It was a wild game, those first two drives from Geno were great and the defense came alive in the second half but they also got virtually all the lucky breaks in that game (and capitalized on them!) but the crowd may be the true MVP of the night. Haven't heard it that loud in many years, like a playoff game in prime LOB era. Russ thought he was going to get the hero's welcome that Pats fans gave Brady, but he instead he got the full A-Rod treatment all night long. It clearly rattled him and he was not prepared for dealing with the noise either, which was incredibly ironic.
I hope they can capitalize on Trey Lance next Sunday but it's going to be a polar opposite environment against a much better defense.
The O line , with 2 rookies , played well. The tackling was really bad. I counted at least 15 missed tackles. The D still needs an outside LB that can defend the pass. I hope Pete still has JK Wrights phone #.
The young secondary will get better with experience.
Gino was good. No turnovers. Penney would have gone over 100 yards minus the holding penalties.
The Hawks player of the game award goes to Broncos HC Hackett! Let's see if got this right. You give up 2 1sts , 2 2nds , 3 starters and 50 million for a hall of fame QB and you go for a 64 yard field goal on a 4th and 5 and you have 3 time outs remaining?
Worst call I've seen in years. I don't see a long career for Mr. Hackett with a shit storm awaiting him in Denver.
Gotta love pulling out the win! The offense reminded me a lot of the first game last year against Indy; highly scripted, well designed, everything was complimentary. The second half we couldn't move the ball, and that is concerning. Good game by Geno, that was a mighty impressive TJax impression! I still need to see a lot more out of him before I have any confidence in him though, to my eyes he did not go through much of a progression. Seemed like he stared down his receivers and threw to the first option or the checkdown on every pass. Hopefully Waldron builds on our first half and has another well scripted game plan for the 9ers.
KOMO4 Postgame Show was really good. They had a collage of clips showing the evolution of Russell during his time in Seattle. The way Pete was so cool toward Russell might mean the final rumor shared in the film was true. They said Russell gave the front office the ultimatum of "it's Pete or me" and they chose Pete.
I then went to the Mile High Club comment section and 98% of the comments blamed the coach while making a variety of excuses for Wilson. The buyer's remorse was confined to only a few Broncos fans.
Well THAT was a lot of fun to watch! The rookies had a few rookie moments but overall, they acquitted themselves fairly well. I love that our CBs have some pop in them in run support, and our tackles did well.
Geno played exactly like Carroll said he would. Not sure if it was Geno playing up to Carroll’s expectations or if Geno’s just a bit better than we thought. It really doesn’t matter why, just that he did and it shows he can going forward.
I think this season will be a lot of fun because it’s like we’re playing with house money. I have no expectations, but relatively high hopes. Yeah, I’m an optimist.
A certain collegiate You-Tuber -- who vocally supported Geno over Lock -- dropped a magnificent "Russ-speak" impersonation in his post-game "told you so" : "Well I'll be John Brown, they're actually playing good football without me. Wow, my passive-aggressive behavior those last few years is really working against me right now. Son of a biscuit". The truth shall set you free, RW3.
This Patera era 'Hawks fan will always respect "The QB formerly known as RW3" for his body of work in the Pacific Northwest, but that truth will also never erase the years of slow-growing annoyance with his increasingly tone-deaf comms and the steady drumbeat of dichotomies reflected in his public persona as the brand outflanked the man over the last few seasons.
Funny thing, poetic justice. During Shelby Harris' post-game interview, his feelings toward the Broncos organization and his trade were visible and audible. When he walked off with "Let's Ride"... perfection.
Just as good was Geno's answer to the query 'what do you say to everyone who wrote you off?' : "I didn't write back". That's the kind of clever smack you always WISH you had said looking back, and he pulled it out of the hat during a national broadcast, wrapping with a jovial "Go Hawks". Nailed it.
Meanwhile, TQBFKARW3 showed the same time management issues at the LoS we witnessed during his tenure in SEA (and always blamed on Carroll), while lowly Geno somehow operated on-time and schedule. Game successfully managed. There's still a LONG road to the playoffs, but it's going to be VERY interesting watching all the new young talent mature ON THE FIELD this season.
Personally, seeing Wilson struggle to overcome "Peteball" as channeled through the new/old look Seahawks was a particularly sweet treat, in light of recent "themes" in less lucid places and spaces. Even better was watching all the national "pundits" squirm hastily away from the slag they threw at Carroll and the 'Hawks the entire off-season.
Minus actual football minds (Brooks, Riddick...), of course, who warned folks not to sleep on the coach, team and culture at VMAC, and what's possible for a talented young club who embrace it (see 2012-14). Never thought I'd be genuinely happy to see RW3 ride off into the sunset, but here we are.
I am very happy to live in the timeline where the Seahawks beat Denver Week 1!! I am calling the season a success as of now.
Stick up has to include Parkinson’s who got his first TD in the NFL last night. And the D collectively… that was a great performance and might signal the start of something special. Those goal line stands were Boomesque.
That was real gritty. I wasn’t a big fan of the conservative playcalling towards the end when my fingernails had gone, but Smith proved why he is the starter - you just kind of know that Lock would try and force the ball in and get picked.
Harsh to pick on Bryant based on one play in his first NFL start, but that one play was so bad he could make the fourth CB on the stock down list. However, that was a really good passing attack and the youngsters will get better.
Gutted for Adams. That guy has the worst luck injury-wise, and I just hope that doesn’t cause fans to push out the same tired stuff about the trade and contract.
Denver has a damn good defence, so plenty of optimism when we go to play the Whiners - two new QBs, but Pete has owned Kyle for years. Go Hawks!
Lumen Field, action green, Monday night and vs Russ! What a perfect time for Geno to play as the best version of Geno. It wasn't pretty toward the end, but it was enough tonight, and he gave credit to a total team victory. I didn't think I would be, but I'm happy it was Geno's turn. His post-game interview made me smiley.
I hope Jamal is alright, and he looked like a difference maker in this scheme, but this could be season-ending. As frustrated as we fans may be with his injury history, or contract, or trade value, it can't come close to his level of frustration right now. Jones and Neal are fine players who can fill in nicely, but they won't transform the defense the way Adams has the potential to.
The CBs made mistakes, but I'm still in a bit of shock that these young guys might actual be this good already. What did Jackson do this offseason?
This is the Geno Smith I was thinking of when I said he would outperform expectations by a lot. I also expected better production out of our running game to help Geno out. My thoughts now are that Pete didn't want to risk an injury to Penny with KW3 still recovering from his own injury. If he is good to go next week, I expect the running game to be featured.
We need Ryan Neal back tomorrow with Adams injured. We had numerous breakdowns on run defense and 52, Taylor, was about half of them. He was still in 4-3 mentality playing 3-4, and he's the left flank. The end of the line. He cannot break.
Me thinks Pete leaned into his 2 rookie tackles being great in college at pass blocking and didn’t feature the run but boy Penny looks ready for the year . Don’t believe w’ll see that pass happy of geno again and Pete needed / wanted to win this one to kick start the young ones buying in . Great and cathartic victory
Week 1 is almost always screwy. I'm expecting very little from tonight to start a trend for the rest of the season. But the team did seem to play inspired and they were scrappy--that does feel different, compared to the last five plus seasons.
After LAR, Cincinnati, Green Bay, San Francisco, and Tennessee were all upset, Atlanta, Detroit, and Jacksonville came so very close to winning I changed my PigSkin Pickum vote to a Seattle win and I'm glad I did. Go 'Hawks!
Of all the posters here, I was among the most skeptical of Seattle's chances. Or at least among those most skeptical. The Hawks proved me wrong and I'm glad. I said that if they won, I'd eat my hat. So, please pass the banana sauce.
Didn't Pete look repleat over the last six months when the field goal went just left. Pete will have them back on track Wednesday and Woolen will learn he just has to turn his head. Woolen is fast enough for sure.

