JS has multiple ways to get cap relief, and make the available space even better. New deals for JSN and Spoon shouldn't really add that much to the 2026 cap, as he could just add years and not add a lot of new money to the 2026 base, other than the proration on the signing bonus. There are ways to do both deals without chewing through much of the available cap. But I think he'll start with the FA's he wants to keep first, before looking at extensions.
I think one thing to consider is the minimum cash spending required for 2026 to meet the 90% cash spending requirement for the current 3 year period. The Seahawks have the 2nd highest number behind the Rams at 267 million needed by the end of this league year to meet those requirements.
I would be shocked if the Hawks did anything but sign Hall to the longest term contract he will sign. When I watch him, I am always impressed with his strength and agility. He's a keeper.
As for Big Cat I was expecting maybe “retirement” but I didn’t know he was only 31. Wow!!! Yeah love to extend him. JReed still a stud older. Small thing though. Hayward was DE then moved inside. Interesting that Williams is listed as 15 lbs heavier. Man I like our DLine.
Crap I meant to be a contrarian and AB has 20% of the vote. I didn’t expect that. Oops. Of that group, no one clearly stands out. Not sure any worth much of an extension. Had Charbo not gotten hurt then yes.
“But if John Schneider sticks to his typical policy of not extending players with multiple years left on their contracts (JSN and Witherspoon would have two with the fifth-year option) then it’s going to be a long wait for that news.”
Schneider said shortly after the SB that the Seahawks do not regard the fifth year option as applying to this policy. This was in response to a question about extending JSN and Spoon. So, according to team policy, both are eligible for an extension.
Interesting and I think JSN might actually read SSJ. He also said that he feels he should set the market but also he’s in no hurry to do so. He knows his value.
I believe it would be the kind of clusterpuck JS is not even capable of to not extend JSN and Spoon sooner rather than later. The impact (AND price) of both these young dawgs will only get bigger with time.
I voted for our future HoF guard, Anthony Bradford as the most likely to be resigned, but I don't even know why. Maybe he'll drop 30 pounds and learn to Tap Dance. Maybe.
Olu Olu is the guy I'm most disappointed with. He's big, strong, comes from a power school, has won awards, and just isn't very good. I'm sure he'll be a great High School PE teacher and assistant coach somewhere in West Texas, but he won't be getting any second contract offers in the NFL.
Y'all, WE WON THE SUPER BOWL WITH BRADFORD AT RG! (Sorry to shout, but I'm starting to feel like someone needs to look out for the big fella.) (Next thing you know I'll be taking up for Riq...)
Point being, I doubt we'll spend a draft choice to replace him...because his replacement, hopefully, is already on the team. And so (quickly turning on myself like a dog with fish stink on his tail) I don't think he'll be resigned. And I still think he's in the wrong system.
I agree. I don't hate on the big fella, but he's not an ideal fit in this unit. I think he does enough things well where they can make it work, but he's not optimal in this system. All you have to do is watch Zabel's feet after the snap, and AB's. Two different worlds.
Yeah, that’s kind of the key. If you’re running outside zone, even a little, Zabel is a creature built to do that job. AB is not. So that’s not his fault, he’s just not that mobile, and the problem is that he’s not even that mobile in the phone booth (remember those?) match of pass pro, either.
I put in a vote for AB too. Let’s appreciate his strength and the value of continuity. JS should be able to resign him for a moderate amount of cash.
That said, we should see him as a borderline starter. He might get beat out and be a depth player. That’s where he should be graded: marginal starter/excellent depth.
Since he started all year, we can assume that John Benton values having a strength player at RG for short yardage situations. I think he gets paid - modestly.
I believe JS said in his interview with Pat McAfee a while back that he really wants continuity on the O line.
All of our offensive linemen get beaten at times. Just like linemen on all other teams. Bradford doesn’t get beaten like a drum, and he makes plenty of good plays. It just that when he misses, it’s often “spectacular” and often comical (in hindsight).
I voted for him but he shouldn’t be given a “starter” level contract. He is last of 5. I’ve been his biggest defender on here but it should be a position at this stage of competition. Abe Cross and Zabel all set. AB only signed if reasonable. I want best at RG and it may not be AB.
From what I read, Olu is fine technically but not especially strong or athletic and doesn’t have any explosiveness off the line. Because he knows how to play the position and has decent size, Olu likely will have a nice career as a backup.
Astute Paul. And a lot of guys have done well doing exactly that. Spot filler. A “mini-coach” for rookies. If his head is on straight, nothing wrong playing this game making even backup money and getting a Ring, this is special.
I suspect this down time is spent getting stronger. Benton strikes as zero-bulsht kinda guy. If there is no future, he'll tell you and if there is, he'll outline it. The Sciences behind strengthening is making huge strides. Sundell can go down at any time. It happens he's one tough character, getting hurt and still doing his work at a high level. Olu knows he's one injury away from being a Starter, so long as he excels. I expect colleges are busy getting up to speed, especially those up north.
I don't think there's a middle ground universe for Hall. He's too young to settle, and he must know that a solid season will make him one of the top free agents this time next year.
If I was JS I would extend Myers for 2 years only if they can’t get another kicker that’s good as Myers in a lean draft. Spoon and JSN are not going anywhere and he probably has started talks.
Lock I don’t see as a starter except the Vikings I would give a call to and look for a cheaper Vet. Lock is a good backup so he has a lot of value as such.
Jalen Milroe? I am unimpressed. Ability but seems to lack feel for the game.
Hall = Taylor and they let him walk.
Zach had a bad injury so how he comes back is questionable. That’s why I’m not in favor of giving Walker a big deal that somebody else probably will running backs just don’t last that long.
Wow dude you are way off base putting Hall at Taylor’s level. No way. Hall can defend run and occasionally the pass. He is super strong and rocks giant LTs which is not common. He may not get massive sack numbers but he’s light years ahead of Taylor.
Right now we have a terrific QB room. And it's not breaking the bank. Lock may want a chance to start somewhere, but he may also realize his limitations. And, hey, sitting on the bench of a good team collecting a nice paycheck...and not getting hurt...that doesn't suck.
We are one missed block (yeah, I know I was just defending AB upstream) from losing Darnold for all or part of a season. Same as with any player. We're only as good as our backups, as solid as the worst player we put on the field. We can win with Lock, who knows the system and the personnel. He was my vote to resign, even though I hope we never need him. Look at what has happened to other good teams when their starting QB has gone down.
Only way I let him go is if Milroe gives us something to brag about (and that's a Willie Nelson song, so you know I'm serious).
Let's expect to see Lock explode onto the field. All he'll need is a fairly solid O-Line. He was giddy during this Super Bowl. The stars are aligning...
Follow the money! I'm guessing value is king. JS will keep us competitive. MM will lock them in. As soon as ngs puts out their draft numbers I can speculate on JS draft decisions...soon hopefully.
Lenard Williams needs to be compensated period. Figure it out and get it done. He is in my opinion the leader of our Defense. He is a tone setter type player. All the coaches and players known his role too. He is the Alpha Dog in the Pack! Make him a high priority!

