“Schneider said Charbonnet, who tore his ACL during the playoffs, was not a candidate to start the season on the active roster. By starting the season on the physically unable to perform list, he will miss at least four regular-season games, but he will be eligible to practice after Week 2.”
“Schneider said Charles, whom Seattle acquired from the New York Jets over the offseason, is a “dominant gunner” on the punt team. Currently sidelined by injury, Charles will be eligible to come off injured reserve as early as Week 5. “He came in today and we talked. I forgot how big he was,” Schneider said. “He’s running 22 mph. He’s just a monster special teams player. So, it’s definitely worth the wait.”
Guess that is the answer for gunner. Partially good news. They saw enough apparently.
Will say somewhat positive about Horton. I really thought he start on IR like Charbo based on what we’ve seen. If Horton can play. Opens up some field space like with Arroyo.

I don't understand how the roster can include 5 guards and 6 defensive linemen, but only 8 defensive backs. There's got to be another roster move coming.
Two things, aside from the hits/misses of my predictions...
1.) Only 1 fullback implies that we plan to start out with a strong running game and have a secondary plan for what to do if Brady Russell goes down?
2.) After 6 weeks of practice and preseason, we make a last-second trade for a UDFA because someone else would have been ahead of us to snap up Avery Smith after he got waived. So that implies to me that Smith was not on our radar as a UDFA (or Schneider would have presumably enticed him here in the first place), so must have come to our attention during camp. At the very least, this implies that we are keeping our eyes open around the league at other team rosters to see who becomes available, at least in places we feel shaky. It also implies that we've had an eye on Smith during the preseason and already graded him AHEAD of the guys we had in camp, possibly after already talking to Kubiak about him. I am really curious about that process of coaching CBs Dansby, Fuller, and Washington; not being satisfied with them, and picking up someone else using up a draft pick.
When did they know, and when did they decide? I have to think that they had agreed to the deal maybe a week earlier, but decided to wait until today to keep camp body continuity.
Looks like the Digg deal got his career back on track? Seems he was stuck in limbo at 26-7 years old. Maybe he gets snapped up, but more likely he's one of us now, as our CB signings are quite thin. And as a Vet, he can refuse any contracts made for him.
Aside from Smith, no big surprises here other than maybe Neal, who could have been IR with a designation to return. Is that something to keep for future use?
The lack of DB depth is concerning. Okada has more than earned the chance to start in place of Bryant, but there’s not much in the way of options if his lesser range gets exposed. At CB, I don’t see how they credibly play man coverage in nickel, at least against good QBs.
On the up side, I think that the offense will be better even without Walker. Having the entire starting OL return is something unknown in the Schneider era, and every one of them could be better this year. Darnold has reportedly had a terrific camp and he has no shortage of targets. These guys will score points.
Struck me that K9 was not happy sharing touches. People can read this in you and it affects the whole health of the group of RBs... I never saw a genuine smile or laugh. I didn't buy the sales job that he is just a somber guy. So yes, I agree we are better for him leaving.
And I guess he's injured or struggling with injury already in KC. Which is why he was sharing touches, no one doubted he was our best back. Prob why Schneider knew he couldn't bet big dollars on him.

Teams can't make truly big men so when they come available, it is a very high likelihood (certainty) they will get snapped up off waivers. Diggs has over 3 years as a 53 player, so he gets to pass on anything he doesn't like. Haynes strikes me as one of Benton's development guys and we can't risk losing all the time and effort put up to get him this far.
We only lose a guy if he goes elsewhere, so this is an attempt to keep everybody. Diggs has probably agreed to refuse any offers made to him and stick it out with us, since his career was going nowhere.
I think if they still had Richmond, they’d only have kept 9 OL due to his versatility. But without him they needed 10, so kept two OL they wouldn’t have kept if Richmond was healthy. Haynes and Olu likely could have been traded
Apparently centers are a hot commodity league-wide right now. I was kind of anticipating an Olu trade if the return was good. But that would leave only Maranges, so that may be too thin…. Haynes just looks consistently terrible.
Only 3 safeties stands out to me. Emmanwori must be close. Bell has likely agreed to sign with the Seahawks practice squad and will move up week 1. I’m shocked about the trade. No one stepped up to take a CB job. A UDFA on the 53 after all. Diggs to the practice squad along with Igbinoghene? What about Dansby and Fuller. Will they keep 4 CBs on the practice squad?
Yes this is the biggest surprise to me too. I'm wondering if they're able to count on D'Anthony Bell for the PS, since he's not going on the waiver wire. Would allow them to not play Emmanwori Week 1 but not have to lose him for the entire first 4 wks of an IR designation.
I think JS talks to his players and tells them what he would like to do. I think they are high on D Bell, but are playing games to avoid losing someone to waiver claim. Vested Vets being cut is an easy way around it if they want to be on the team and I think Bell does want to be on the Seahawks. Getting him a ring was a way to show a player how much they mean to the team and get good will in return.

It was increased temporarily during COVID, and made permanent in 2022.