Russ must be pissed off.

Pangloss lives!
Yeah, Seahawks always did get a special boost from goal line stands. But I also get heart palpitations.
That was real gritty. I wasn’t a big fan of the conservative playcalling towards the end when my fingernails had gone, but Smith proved why he is the starter - you just kind of know that Lock would try and force the ball in and get picked.

The second half offensive stats were brutal for Seattle.

No matter what else happens for Geno Smith at least he did get this victory moment.
A doctor posted on Twitter that if this is indeed a serious quad injury, it is as bad as an ACL tear and Adams is out for the year :(
This season, the Seahawks stand alone atop their division, have a perfect record, and have never trailed at any point since the 2022 season started.

When Neal is back, do we finally see a 3 safety look?
We saw a couple yesterday before Adams went down.
No Adams = more Barton
Week 1 is almost always screwy. I'm expecting very little from tonight to start a trend for the rest of the season. But the team did seem to play inspired and they were scrappy--that does feel different, compared to the last five plus seasons.
IIRC, last season had a great week 1 game and never quite made it back to that level of play.
The Texans once started 2-0 and finished 2-14.
After LAR, Cincinnati, Green Bay, San Francisco, and Tennessee were all upset, Atlanta, Detroit, and Jacksonville came so very close to winning I changed my PigSkin Pickum vote to a Seattle win and I'm glad I did. Go 'Hawks!
