Will Seahawks put Tory Horton on IR before season?

The Seattle Seahawks have already lost several key players for the season, including Jake Bobo, Robbie Ouzts, and Bud Clark. There is speculation that the Seahawks could place Clark on IR with a designation with to return later in the season in the hopes that the rookie could be healed by the end of the year.

Seattle can place up to two players on IR with a designation to return before final cuts (which are due on Sunday), meaning that they will not count against the initial 53-man roster limit and they will have to miss at least the first four games of the season.

This makes Tory Horton an obvious candidate for IR.

Horton’s mysterious injury that will “keep him out awhile” according to Mike Macdonald, sounds serious enough to stop him from playing in Week 1, but not bad enough for the team to simply admit that he’s done for the year. Why not put Horton on IR?

Since Bobo is out for the year, placing Horton on IR in the hopes that he will return after four games would help the Seahawks be able to keep another receiver—perhaps new fan favorite Montorie Foster—while they figure out the roster between Friday’s preseason finale and September 9’s opener against the Patriots.

Another option would be third-round cornerback Julian Neal, who has been held out without any real news on his situation and timeline either.

Seahawks fans clearly have more interest in the players on the team who will get cut than most other teams. To have seven players cut who are on at least 20% of your rosters?

That’s unique. Most teams have maybe one or two difficult decisions. Seattle has over a half-dozen. Maybe twice as many as that.

It also means that there are going to be a lot of broken hearts when the Seahawks make their final cuts on Sunday. It could lend to the idea that Horton and Neal end up on IR/designated to return, which would also mean that Clark would be out for the entire season.
