Why are the Browns better than the Seahawks?
Seaside Bonus: A side-to-side comparison
Whether or not the Seattle Seahawks avoided Deshaun Watson because of their own standards or because Watson rejected them will probably never be known. But it was ultimately the Cleveland Browns who came up with the $230 million contract and three first round draft picks that ended at least one of the Watson-related sagas for the NFL.
The Browns did not only feel that they had the money, draft capital, and moral compass to acquire Watson, they also felt that the roster was ready to support a franchise quarterback who might be capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl.
It was not until the 11-game suspension was announced that it finally hit me that Jacoby Brissett would be a starting quarterback this season. We all knew that a long suspension was coming. Still, the question of “Who backs Watson up?” kind of fell to the wayside and rightfully so.
Jacoby Brissett or Geno Smith? Maybe their abilities are not so far apart.
