Seahawks-49ers Thanksgiving Results
(No spoiler in first paragraph) Seahawks-49ers Week 12 final score 11/23/2023
The Seattle Seahawks entered Week 12 without much evidence that they would beat the San Francisco 49ers. We know that the margin of error in the NFL can always be thin, but let’s just say that if the Seahawks and 49ers played 10 times, it would seem as though San Francisco could win at least eight of those based on recent history. The 49ers are ranked 2nd in DVOA, the Seahawks are ranked 16th. The 49ers are top-3 in offense and defense, but the Seahawks aren’t top-15 on either side of the ball. The 49ers played the Seahawks three times last season and won each contest with relative ease.
All signs pointed towards the Niners being able to beat the Seahawks on Thursday.
All signs were right.
The Seahawks lost 31-13 and were out-gained 377 yards to 220, settled for field goal attempts instead of scoring touchdowns (again), missed field goals (again), had massive struggles on third down (again), sucked in the red zone (again), had costly penalties (again), Geno Smith suffered and partially-caused too many ugly sacks (again), and Seattle looked completely out-matched by a great team (again).
Now 6-5 with two straight losses within the division, the Seahawks are now 6-5 and would need to pull off at least one significant upset in the next three games (Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles) just to avoid being 6-8 as they go into the final three contests.
I have nothing else to add tonight. It’s the end of a holiday and maybe that’s enough negativity for the night until we can process Seattle’s future starting tomorrow. So I’d rather just make sure I open up the floor to any fans who want to add their thoughts.
But I’ll say this: Nothing about Thursday’s game was surprising. Unfortunately, we’ve seen this act before.
That catch by JSN though!
Surely now it’s time to see what Lock can do. Even if it fails, does it matter?
