Thanx go out to SSJ and the Joe Bros for getting me up to speed on all-things to do with contracts and financing. I'm still far from comprehending the Big Picture, but will continue my education as SSJ adds to it. My hope is our Guys are determined to stay with us in our journey to a 4-peat.

I hope you're proud of this article Joe, it kicked ass!

It was awesome to read, from dismantling Trent Williams whining to transitioning to salary cap issues! I hope this gets read far and wide.

Thanks!

I wonder if Trent Williams’ comments reflect a darker truth: Niners have less of a team spirit than Seattle. Williams basically throwing the “lesser” Niners under the bus. Am thinking of the attitudes of guys like Jennings and Lenoir too.

Grant's avatar

That was my takeaway too. If you were a free agent pickup, practice squad player, or backup on this team, how are you supposed to feel about your all-pro teammates after that comment? Just a terrible thing to say from one of your veteran leaders.

You made me curious so I looked it up, SF is 20th in avg age so on the “old” half of the league. Mr. Williams being a key contributor to that side of the ledger: 26.24 yrs is the median. Bosa 28, Warner 29, Kittle 32, McCaffrey 29, Purdy 26, Aiyuk 27 to mention their stars and $164m of collective cap space this year (next two on their cap table are Lenoir and Jennings who haven’t sniffed a Pro Bowl. Juskzyc (?) btw is 34….

Also a curiosity: how have we gone from 3rd youngest a few weeks ago to now tied for 4th with the Bengals (since presumably everyone ages at exactly the same pace)? Is it that teams no longer playing have had contracts expire?

My mental health therapist wife would say he is in denial and struggling with the reality of the situation. I think it must be hard to know you just got put down like a rabid rodent that never had a chance.

The beat down of the 49ers left me with an impression and a question. After I had enough time to let the whole thing soak in it started to feel like the LOB days. Seems like we got here sooner than I expected.

Given how completely the hawks played the game, I began to wonder what if any personnel moves the team might want to make in the off season.

Rozone's avatar

So far this weekend, the team in the white jerseys are the ones who lose the game.

Rozone's avatar

I sure hope the Bears beat the Rams. Puka Nacua needs to be knocked down a peg.

Charley Filipek's avatar

So far, Puka Nacua has 3 receptions on 7 targets, 2 1st Downs, 9 yds a reception, 3 yds a target. Not having one of his best days thru 10 min left in 3rd. Bears have ball.

Puka Nacua ended regulation with 4 rec, 40 yards, 9 tagets,3 1st downs.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Rams take lead in 4th, Need Bears to tie it up 'n go to Overtime.

Charley Filipek's avatar

TOUCHDOWN BEARS ! ! !

... do they go for the tie 'n Overtime or ... ?

YES, 18 seconds left. Will it turn out to be a Very Long Overtime? Hope so.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Well, at least the Rams were extended 'n had to go to overtime.

I am surprised the FTN made it as far as they did this year but not because of their injury situation. They just are not a very strong team personnel-wise and have been scrapping by with smoke and mirrors.

If anybody has a home address for Williams, send it to me. I will be sure to ship him a case of tissues via expedited first class mail.

Maxx's avatar

Don, send Williams a case of reality as well!

Don Ellis's avatar

You would think he received a healthy dose of that last night. He is probably just shell shocked but I would be happy to oblige, just in case.

This is what happens when arrogance gets their asses handed to them! Like I posted earlier, the whiners need a Waaaambulance!

God I love defense!

May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!

Acho is such a loser. Trent Williams too.

49ers are likely on the downside of the roster as currently constructed:. Key Cap numbers for 26/ & 27: Nick Bosa: $41 mil/ $52 mil; Trent Williams: $38 mil/ $28 mil, but not under contract/ void year in 27; Purdy: $25 mil/$30 mil; Fred Warner: $17 mil/ $30 mil; George Kittle: $16 mil/ $17 mil…The 49ers have 9 Void Years on next years Over The Cap site, meaning paying for people who are not under contract to play. One other key question will be: how well will players who had major injuries play next year: Bosa, Kittle, Warner; Purdy, Williams? It would be unusual for all of them to come back and play as well as in their earlier versions of themselves. Seahawks are perfectly set up with youth, cap space, coaching and front office for continued success….I just hope that Matthew Stafford retires…haha!

Bill H's avatar

Also, 49ers likely to lose Saleh as DC to one of the HC openings, and with their 12 wins this year, will be drafting either 25TH OR 26TH…not a lot of help there either….

I do hope they extend or re-sign K9, but I also hold out for more signings from the class of 2022 (and Jobe). I know I do have a strong leaning to keep players I like around. I know it is the smart move to move away from older players who become too expensive. I’m sure the offer they made to Coby Bryant was less than he feels he can get. I do think they will make him an offer or re-offer their original offer made in preseason. I think they will make an offer to Woolen. It may be below the amount he could get in the free agent market, and he is free to go if he’d prefer a bigger pile of money no one could possibly spend in their lifetime, but we do have players like E. Jones and J Love and others who are leaving money on the table to play for the Seahawks. I just think extra money you can never spend shouldn’t be worth more than being on a great team. Is Coby Bryant worth more than Julian Love? Maybe he can get more elsewhere, but I’m fine with him leaving if JS decides to let him go rather than pay him what he is offered elsewhere.

I would Franchise Tag K9 to show we prioritise him.

Dale's avatar

Yes, the players are always gonna chase the best pay they can get. But if was me, I’d be happy to take a team friendly pay (which is still exorbitant) if it meant a SB ring. Hopefully the boys are of the same mindset.

Rozone's avatar

Most chase the $Ms but didn't Brady stay team friendly with his pay? I vaguely recall Lockett doing the same his last season with the Hawks, but I could be wrong.

Bryant's avatar

Brady always took a little less than maximum salary, but he did have the benefit of being married to a super model who earned more than he did.

Dale's avatar

Yeah, that’s right I think. More power to them.

Rozone's avatar

They are rare, for sure.

Danno's avatar

I couldn’t believe how cheap we got E Jones for. If Charbs is going to miss time next year, I think K9 becomes an even higher priority.

Dale's avatar

Hopefully Charbs is just a tweak.

Looking back at yesterday’s game, my favorite part was this…

The Seahawks defense gets into position with four on the line, two deep, and the middle five in position. The Niners offense shifts. A guy goes into motion, locks in, and another guy starts running around. Meanwhile, the Seahawks just stand these, admiring the window dressing. The Niners finally snap the ball, try running it, and get tackled for a loss.

We’ve heard defenses claim that they want to dictate the play to the offenses for years. This defense actually does it.

And with this, the team has reclaimed home field advantage. Recently, we’ve improved, but there were still communication issues on defense. With two weeks to prepare and certainly that the crowd would be deafening, our defense finally figured it out. Don’t over complicate things. Just stick to the plan and straight up win.

Beautiful.

BR's avatar

Can't remember seeing any teams run a defense huddle, like Hawks were doing with EJ calling plays. Mac has elevated the complexity of defense strategy to be on par with offense it seems.

Shaymus McFamous's avatar

AND he has made it more simple, so there are fewer spaces for error and everyone gets set faster.

Brendan Schwartz's avatar

Whiners gonna whine as always. Trent is shaming himself with that garbage

Charlie Gage's avatar

Trent is still shell shocked from the utter humiliation that the Hawks put on the 9ers in front of the entire nation and foreign audiences. Come on down, Rams....you're next up. Go Hawks! SB60 is waiting.