AB has looked like the weak link on the line. Sign him on a team friendly for depth otherwise let him walk.
I would be shocked if the Hawks did anything but sign Hall to the longest term contract he will sign. When I watch him, I am always impressed with his strength and agility. He's a keeper.
FWIW, Mike Dugar says that Hall is a beast as a run defender.

Thanks! I’ve seen them come and go, for sure.
Didn’t Olu start a game or two? Wasn’t consensus that he was fine?
He did ok. Some good snaps, and some less so.
I suspect this down time is spent getting stronger. Benton strikes as zero-bulsht kinda guy. If there is no future, he'll tell you and if there is, he'll outline it. Remember the game the league made Hall sit out, JS wore his jersey on the sidelines.
If I was JS I would extend Myers for 2 years only if they can’t get another kicker that’s good as Myers in a lean draft. Spoon and JSN are not going anywhere and he probably has started talks.

I assume John will resigned big old number 75.

If nothing else, Hall is an excellent run defender. Taylor would visit Pluto before he’d tackle a running back.
lol. :-))) often seemed like would be lead blocker for opposing RBs!

Pay the man...he is "old man strong" and what he has between his ears makes him a nightmare for O-lines. His best is yet to come.
I agree with you - I think LW can be a difference maker deep into his 30’s.
Men with that size, athleticism, passion, and smarts are rare and precious.
He hated being stuck on 2 crappy NY Teams and loves and appreciates what he has in SEA!!
Keep that Alpha Dog as long as he can play winning FB!!
Big Leo brings the Happy Face. J.Reed brings the Law.
Came to say JReed is the defensive leader as well. Hes got the respect and leads by example. Williams is “Happy Face”. Love that.
