It's the Seahawks' pick in the 2023 draft. We had a terrible 2022 because both Smith and Lock were lost for the season due to injuries in the Denver game. Houston, with the first pick in the draft, has chosen Bryce Young.
Do you take:
1. Will Andersen,
2. Jalen Carter,
3. Someone else,
4. trade Detroit the #2 pick for their #7 and #32 picks.
A dominating lineman that can bring pressure up the middle is the second most valuable commodity in the NFL because it's so rare. My answer is Jalen Carter. Sorry Poona.
If people like Poona and Jackson are genuinely expendable, that means great things about the talent level of the team. Same thing about the much-hyped Noah Fant only being good enough for TE2.
I'm also sort of hoping Swain gets cut: that would mean our WR room is super deep because last year's WR3 can't even make the team.
Oh and I'm also keeping an eye on Tre Brown. Seemed like he was a relative stud last year when he played. If he gets healthy and can't win a starting gig (or maybe even a first backup gig), that means really good things about the people in front of him. We already showed our starting slot CB from last year the door for not measuring up. If the apparent solution at LCB last year becomes an afterthought this year, it's safe to say our CB talent level has increased quite a bit.
It's definitely hard to get jazzed about tomorrow's game but thanks for helping us find reasons for interest. I agree that Ford, Jackson and Meyer could all be on the bubble because their contracts are richer than what makes sense for this team at this time. Was hoping we'd draft Cade York but the Browns took him off the board in round 4. I understand he's doing well so far.
I'm hoping we hear more about Walker's injury soon. Fingers crossed that his recovery will be fast and complete.
Probably better to have not drafted Cade York over who the Seahawks picked, often is the case that the best kickers go undrafted and the drafted kickers end up disappointing. We'll see how this year shakes out.
If Lock actually has a bad case of Covid it will make the Jimmy G cut when it happens a LOT more interesting. Say Lock is on the shelf for a couple of weeks--you don't really want to be left with Eason backing up Geno do you?
Sheez, How depressing, It isn't even regular season yet, and we already lost our top draft RB Walker for a good portion of the season. I'm sure Pete is happy he has a stable of good running backs this year !! Well lets see how many of them can make it to December ?
I was going by my own experience from a lifetime ago, when I got a hernia in my 20s, when it was crude. I forgot they have Arthroscopy surgery today, not a big mess, and recover is quicker.
Poona is great, he's loved by his teammates, and it's a feel-good story of UDFA made starter . He's a fan favorite and this brings money to the team.
I'm afraid he's not capable of a NT role in a 3-4, and may not fit in a big end role. Mone and Adams are both made in the mold of Woods, so the scales pend their way. I hope we get a trade partner for Ford, he can wreak havoc on a 4-3 defense.
Bellore is another fan favorite, and I'm pretty sure he'll be released (even if it's temporarily to get people onto the IR without making them lose the entire season, Dee and KW3 (or K9) seem candidates for that). He's not going to be claimed by anyone and will join the practice squad. Maybe he even retires so he can join Izzo as an assistant ST coach next year.
Jackson gives us no cap relief, unless he's traded (and even in that case, it's very little). We have a lot of depth on the right side but almost none on the left (though Haynes didn't fare bad there). A player for player with a reserve left guard just for dumping his salary elsewhere? But probably he's kept as the only really experienced player on our line.
Myers is staying, I don't see other way. He missed quite a few kicks last year, but was amazing on kickoffs (lots of behind-the-20 opponent field position), and there's no reasonably good kicker available right now.
Other player that may be less safe than one thinks is Swain, especially if someone else shines on punt returns.
The Lockless Monster (a.k.a. Thursday night Seahawks offense) isn't likely to be much fun to watch, and I worry that it will take away from the WR competition. It should be interesting to see if the OL and RBs can create some space and reinforce the good stuff we saw last weekend.
I'm starting to feel more warm and fuzzy about the largest players on the team on both sides of the line. Your observations on Poona make too much sense. Another contract for him would likely be one that overvalues his future contributions, which isn't typically a good idea for a young not-rebuilding team. We have some decent low-key trade opportunities from our D-line and Gabe Jackson that I hope we can take advantage of. But dammit, I don't want Poona to play for anyone else!
Maybe I'm wrong about Poona, but yeah that just seems like the way it is headed. The team could have brought down his cap figure with an extension and there's no reason to not do it unless the Seahawks just don't have him as a high priority in 2023. Unless Poona refused because he wants to be a FA, in which case again, the team might look to move him.
I kinda think you are right. Pete wants to get more interior pressure than Poona has been able to provide and there are some great candidates coming in the 23 draft (that you profiled) so it might make too much sense to trade Poona now. There will be a team that wants him for sure.
I have refrained on commenting about Noah Fant mostly because I haven't seen him play for us. Also not wanting to be a Debbie Downer. Ken opened the door so, Fant not getting his second foot down was mind boggling for me. I was an athlete and as always my mind flashed to what could have made that happen, answer ??? He is a professional catcher of the football, rule 1 catch the ball ✅️ rule two get both feet in. You should innately know where you are on the field. I am not going to jump to any conclusions but I bet Fant heard about that in the meetings and film room.
Ford is a dilemma, the Seahawks rightfully paid the man, but I bet they thought they would see many more pressures on the QB. Ford needs to play like his hair is on fire because Adams did look good. I don't expect Seattle to part with him for anything less than a 3rd rounder.
Finally I have not seen Meyer's in practice. I kicked goals in rugby for 23 years. I have not lost confidence in him he has the stroke and timing, but he better take advantage of his up coming opportunities. Pete wants Meyers he also wants a sense that Jason will be reliable. If any season every point counts its this one, and that's why I 🤔 think he makes it ???
Lastly Jefferson is being saved as he is an above average journeyman !
I think Fant is unhappy with the trade, and is purposefully playing sloppy. He didn't even smirk when he mentioned that he was caught by surprise when the trade happened, and liking that tweet may also be a sign.
Let's not forget that Al Woods is 6 years older than QJeff but he is always drawing rave reviews in practice. That's what I mean when I say we've heard literally nothing about Jefferson.
You are spot on about the others. Meyers' first kick was extremely ugly on Saturday though.
Al Woods is country strong, an amazing athlete. I will follow you on Jefferson and look forward to seeing him in action. Shelby Harris is a great player I haven't heard much about. Maybe their position makes it hard to shine in practice. Yes Myeres first kick was a tentative pull. I can see him thinking OK just ease this through and at the last second, oh I better get it there and pouring on some gas. Like golf that will make you pull it. I found for myself kicking it at 90% all the time was best
Vi Jones sacks Justin Fields three times, Woolen and Bryant each have an interception, and Bo Melton has six receptions for 188 yards. That could be fun.

