200 Seahawks Fans Predicted the Team’s 53-Man Roster

A consensus roster based on hundreds of fan submissions reveals the Seahawks’ safest bets, biggest bubble battles, and most surprising cuts.

Welcome to the dawn of a new era of 53-man roster predictions. One person creating a 53-man roster projection is dead. Hundreds of fans doing it together to form one super-mega consensus roster is the new gold standard.

Sorry to all the writers who have been making 53-man rosters on their own and thinking that’s good enough because we’ve just set off a nuclear bomb in the middle of every Seahawks 53-man roster prediction that’s ever been made by doing it just like Mike Macdonald does things:

As a team.

First, we ranked all 91 players on the Seahawks and saw what those results implied about Seattle’s roster.

Next, we made our own 53-man Seahawks rosters and the turnout was even greater.

There you have it. That’s what a 53-man Seahawks roster looks like when you aggregate that many fan submissions, and I have to say…it looks awesome to me. Everybody’s going to have a different opinion about what the biggest “flaw” is with this 53-man roster (and we’ll get into it) but that’s also why we did this exercise.

How the Bubble Worked

If there had been any egregious numbers at a position, I would have been compelled to ignore someone’s percentage and replace him with someone who is currently on the outside looking in to fix it. I didn’t see that however, so I felt it safe to simply keep the players with the most votes.

One Missing Piece: Gunner

The one glaring missing piece for me would be “Who is the gunner on special teams?” which probably points to Irv Charles and Emmanuel Henderson, neither of whom was at the top of the “just missed” list.

Special teams is the area that everybody else ignores, but as I wrote last month when I tried to project the coverage units, we won’t do that at Seaside Joe. That being said, special teams still looks great on this 53-man roster and we don’t know yet who might stand out as a gunner in training camp.

Last Man In: Patrick O’Connell

It works out perfectly that not only is O’Connell the player who barely made the cut, but he also fills a role as a fourth linebacker and a key special teamer. The difference between O’Connell, Amari Kight, Mason Richman, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Connor O’Toole was miniscule, but they all made it in. The next four players right below them were off by only a few rosters.

That’s how close this consensus ended up being for the top-60ish players on the roster.

Other Changes, Top Bubble Players

This 91-man roster is highly competitive and the players who just miss the cut could be sought after by Seattle’s rivals in the NFC West. O’Connell beat these top bubble players out by a few votes, and then we’ll talk about the players who were on over 20% of rosters, then on 1-19% of rosters, and then the six who didn’t make it on any rosters.
