Which player on the Practice Squad 1.0 will play the most snaps for the Seahawks in 2025?

I agree one of the big nose tackles. Murphy is not Superman and getting double teamed by 2 320 pound offensive lineman will wear anybody out

Just to offer a non-DT name (even though I kinda wonder if Anthony Campbell's good early preseason and practice work make him more valuable than Pili's 1 flashy play), I'm going with Shemar Jean-Charles. Since we just cut Shaq and Kendrick had BETTER not see any snaps without a kicker present, I wonder if SJC fills in at CB at some point for injuries or is just better at coverage than Pritchett.

I see the logic there for corner.

I’m going with Pili.

I have no real evidence other than (a) his end zone TFL for a safety, (b) seems the line in front of Martinez is longer, and (c) I really like his name.*

* C might have been the main reason, but I had to look more logical than just giving that reason. 😄

Bohanna or Martinez might end up getting some snaps...but it's all about opportunities opening up.

I’m gonna go with Pili or Bohanna. Big boys in the middle.

It'll probably be largely injury driven, so difficult to predict. I'll cheat and change the question to, who will get the most call-ups, and I'd guess Martinez, Pili, or O'Connell. Whether they get significant snaps or not is another question. If they do, somethings gone pear shaped. But it's the NFL. Things will go pear shaped at one point or another during a long season.

I love that Mike was true to his word and kept 'our guys' on the practice squad, so they can keep developing them in the same system.

My thought was more semi-related to your re-write of the question, which is which of these players do you think has the best shot at a legitimate career on the 53 in the near future. A guy like Pili being more likely than a guy like Tyus for example.

LB Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr. is signing with the #Seahawks. The former Rams fifth-round pick, a move their fans weren’t happy about, will give Seattle more depth at inside linebacker.

Per post on X.

Ready Squad ROCKS!! Congrats to the last players to make the Seahawk seventy! To make a team in the NFL is a reward these young men have worked very hard for. What a great opportunity to learn, get better at their craft and maybe become one of those great players who started their journey on the 'Ready Squad'. Overlooked by some, they are critical to the success of the Hawks...and even if they never make a 53, it's a great first job after college and something they will tell their grandchildren about someday. GO HAWKS!

Who would I like to see get the most call ups? Ivey. Ivey's gonna shake our world, LOL.

Isn't Ivey on the 53? So no need for call ups for him.

OMG, I will now take my foot out of my mouth. Thanks for pointing out I have intermittent idiot syndrome.

What I meant to say, sigh, is that Ivey is the guy who I would like to see given some significant playing time.

I’m watching the Saturday morning inspection video again. Ivey looks so much bigger than everyone else. It’s like when Cam Newton was at auburn. Would love to see it translate.

Why have Bobo returning kicks and punts? Without speed, the best he might do is get us to a decent spot on the field. Is MM changing the focus for returns?

Randall Murray's avatar

Bobo would be emergency PR. KR he’s #2 or Young. I think Horton is like Tyler’s rookie year. PR/KR and X deep ball WR. I could see Bobo with more offensive play snaps than Horton. Bobo better blocker.

Cutting Shaq. He was decent last year better than the guy they picked up from the Rams based on their PFF scores. Shaq when he was in the game against Green Bay I noticed he’s lost a lot of speed. Perhaps that had something to do it.

I am still concerned about the lack of a true proven nose tackle

Seems like our staff may have been fairly concerned about the special teams play in the preseason... adding ST guys that are suspect on scrimmage downs while cutting guys who are better than them at scrimmage downs but don't offer much on ST. Those big runbacks may have lit a fire

PNWRider's avatar

I am hoping it was just going through a lot of different people on special teams. Because they did not look good at all.

Randall Murray's avatar

One thing to remember almost all ST except returners, are guys not making the squad. Now we have roster, a guy like Young is ST gunner vs starting WR in preseason game. Guys like Young and Russell didn’t need ST reps.

I agree. Your 4th string corner is going to see way more special teams snaps than defense.

Absolutely GREAT PS. picks. Most snaps... Pilli and Martinez. They must have seen something in Kendricks that they can work with. Age got to Grif.

I think they are concerned a bit about being run, centric, walkers, injury, history, and being in the situation they were some years back when they had to bring back Lynch for a couple of games

Pete's depleted O-Lines were hard on running backs, as they had to bust open their own running lanes too often. I use the year you reference as evidence. Seems to me Pete would find money for "skills" players using the O-Line budget. No doubt the Big Men were getting "concerned". As we saw, our 1st team O-Line opened holes wide for Charbs against KC. Injuries should be minimal? Hope so...

There’s the 70 roster and then there’s the 70 + “ghosts” roster. I’ve never tracked it, but it feels like 8-10 guys will rotate in and out, depending on injury trends and weekly scouting team needs.

It makes sense to have a Rolodex practice squad, so the team can coach up a bigger group of contingency players.

“We’re letting you go. For now. Don’t go far from your phone. In the meantime, work on these three skills and focus on these exercises for conditioning… See you in a few weeks, depending on how things go…”

Yeah, could be a good graphic to create for players who bounce in and out of the practice squad every year.

Totally. Him and Holani also show to young guys that are marginal at the NFL level, that even making PS, and keep working at it, it’s possible to make the big league. The quote from Cody needs to be framed. Love what Hawks have done. Bummed about Reed. He was all pro ST rookie season and then injury and was never the same. But gotta live Okada Holani and White. Winning attitudes help win.

Happy indeed!! Was delighted to see Pili made it through, also Bohanna and O'Connell, Jerick Reed and Jamie Sherif, pretty much everyone I was worried about.

Does sorta piss me off that our team wasn't really raided much. In general our roster is disrespected and I certainly hope all of this is up on a clipboard somewhere in the locker room

I thought we might have been done with Sataoa Laumea, he struggled quite a bit in preseason games, and we have Haynes with a minor injury on IR, he’ll be back. I’m guessing they are not thrilled with Risner. We need quick development from Cabeldue and Richman.

Very few players have climbed out of the ground after practice squad a la Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill, but it does happen.

Okada has done it seemingly, and I believe he could start on many teams. He always had the speed and quickness.

Seaside Joe's avatar

What I'm about to say is not a reflection of Okada, he could be something. I'm just going to add that the initial 53-man roster is a milestone for sure. It's often also a bit of a mirage. We have seen countless Seahawks emerge from practice squad to being on the 53-man roster at one point or another and then kind of fade away.

Some similar examples: Myles Adams, Dee Williams, Cody Thompson, Kyu Blu Kelly, Penny Hart, Kyle Fuller, Isaiah Dunn, Joey Blount, Josh Jones (S), Jordan Simmons, Anthony Rush, Linden Stephens...

Not saying none of those guys never got any licks in, but probably a little more hyped when they made the roster than what actually happened. On the flipside maybe you have a guy like DJ Reed. If you're lucky, you could get a couple of useable years like Jacob Hollister.

Ty Okada, Cody White, Drake Thomas, Jared Ivey, Connor O'Toole, Nick Kallerup..I'm rooting for you guys.

Depth at guard is not as dire as it seems. They can slide Sundell to guard and insert Olu if needed.

Exactly. Posted that elsewhere. Plus Caledbue played both L and R during preseason and Richman some C snaps. Other than Cross and probably Olu, every other OLine is versatile.

Kendrick has Special Teams value and Griffin does not anymore. If you are going to be deeper than 2nd on the depth chart, you need to play special teams. Especially if the Seahawks are going to keep 3 QBs on the active roster