“ tuning into ESPN (or Fox, if you’re in Seattle)”.
It was my impression that you had to be an Amazon primer to tune in.
Thank You !
Now we’ll see how much of it I can “stomach” to watch.
That's how I read it on an article, but it could be wrong
It’s true
It’s true! Have it scheduled on my DVR
ThanksAgain I THINK. depends on how pukey it’s gonna be.

So true. We did well with Dickson but there are no guarantees. So far, however, I hear that York looks great.
If Lock actually has a bad case of Covid it will make the Jimmy G cut when it happens a LOT more interesting. Say Lock is on the shelf for a couple of weeks--you don't really want to be left with Eason backing up Geno do you?
Camp body vs own body..nice one

It's early to say that Walker is lost for a good portion of the season. He could be active by Week 1.
I was going by my own experience from a lifetime ago, when I got a hernia in my 20s, when it was crude. I forgot they have Arthroscopy surgery today, not a big mess, and recover is quicker.
Pete Carroll confirming just now that Walker could play Week 1. I also had a hernia playing football in high school.

Forgot about kick offs.

Forgot to mention, I would far rather our offense including who ever is our QB than Chicago's.
I have refrained on commenting about Noah Fant mostly because I haven't seen him play for us. Also not wanting to be a Debbie Downer. Huh, that is an interesting theory about why he liked that tweet!
It would be in no NFL player's benefit to deliberately play sloppy.
I agree with you, but as long as he plays good enough to not be considered a total bust, he may try to gamble his way into another team.
Let's not forget that Al Woods is 6 years older than QJeff but he is always drawing rave reviews in practice. That's what I mean when I say we've heard literally nothing about Jefferson.

I hope we will find out Harris was a steal. PFF ranks him as the 18th best tackle which is pretty good. The downside is he's 31 years old.
Vi Jones sacks Justin Fields three times, Woolen and Bryant each have an interception, and Bo Melton has six receptions for 188 yards. That could be fun.
