7 is the pivot number that decides the fate of a receiver on the Seattle Seahawks at final cuts. And when I say “fate”, I mean that could be the difference of making $840,000 for four months of work or getting nothing.
The question for these rookies and the receivers who are still trying to prove themselves in years two, three, or four is this:
“Can one of us beat Steven Sims for the returner job?”
If the answer is no then the 28-year-old Sims, who hasn’t caught a pass in two years and has no shot of competing for a role on the Seahawks offense, could pickpocket a roster spot at the receiver position because Seattle couldn’t find an adequate solution among their younger prospects.
Will the Seahawks keep 7 receivers? Will Sims rise the top of the 7 receivers who don’t appear locked into the top-5 depth chart? Who has the best chance of beating out Sims for the returner positions?
If you’re still living in the Sims-ulation it’s time to unplug: The mysterious player who could glitch up your matrix for the Seahawks 53-man roster is none other than the veteran receiver who doesn’t receive. All Dareke Young fans listen up:
