The Seahawks have an identity, it’s just not flattering: Unruly. Childish. And wild. It was as if they wanted to honor an inactive DK Metcalf by dressing up as his “negatives” for Halloween.
Seattle’s carelessness was apparent in all three phases — and all four quarters — of their 31-10 loss to the Bills, from a flag for taunting on the quarterback, to the fight between Derick Hall and Jarran Reed that carried on from the field to the sidelines, to Dee Williams muffing their final opportunity on a punt return, the Seahawks played as 48 self-interested individuals.
When a team’s identity is a lack of discipline and cohesiveness by the players, that’s an even more damning statement about the coaches.
The stats that hurt:
3 fumbles
1 interception
1-of-7 on third down, 0-of-1 on fourth down
1 drive that started at the 7 that netted Seattle zero points
Out-gained 445 to 233 (at home)
17 carries for 32 yards (1.9 YPC)
1 high snap by Connor Williams
1 trip caused by footsie between Williams and Geno Smith
11 penalties for 82 yards
1 roughing the passer penalty by Hall that helped Bills score TD
2 fights between Hall and Reed
1 tripping penalty by Jerrick Reed on a punt return
More missed tackles than I could count
If this list is incomplete, and I know that it is, add to it in the comments:
By the time the Seahawks were GIFTED a 70-yard touchdown drive by Buffalo’s soft coverage as they held a 28-point lead, the Bills had already opened with a 90-yard touchdown drive, a 93-yard touchdown drive to end the first half, and a 73-yard touchdown drive to open the fourth quarter. Michael Macdonald’s defense, you say?
In comparison, Seattle opened with a 1-yard drive, a 2-yard drive, a 71-yard drive that ended in a field goal despite getting as far as the Buffalo 3, and a 0-yard drive that started at the Bills 7 thanks to Josh Jobe’s interception: 4 drives, 3 drives that gained 3 total yards, and 3 points.
The Seahawks are 4-4 and this week’s leader of the NFC West is going to be the Arizona Cardinals. Next week’s leader? If Seattle doesn’t figure out how to make “Seattle” a feared place for road teams again, then they could lose to the Rams in Week 9 and end up back in the basement because this division isn’t that much different than the Seahawks…
Unpredictable. Untamed. And un-other week of asking “Who’s gonna make the most critical mistakes this time?”
Hot - P Michael Dickson
Because the Seahawks punted four times for an average of 61.3 yards and also because Dale asked for it to be Dickson in the live game chat. Who am I to deny a Seaside Joe subscriber his request when there are few other good options? Join us for the Seahawks-Rams live chat next week:
Medium - CB Josh Jobe
Jobe had an interception, a pass breakup, and seven tackles. I’m sure some of the tackles were on allowed receptions and Jobe wasn’t perfect, which is why he’s “Medium”.
Mild - C Connor Williams
It’s tough being a center or guard because there’s almost no chance that you’ll ever be acknowledged for a good game. That being said, it’s impossible to ignore a really bad game.
Got any Seahawks scoops?

“Mild” seems like a category that is too kind for that travesty of a game. I was not expecting the collapse of the run D AGAIN.. so many missed tackles. Murphy was drawing doubles and triples and still the LBs could not get their fits right and make the gd tackle!
And Geno… the high snap was not on him but the trip most definitely was as Brady pointed out on the broadcast. Geno was indecisive and we saw basically a “bad Geno” game following the “good Geno” game vs Atlanta. Overall.. just so meh. I am expecting the Seahawks to fall to LA next week and if they do, I hope the Seahawks use the bye to prep Howell and see if they have anything there.
What an awful game!
Well THAT was painful and embarrassing to watch. I’m sick and tired of hearing how the team is going to run the ball…that’s who they want to be. Bullshit. Grubb brought his passing offense from UW. He apparently forgot to bring the run game.
This team is wasting Kenneth Walker in his prime. By the time a running offense is implemented, Walker will be eligible for Social Security.
The entire team looked off. And I’m ready to assign some blame to the coaching staff. The team looked unprepared in all phases.
