Geno’s 17 million dollar cap hit when he is traded to the Bears? They need to clear the money before the trade. Also the Bears are paying 12 plus million for 6 to 8 games?
Seahawks trade up for Maye - balls move. What does it cost - 3 first plus DK. 3 firsts plus 2 seconds. Big risk for both teams if Maye turns out to be great (he is Danny’s type) then the Patriots will be haunted by the trade. If Maye busts the Patriots own the draft until Manning comes out and Pete gets the last laugh as the Seahawks return to the bottom of the NFL with the Broncos. But seriously the guy who baby sat you and now competes against you calls up and says he has a great deal for you - You doing it? Best rumor out there Penix is not falling out of the top half of the draft (he is currently not invited to the green room) does that mean the Seahawks are taking him?
This is what I hope the Hawks do Thursday if Penix is gone. Trade 16 for a 1st in the mid 20s and a high 2nd and then draft ( in no particular order) the best players available at LB. Safety and C/ G. and go for sleepers and depth in the later rounds . QB Rattler is my sleeper in this draft
I don't care what the Rams do in the draft or free agency... they lost Aaron Donald so they're worse in my book and until proven differently I think they'll be a lot worse.
Totally agree, SJ blew this one. You don't lose the best defensive player in the NFL with no performance drop. I think a major reason Wilson wanted out of Seattle was he didn't have to see Donald at least 2x per year.
I think you are right on about the D. But I had the same thought about Stafford last year when he was actually coming back from an injury. Stafford reminds me a little of Brady in that Brady was always on the injury report but it never seemed to affect his on-field performance. Stafford is like that, too.
The J-E-S-T--"Aaron Rodgers is back" should come with a "?" since he makes it back but for how long? I would not trust him to be the season-ending QB with the Jets.
Just focusing on the NFCW--the Niners for sure will be on the "Superbowl losers" track and will not likely finish first in the NFCW this year because of that. LA is the most likely beneficiary. Arizona... I know Kyler has his fans but he is another guy that I don't think is capable of leading a team through a full season successfully. They may start of fast and fade as has become their pattern. Seattle is a real wild card--with all the changes in coaching and personnel, it is difficult to see how the Seahawks will be hitting on all cylinders until at least midway through the season, if then. Improvement on D, beat the Niners at home and overall split their games in the NFCW and that would be a successful season for me.
I wouldn't worry about the competition, rather than focus on BEING the competition. Let them worry. But it is good to prep on where they wish to strengthen things. As for Rogers and the Jets, they will do well to bring Aaron in after half. Let the young guy go out and define what needs to be done. Let age and treachery prevail. Oakland did this with Stabler and old George Blanda back in the early 70's. Kenny would see everyone beat the crap out of each other and tire out, then bring in Blanda for the close in the 4th quarter. It was the start of the 2 minute offense. Plus Blanda was their field goal kicker, getting them where they needed to be.
I wonder what the reaction would be to that today lol! Brady is in the news showing off his body and hinting at un-retiring. He would be a great candidate for the Blanda treatment--let him play the last four minutes of the half and the 4th quarter lol!
The big early takeaway is - we could be facing a lot of rookie QB's! And, somehow, Zach Wilson (I believe, again, the Jets will self destruct very very quickly).
Glad we're finally into Draft Week (well, within 7 days). Now i can feel like my quoting of Draft Day is relevant, and not just self indulgent.
The thing is, if you subscribe to the notion that Seattle’s defensive players are better than the way they played in 2023, and that McDonald will get that out of them, then Seattle could be a lot better since the offense could get one or two addl at-bats (bc fewer opponent 8-min drives), which could make them a lot better independent of the draft.
What I’m saying is the coaching variable on the Hawks may be as or more impactful than the players variable
I hope you are right. With the limited practice time teams have these days though I wonder how much progress will be made in introducing a totally new D scheme AND a new OC. If I had to put money down on the Vegas over/under of 7.5 wins now (I don't do any sports betting) I would likely pick the under and be happy if I lost money on the bet. I am expecting a lot of close losses and maybe by game 12 we are starting to see what the Seahawks will become under MM.
I think this realization is why the coaching staff wasn’t at the combine. Prob a bunch of “voluntary” Zoom meetings going on all this time as they try to get everyone up to speed. And the intensity and commitment that all the players are commenting about McDonald is prob related to this, so much to do. But you’re right, it will be a race against time. He did make an immediate impact in Baltimore including with a rookie (Hamilton) so I am hopeful, but that’s probably more optimism than reality
Mack is "known" for finding a player's strengths and designing around that. Imagine a new coach sitting one-on-one with every player asking what they see as their strengths and how we could best apply them, then follow through. You will no doubt pick up some gems and raise Morale. Win-Win.
Yes, it could happen (by "it" I mean all come together really quickly) but the odds are that there will be more than a few "growing pains" for both the staff and the players adapting to new coaches and schemes.
The hockey team I follow--Vancouver--missed the playoffs last year but with a new coach and some new players (but largely the same core) won their division and finished 2nd in the Western Conference. Quite the turnaround--so it can hppen, but hockey is so much more contained than football.

HOME: Cardinals, Niners, Rams; Bills, Broncos, Dolphins, Giants, Packers, Vikings
AWAY: Cardinals, Niners, Rams; Bears, Falcons, Jets, Lions, Patriots

A lot of ex-Seahawks on that list.

I was sure the Rams would suck LAST year but Stafford is just that good and McVey somehow builds a successful offense from scraps.
I think the success of LA's newcomers on the D-line was due to Donald's presence. I think a marked sophomore setback is due.
But yes, McVey is a very good offensive coach but Stafford is 36 years old and has a bad neck. I'll be amazed if he makes it through the season.

Thats why I was a raiders fan back then....
Agree, other than I want more hard games at home.

Good catch on the last 4 minutes of the 2nd!

SF will be worse, and that is about all that matters. The rest... who knows? Until proven otherwise, I'm planning on a win or two in the playoffs.

From what I’ve heard, he doesn’t like “Mack”.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast….
…and among the fan bases of 32 NFL teams in April 🤣
