If the Seahawks cutting 37 players at the end of training camp seems daunting and painful, it is perhaps only because we overestimate our ability to care about and remember 53 names.
It is simply improbable that any of us can name all 90 players on the roster right now and a little more than one-third of them have to go. In fact, the true number of players to be released, waived, or traded is actually higher than 37: Seattle annually adds new players right after final cuts (either trades or claims) and we should expect that to happen again in 2025.

So in doing any “53-man roster projection” exercise, I don’t start with the players that the Seahawks are likely to keep…It is more logical to start with the ones who they obviously won’t keep.
Since that is how I start, then that is how this Seaside Joe bonus article (53-man roster projection) will start too: These are the 37 names I would be least-surprised to be released between now and the cut deadline on August 26th.
